  1. Very good! I keep mine on top of my tool cage. And yes, it takes some energy getting them up there, and taking them down. But it only happens twice a year!
  2. Looks great dude. What paint are you using?
  3. Let me know if you ever need some shop time. Im sure we could work something out.
  4. Everyone loves pitchers... or was is pictures.... After half a gallon of purple power, and a bit of pressure washing, the trans was deemed clean enough to make pretty. New axles seals were installed This is that 4wd shift linkage seal mentioned before. And associated sensors used. 4wd and reverse. Anyone know if these are still available new? The 4wd sensor has some cracked insulators on the wires. Id like to replace it.
  5. I have always been in the understanding that it was I could be wrong...
  6. Dont bother cleaning it. There is bound to be more corrosion inside the cable itself. Find yourself a quality replacement, and make sure all contacts are VERY clean prior to reassembly.
  7. Wrong thread dude And BTW, Ive got a set of 4 EA82 SPFI pistons, pins, and rings in the mail
  8. It is an interference motor, but its a pushrod motor, so assuming it is assembled correctly, there is zero chance of pistons hitting valves.

  10. Same bore, ea82 pistons are slightly taller from wrist pin to the top of the piston. This raises the compression ratio a bit.
  11. You couldnt get me to touch a EA82 with a 10-foot pole I got SOME of my piston rings in today.... I think my hopes of reusing the old pistons is proving a bad idea.... Rockauto shipped me TWO sets... and backordered "indefinately" the other two.... :Flame: Priced out at a bit more than $50 shipped, Im temped to just return them and pick up an EBAY ITM set of EA82 SPFI pistons. I could do them for less than $150 shipped for 4. New pistons, rings, and pins. Comments??
  12. Yes, two plugs for the front of the motor. The rears do not have plugs, and remain open to the backside of the flywheel housing.
  13. There is a traditional pressed in seal there on this 5-speed. The 4-speed is the same
  14. Well, I have the ea81 flywheel. What combo for disc, PP and TOB work with that?
  15. Ive read about a few way of going about a 5-speed swap for an EA81 But Im all confused. Right now I have a ea81, '85+ flywheel, and a 5-speed dual range trans. Ive read I can use the 6-spring type 5-speed disc, but do I use the ea81 pressure plate?? What about throwout bearing? Thanks for any help
  16. If you are not set on any particular 4-lug wheel, go for the 6-lug swap. I would have, if I had not already spent $1200 on two sets of new tires (winter and summer) on 4-lug 13" wheels.
  17. Well, it looks like the piston rings are being slow. More than a week, and they still havnt shipped. So I benched the motor build, and drug out the 5-speed dual range trans I picked up a while back. There was quite the story surrounding this trans. According to the previous owner, he had a Subaru that a shop spent MONTHS chasing down a driveline "noise" It sounds like the typical throw-money-at-the-problem-till-it-goes-away methodology. Long story short, they rebuilt this trans, and the noise was still there. Then they replaced the trans, and the noise was still there it wound up being something silly like a u-joint:drunk: So, according to the previous owner, this trans had been apart and completely rebuilt. There is evidence looking at the bolts and case that it HAS been apart. But naturally, I doubt people. The average joe will spin all kinds of tales to sell something. So I didnt know what to expect when I finally got around to doing something with it. Today was the first day I had touched it since buying it. If I recall correctly, I spent $50 on it. And I was VERY pleasantly surprised when I cracked the transfercase cover off, to find not only fresh clean gear oil, but also what looks like remnants of trans assembly lube. So this trans will get a very good cleaning, fresh axle seals, and away we go....
  18. Your welcome! I figured a few would enjoy all of the photos.
  19. The next step I fought with a bit. I knew I wanted this motor to look good. Despite hours of hand cleaning, and a trip to the machine shop, the case still didnt look as good as I desired. So I painted it. Starting with a metal etching aluminum primer... Flywheel housing was done too. Then finished it with an aluminum colored epoxy based engine enamel So what if it holds a bit of heat.... It sure the hell looks better:drunk: And more parts came in. Brand new oil pump, and reman water pump. The WP pulley was primed and painted as well. Little BRONZE action here
  20. This is Idaho. This car does more than "put around" Most of the speed limits around here are 55. Its right at home. Though it has taken us to Seattle and Portland numerous times without problems. You just cannot be in a hurry. It does the speed limit wherever we go, and gets near 30mpg doing it.
