ea81t in place of ea82T?
Adam N.D.J. replied to ShawnW's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If it's a pre hot wire system, it's all Plug and Pray, uh, I mean Play. I'm actually useing a bunch of the EA82T's stuff on mine, to include the VAM, knock sensor, injectors, and tps. All the same components. Seeing as how Subaru really hates to reinvent stuff once they got it going, I doubt that the computers are even different between the two. The EA81T should swap right into the XT with the only mods that you would have to do is mate the engine to the tranny. That is going with the idea that it is a pre-87. Post 87 would be a littler more interesting, as you would need to mod the EA82 dizzy to fit the EA81 block, not too hard, has been done before. Other than that, the rest should plug into the engine just fine. Go for it dude! -
Because most companies round up to the nearest whole number, our 1.8's are actually like 1781 for the EA-1800's and 1820 for the EJ-1800's. Make's it easier to put 1.8L on the back of a car rather than 1.781L I don't know the actual displacement of other makes 1.8's to put into this as reference though. As far as the actual workings of it, most engines move up by 1 or 2 hundred CC's at a time, 1.6's naturally turned into 1.8's and 1.8's into 2.0's and 2.2's, some makes like VW actually had 1.6 1.7 and 1.8, it's an act of evolution.

Adam N.D.J. replied to lumpycam's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm gonna have to find a way to hide those pictures from the wife, or I won't have any time to work on my own projects for the next month and a half. -
Rogue Valley get together
Adam N.D.J. replied to Alex C's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
This upcoming Friday the streets won't be blocked off, that was for the "Medford Cruise" just this weekend. This is sort of a ritual thing for us now, every Friday and Saturday night, we park at the Hobby shop and heckle all the kids out cruising. You totally missed it Alex, I had the Brat out there, plus my buddies WRX, Matt's RX, Mikes Wagon, and then the dude with the red hatch showed up!! Shore coulda used a couple more Roo's out there, 5 just wasn't enough!! So remember, this Friday at Al's, round 9ish. I'm usually fashionably late though, and show up round 10, so I dunno what the actual time the other guys get there is. Tony? Sean? Ken? Ken's friend?(sorry) -

Those with mechanical boost gauges
Adam N.D.J. replied to The Scooby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Is it just boost or boost and vacume? If it's just boost, then pretty much anywhere, like your waste gate line. But if it's a Vac/boost guage, then your going to want it hooked to the manifold UNDER the throttle plate. A good place is one of the ports on the intake runners themselves. Sorry, don't have any pics of mine, but sure someone else does. Lotsa luck. -
Need help, XT-6 owners!!
Adam N.D.J. replied to Adam N.D.J.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, this bites, got a pic from the Xt board, but didn't do any good. When I was looking at my harness, I found like 5 wires that didn't have ends on them, they were cut about 3 inches from where they poked outa the loom!!! 4 are black!!!! and I think that the 02 wire is black! Don't have any of my schematics here, but will double check tmarrow, so looks like I'm in for some fun!! Oh well, I have a foolproof plan that will work if I can't figure it out from the schematic! -
brat rear/window help!
Adam N.D.J. replied to beachbum's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
As far as the tinting goes, since it's already out. Go down to your parts store and get a can of aircraft remover, spray down the windows, and let them sit for about 20-30 minutes, then wash with water, the tint will come off when you rinse it. Just make sure that you don't get that stuff on your skin, pick up some hazmat gloves if you can, it'll eat right through latex gloves! -

Funny, weren't we talkin bout ordering pizza last weekend? Sounds good to me, I'll be there, with the pimp chair!! -
Hey all, I'm haveing alittle trouble with me Brat, I've finally gotten down to putting in an O2 sensor, but don't know where to wire it. All my scematics show different colored wires than the ones I have available, and I'm not ripping into the harness to find it from the computer. I think that my harness is from an 89 or 90. But if you could take a picture of the PLUG that the O2 plugs into, preferable the harness side of it, but if you don't want to pull it apart thats fine, I can work off what I can see. Greatly appreciated!!!

Help, I can't Open My Hood
Adam N.D.J. replied to ekimyerac's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hope you don't have A/c, lay on your back under the front, reach behind the bumper to where the latch is, and release the hood. Sometimes take a couple tries depending on how hard the latch is to activate. -
When I bought my 82 Brat it had a Carter/Weber on it. Whot exactly are you asking?

The Backyard Boys at play - BIG Air
Adam N.D.J. replied to byb555's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
No doubt, I've seen some of the video's of the air they get down there, and it's sick!!! I'm really surprised they don't break more things than they do when they do that. Heck, I got my Brat only bout a foot and half in the air and collapsed the insert on one of my struts and bent a radius rod! -

I need some body advice
Adam N.D.J. replied to 1979_GL_MINT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Uh, nope, not gonna be able to lower it like that, there isn't a shackle anywhere on a Subaru. You'll have to change out the front struts, or at least the springs in the struts to get it down. Talk to Substyles, I know he's lowered his rig, and I think there are a couple of other people that have. Tape measure, just measure each side, adjust, remeasure, and so on untill it's good and centered. Not really sure whot else there is to do. Yes, pics are good!! -
Changing Clutch in the turbo coupe
Adam N.D.J. replied to The Scooby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Just soak the turbo nuts down with some PB about an hour before you go to work on it. I've taken apart quite a few turbo cars, and still have all the studs intact. A couple of them the stud unscrewed rather than the nut, but still didn't break, just take your time. One thing that helps a little I've found is to start out with trying to tighten it first, just a little bit, then once you get a degree or two of turn into it, then go for loosening, and while loosening, retighten it a little everyone one and a while. Lotsa luck. -
er27 possibilities??
Adam N.D.J. replied to offroadsubaruguy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That was most likely an XT turbo with 7.7:1, as the turbo motors are the only ones with that low of compression, even the old EA81's had a little over 8:1. I'm almost definate that all the MPFI(non-turbo) engines had at least 9:1 compression, but I think that the SPFI and er27 had 9.5:1. -
Coping with a Subaru Addict
Adam N.D.J. replied to mcbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My wife has finally come to the realization that there isn't anything she can do, cept join me. Her first car, I bought for her was a 1980 Brat, then her second one I bought is an 89 3-door. So she couldn't help but learn a little bit to like em. But now she's definatly getting "the sickness". It's actually really kewl, we were driving home down the freeway, and I'm like "did you see it, down there, behind the barn by the blue car" and she'll be like "you mean the black XT-6?" Whats most interesting was we actually found the road the car was on, and from where the car was, we couldn't really see the freeway, which is where we saw it from! -So ya, word of advice for all you young guys, when you go out looking for that life partner, here are some tips. Go decently young, more time to train em. -Find a girl that doesn't have her liscence yet, that way you can buy her her first car, the first car is always the most impressionable, women always remember the first. -Don't overwhelm them too fast, mentioning that you have 2 acres of parts and cars on the first date doesn't always work to impress them. -Contrary to popular belief, a trip to the U-pull-it does classify as a date. -

Ohkay, so how's this sounds, hookin up at my place on Saturday. Dunno whot times work best for ya'll, but it does stay light pretty late nowadays. I'm definatly going to be working on my rig, but if the thought comes up to go out and play around a little bit, I think I'd be pretty down for it. Bugaru, if you look in the misc album of my gallery, there is a little map of how to get to my place, it's real easy from the S. Medford exit. -
er27 possibilities??
Adam N.D.J. replied to offroadsubaruguy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The ER is already at the top of the compression line as far as the EA motors are concerned. If you go any higher your talking 10:1 plus, and it does turn into an interference good for power, bad if a T-belt goes. If you really want to raise the compression, without a whole lotta work, then 5psi will do that for ya, and an IHI RHB5 will more than put out enough, least with the stock compression ratio.. . . . these are things I've thought of many times already. -
POLL: Where do you shift
Adam N.D.J. replied to subiemech85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
With the 2.7 and 5spd, I shift around 2.8-3K nice driving, kickin someones butt I'll take it up to 4.5K (I've had it up to 6 before, lets just say that 65mph in second gear is kinda iffy!) Now the 1.8 and 4spd was another story, round town 4-5K, rompin on it 7-9K. Although I usually romped on it more often than not. Was the most awsome 4 cylinder I can think of. Unfortunatly it's stuck behind a 3AT in the 83 now
