If your still going with the 19th idea, then my place is good, as I just have drill this weekend. -
5 speed conversion to ea81. clutch cable???
Adam N.D.J. replied to mcbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm using the Brats stock clutch cable for my 5spd, works just fine. How short are you talking? Like a fraction of an inch, or inches? Cause my motor and tranny sit back about 1.125 inches from stock, but I also have like another 3 inches of slack in the cable too. Don't see how it would be too short either, cause the fork actually sit further to the right on the 5spd than the 4spd. Hmm, thought for a minute, after re-reading yours and my post, thought you might be talking about the actual cable, and not the casing, warranting an engagment problem. Again, I have no problems, I actually have my adjuster a little below center, and it pulls just fine. And I don't think my pressure plate is any different from an EA82's. Maybe there is something wrong with the fork, or the mount. -
How many people have/had DL-5's
Adam N.D.J. replied to Adam N.D.J.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
not sure really, the car it's self is an 80 hatch, with a 5spd 2wd tranny, and an EA71. Didn't look like there was anything really special about it. From what I see the -5 might mean 5spd, but there were GL-5's also, so I dunno. -
I'm jes wondering whot the numbers on these were? I've seen a good number of GL-5's, but only 1 DL-5, EVER! If'n they are rare I might try to save this one (if it's saveable), if not, I'll jes let it go. Thanks..

Rogue Valley get together
Adam N.D.J. replied to Alex C's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
(Shakes head at the Noobs...J/k). We usually get together at least twice a month, this have been a little hectic lately, so we really haven't been able to ALL get together at one time. This weekend is no good for me, got to do the ARMY thing all weekend long. But after that I'm good, although I won't be able to go anywhere, I'm pretty swamped with the latest project. But then again, if I get bored or frustrated it would be good to get out somewhere, would be kewl to take the Brat off-roadin, haven't done it in a while. -
ok. I really need help with this...
Adam N.D.J. replied to nutt7's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If it's got a VAM, then it'll only have the one filter in the engine bay, as it's FI. Whot you can do is disconnect the VAM (VAM right, not a MAF? you have the flapper door? Should be, in an 86) But anyways, if you disconnect it, this will put the computer into limp home mode, and you can diagnose the problem. I have a very similiar problem with my 84 Turbo (basically the same system as the 86), I disconnect the VAM for a day, didn't have any problems, replaced it a few days later and never had a problem (like that) again. -
I like the idea of an ER27-B, but thats just for my application. Hmm, a 7MGT-E in a Hatch, I can get my hands on one of those motors fairly easily, then it's just a matter of making the room, wireing it up, and putting in a new rear end to handle the power. Hehehehe

Saw a Brat with an EJ engine
Adam N.D.J. replied to All_talk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
A bit so indeed. I thought about an Ej for my first choice, but the tranny option limited me, if I had the equipment now that I had way back when, then I coulda come up with an adapter plate, but now that I've got the motor in, I'm VERY happy with it. So when can we expect some pics? I've seen lot of pics of the AUS guys' rigs, but non domestic, would be kewl. -
Look at Number 1 in the list in my Sig, and there is my dream car. Living the dream? Of course, every now and then we all get to be Jimmy Buffet.

Oh, Ohkay, that sounds like more fun that my origonal thought of hornet racing. I had a different kind of hornet racing the other day in the Brat, a few of them decided that they wanted to move into my Brat, and in the process of getting them to go away, I would tick them off, then go racing away as they came after me.

R.R.'s whot chya up to this weekend?
Adam N.D.J. replied to Adam N.D.J.'s topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Doesn't really look like a whole lot at this exact moment, but after this weekend most should be able to tell whot it is. ET of completion is still mid-Julyish, but we'll see how quickly stuff goes together. Biggest problem is tracking down the parts and stuff for the build, still have to work out the steering, have a pretty good idea of whot to get the parts off of, but not certain. The stickers, oh ya, kinda spaced out on them, had so many other irons in the fire lately, that I guess it slipped my mind. I'll see whot I can come up with next week, I'll say this for sure, we'll have em before WCSS. -
Welp, I'm gonna be a little busy, but company is good! If everyone has some time stop by and say hi, maybe kick back a MaliDew or two. For those that are in the know, (which is most of ya), IT HAS BEGUN!! I picked up some of the major pieces yesterday and today, and the hard work is going to be started this weekend. Ya'll should see it, it's pretty friggin kewl looking as it is!!!

Test: What's wrong in these pictures.....
Adam N.D.J. replied to mcbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Negatory Ken ol buddy, she's a GL, the 7th digit in the vin is a 3, if it was a 2 it would be a DL, but it ain't. JF2- FHI MPV A - Loyale/XT G - 3-door coupe 5 - 1.8L 4WD W/o AIR Sus 3 - GL B - 3001-4000 GVWR w/passive restraint 3 - random (couldn't really tell in the pic, just threw this one in) H - 1987 E - 5spd 2x4/4WD (not FT4WD that would be a G) Last six are the production number. So if'n ya look at the dash, she's prolly got a tach. -
Southern Oregon Campout/4x4 run
Adam N.D.J. replied to Adam N.D.J.'s topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Looks like this one is bust. Me n the wife decided to head out to the dunes with her sister and go riding quads. That and the Brat is in no shape to go anywhere anymore. There isn't any drivetrain in her anymore. Been busy the last couple days. As this post dropped off the map, I figured there wasn't any interested. Have to apoligize. I think the Sept. run will be the next actual planned even for the R.R.'s, as that is technically the first ever run for us, and will be THE annual run every year after. Again, I apoligize, and will do a better job of planning things out, I think off weekends are much better at this sort of thing, Memorial weekend is pretty big, and hard to organize something for it, unless it's done way ahead of time. On a side note, the Brat should be done by the WCSS, with fingers crossed! -
The Hatch Patrol story-the unveiling(with pics)
Adam N.D.J. replied to Qman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think I may have come off alittle too strong earlier. I do like the idea. As a matter of fact I'm going to be helping out Soobme when he does his straight axle in the rear. There are always going to be improvements, adding stuff, taking away (I HATE STRUTS!!!), but for most part it will still be a Subaru, at least to a point, a Brat on a CJ chassis isn't in my book, thats too far, I think that it should at least have 75% Subaru in it. As far as the whole V6 thing, thats gotta be aimed towards Rob (The only person I know to put a non-Soob motor in a Soob. A momentary lapse of reason I think), not me, cause if you lift my hood, it says plain as day on the top cover, SUBARU H6. -
The Hatch Patrol story-the unveiling(with pics)
Adam N.D.J. replied to Qman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Wow, I was thinking right!!! The pic with jes the rear done, kinda hinted towards it. Honestly though, I am a little disappointed, due to the fact that whots the real difference between your rig and say an S-10, or a Toyota? Straight axles are ohkay, but you won't see one under my rig, Subaru prides themselves with the 4 wheel independant suspension, and with that I will stay. Besides, the only other rig that's even a formidable apponent to the Soobs with 4WIS is the H1, thought to be the leader of the offroad community, I have no problem being compared to an H1!! Don't look too bad, I'll have to take a look when I come up. I'm actually prolly going to be in the area on Sunday. Did John get a new shop, dropped by the old one and it was empty, N-E-Ways, is that where ya'll meetin on Sun? If'n I can get directions I'll drop in and hang out for a while. -
very possible you could either have the cable routed wrong, out of adjustment, or have the wrong cable all together. I replaced mine and it works just fine, I also re-ran it exactly as the old one was, maybe Matt/Robert or I can check it out for ya sometime.
-
Ditto on that. If your normally never get over say 3.5K then you can get a bunch of stuff built up that you will never touch at or under 3.5K, but if you take it over that, it speeds things up, and can suck all the crap outa your jets, intake, and off the valves, not to mention blow out the exhaust. Soobs have an uncanny knack for fixing themselves, you have just experienced this. I'll take a look for your cable question.

OK. Let's talk about this picture.
Adam N.D.J. replied to ezapar's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Looks sweet. Sure hope I was one of the ones that helped. Do gotta ask bout your hood though, is it open, or suppose to be popped like that. I ask because of my different front end my hood sits like that when it's closed all the way. And I don't have any pics of it like that yet, so I know ya didn't get it from me. N-E-Ways, lookin good. -
OK. Let's talk about this picture.
Adam N.D.J. replied to ezapar's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Dude that ain't right, you were suppose to be origonal Ken, we've already seen a Soob in the super stickbug stance. See attached photo. Hehehe As far as the 6 lugs on the wheels, no biggie, we gots lotsa people with six lugs, take a look at some of my pics. And I'm pretty sure Ken's had em like that for a while now.
