  1. doesn't the Haynes manual have a good shot of the underside of the car? Someone could scan that in for us to use here on the board. Also a pretty good shot of the stock upper in there too. I don't have a scanner anymore or I would be all over it.
  2. I will be taking up residency at Ft. Jackson while I re-MOS, for the next couple of months. (Till March). I would like to get together with some of you right coasters given the opportunity. I will be Soobless, in pretty much a Soobless environment, so any chance to get together with anyone would be really kewl. Lemme know if your in the area, maybe we can meet up and hang out for a while. Dunno if I'll have any net access there (should have public computers in the library or sumpin), but I should have my SMS service up by then, and can reach me at Adam_NDJ on yahoo.
  3. I like it.... Hehehe. Not from the standpoint of I would own one, but because it's a newer Soob that has tonnes of room for improvment!!! I could seriously have a lot of fun making parts for that thing! As sick as it seems, I can see that thing sitting on a 4 or 6 inch lift with serious mudders under it. Maybe some 31x21.50's!!
  4. A failing alternator can cause this. Also, I would check all your grounds, specially ones under the dash, as well as the one running from the tranny to the spre tire shelf. As for the odometer, the gears inside the speedo that drive it are made of plastic, and are apple cored, only way to fix it is to replace the speedo. Pretty common problem on cars of this vintage.
  5. Hey all. I'm gonna be in the Boise area from the 10th of next month untill Aprilish. Should have a weekend or two off, but no wheels with me. Wanted to see if anyone is in the area! Thanks.
  6. My 3-dr has PDL's. Hmm. I was in the shed the other day, and I think I have a glove box out there with all the PDL stuff in it...
  7. I think this has been brought up before, cause I know I've said what I'm going to say here before, but here it goes: In theory, all MAF's run on the same concept, a little wire is heated to a particular temp, and the air flowing over it cools it, how much voltage being applied to keep it at that first initial voltage (before air started flowing) relates to how much air is going in. So, if the Leg's MAF runs at about the same voltage for the same amount of airflow then yes, it will work. But note the first two words to this paragraph. Your best bet would be to look up the specs for both of the two MAF's and see how they compare, and if they run close enough together then yeah, throw it on there. But keep in mind that if the resistances are different between the two, and the Leg's is lower than the G3's then you run the risk of letting the magic smoke outa your computer. If I find the time, I will look into the two components and see how they compare for ya, but right now, that seems like a stretch for me. Lotsa luck to ya though.
  8. Pretty kewl. I love watchin wheelin videos. Thank for the motivation too, cause I've actually sat down down and rendered a couple of vids from last spring into board sized clips. These are excerpts from my DVD that I'm working on. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/data/500/31spinnin.wmv http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/data/500/31splashin.wmv Whotchyall think?? (ya, thats really a word)
  9. Would have to say this is my favorite to date! This one of course if pretty awsome too:
  10. Ya, I was thinking the same thing this eveing when I was out in my shed looking for a flashlight (to see in the shed, go figure), and tripped over my stack of Gen II plates, might go that route. But I'm feelin lazy lately, might be the holiday season, or the fact that I've been workin my arse off. I'll get Cally on the lift soon and get her fixed up right.
  11. Sounds like fun, revvin it is so awsome, nothing sounds quite like that motor!! Just remember to put the headers on it before hand, this is my advise. These are fire breathing motors!! I did my initial test fire open heads, and the fuel on the ground from the first couple tries without it fire caught fire while it was running, and shooting flames the two feet down to the ground!!!
  12. Ohkay, most (some?) of you know I recently got a 92 Leggy. I know a decent amount about the car, but some stuff is pretty lost on me. I know my older gen cars better than the back of my hand, but not this one. So here's what I'm wondering. Did the early year Legacy's come with skidplates, and if they did are there certain years and models I should look for. I've got a 92 L AWD 5spd, no protection under it, and that big ol' oil pan looks like it owuld make a great target for some evil rock waiting on a trail for me. So is there a stock one that I could possibly find (no luck in my area's wrecking yards), or am I going to just have to make one?? Thanks!
  13. Ya, that diode isn't important. Best way to get it all going, is to hook up the motor, then hook up the computer, then cut out all wires that don't attach to those two. Then look at a schematic, and start peeling out the nonessential wireing (like the ones that go to the electrosteering pump). Neutral safety switch?!! Why? What if you need to crank the starter with the clutch disengaged!! Thats another one of those non important wires. All in all, I think that there are only about 40 sumpin of the 60 sumpin wires that are important. I'll dig through my files tonight and find my schematics and notes from mine and let ya know what ya need, and how to wire it up. One of the biggest things that hung me up was a power wire that looked like a ground wire, that I had attached to ground!!! Least it wasn't the other way around.
  14. So I'm not the only one from this side taking the step up to the new Gen's. Granted yours is a little newer than mine, but mine was only a tenth of the price you payed for yours. On the offraoding side of things. I took the Leggy out in the woods last weekend, did really good, cept the fact that the tires on it are pretty much bald, and there was A LOT of ice up there, so I ditched it a couple of times. No damage though!! Plus I'm really diggin on the whole rear E-brake idea. As far as new Gen lifts go .
  15. I would suggest a stop by Mt. Ashland here in S. Oregon, but I don't know when they are opening this year, I was just up there t'night and they weren't open. But if you want to stop by and say hi.
  16. I'm in Medford, if ya are going to roll through on a weekend or evenish on a weekday then would be cool to meet up with ya.
  17. Any respectable mechanic thats not trying to soak you would got after a head gasket problem after finding HC's in the coolant. Rather than jumping straight to quoting you for an entire head replacement. ALso if he is suppose to be a Subaru Tech then he would know that the 2.5's have a gasket issue. In my opinion, as a mechanic, I would take it to a different shop. One that isn't going to try and take you for all you have, and knows a little more bout what they are working on.
  18. For the motor mounts, the easiest way is to unbolt the big round ones from the 27, then bolt on the ones from the EA81, they will go into the rear holes if I remember correctly, then it will fall right into the holes in the crossmember. Either that, or you can cut new holes for them to go into. From the looks of it you are useing the stock 4spd in there. I wouldn't count on it lasting too long, from my experience those trannies aren't built enough to handle the power output, you will either shred reverse, or your high range syncro. Might want to look into a 5spd in the future. I can say though, that that thing is going to be one little speed demon!! Heck, mine can turn 30" tires and over 3000 pounds at some pretty insane speeds, a stock hatch will be almost scary!!
  19. I just picked up a 92 L for 400 bucks, that including the cost of parts (had to put new headgaskets on it). I do have to say that having worked on this one right off, it is a lot easier to work on than I was thinking they would be, it's ease is comparable to an EA81, a lot easier than an EA82!!! It's a little more computer controlled, but the more advanced electronics are more simplier than the older ones. Hey, there are only two vacume lines!!!
  20. Hey all, I jes joined the ranks of all of you. Brought home my newest addition to the family, a 92 Legacy L Wagon, with all the goodies you could get for it, sans the automatic though. This is definatly something different than all my EA series cars, but the price was right, and now I got a good road trip machine!!! I gotta give props to Legacy777, all the pics on your site helped me get the timeing belts on right after doing the head gasket change on it, which I didn't have right, and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start for like 3 hours, then remembered, duh, check the board, there ARE new gen guys on there. So ya, the pics helped out A LOT!! Although I do wonder, what are the big arrows on the sprockets for? I got the cam marks right, just didn't have the crank one right, the mark on the reluctor wheel was covered in gook. And those arrows had me wondering.
  21. Ya, you and that dern Saturn owner, grrr, sometimes I'm too nice of a guy. Hmm, who's up for some destruction? I'm redoing the walls in my bedroom right now!
  22. Hey everyone, it's been a while since we last had everyone together in one place, so much stuff going on right now, it's understandable. I don't think I've ever seen so many supersecretsecretsquirell projects going down in such a small area at one time. Hehe. But I would like to have a mass meet to just see how everything is going, and maybe get some of the new guys in the area to come and hang out with us. Also, I would like to get the club organized a little more, maybe get those stickers I keep forgetting about done up. So whats the schedules look like for the next couple weekends? And I guess we could let Tony come hang out with us, even with his current, ahem, "situation". Lemme know. PS, Hey Matt, how's it comin??
  23. Not entirely true. You can actually install a T-case conversion into a BYB/PK 4" lifted rig. And most of the T-cased rigs are runnin with 6" lifts. And there is even a mythical beast somewhere in the PNW that has a T-case with NO standard Subaru lift, some say it has a 7" suspension lift in it. I'm sure when we get pics of bigfoot, we'll find that he drives it. N-E-way, 6" is the typical for this install.
  24. you are considering. . ., us, mixing, with, those, ... New Gen, guys. (GASP), are yoU!?? (AAAhhhhh!). Kewl, I'm diggin on these new forums, I will have a place more to my ilke than just the regular "hang out" forum. One question though, will this forum also cover the adaptation of other makes stuff into our cars?? Like Nissan T-cases, toyota axles, delorian seats. . . . ?
  25. woah!!! back up jes a sec. I looked through your gallery, and the Quattro San is pretty kewl and all, but how bout a little more info on the diesel heads that are in the one pic!!! Like how well that went over, and how long before the block spontaniously migrated!
