  1. This is whot I've heard talking to a few of the dealership guys. A lot of it has to do with our large western world shipping ports. Most of the stuff from asia and the pacific ring come in through either Seattle or the large ports in Cali, and a bit into Portland. Back when Soobs were being shipped to the states, they would hit the west coast, then it was up to dealers to have them shipped around the country, seeing as how back in the 80's there wasn't too much shipping back and forth across the country as it was a bit expensive, only a few Subaru dealer were on the east coast, and they got more plentiful as you move west. As far as over here, we not only had LARGE dealerships, but also small Rural dealers that usually stocked 5-10 subaru's tops, most had small signs hanging out front, and usually one maybe two may garage. I ran across one of these out in eastern Oregon, or whot was left of it, it was a gas station like building, with a small sign (maybe 3x2 feet) on a small pole (bout 10 feet). Talking to the locals there they said it was a dealership that shut down in the late 80's. Was really kewl. So thats why we have the Subaru superpower over here. I mean, whot are the odds of picking up an 83 GL Brat with no rust for 100 bucks over on the right coast?
  2. Lotsa luck to ya, I know whot it can be like out there in the desert, and keeping your head down is a big must. Take care, and DO come back. Also, if you run into any of the guys from the ARMY with the 41st setting sun, say hi, most of em are good people, and I've got a bunch of friends over there right now.
  3. For the 82, the 83 and the 89, I'm paying about 118 a month. The 82 has some specialty stuff on it cause off all the upgrades and whot not, and all 3 have underinsured/uninsured covereage ontop of the liability. I got through progressive.
  4. Why else do you think they call em Saab's, cause thats whot the owners do when the realize whot they jes bought. Why else would they have to use 94.321% of a Subaru in one of their cars in order to sell some?! N-E-Wayz, back on topic. Sounds like fun, I still have a few months before my unveiling, uh, I mean, the WCSS. Can't wait for a pics.
  5. Ohkay, here's the info. We are going out into Klamath County, (TapRack, this is in your neck of the woods). I was looking around the OOHVA website and came across the OHV park, it looks like the BOMB!!! The Klamath Sportsman Park, it has a lot of stuff that is very appealing, like an Obstical/Technical course!! I dunno if there is on site camping or not, but there are some other places in the area that have some good campin/fishin going on. One of these places, I think that name is Oatman lake, or sumpin like that, well, it's one of our military training area, lotsa good trails and stuff. But N-E-Ways, I'm not entirely sure if leaving on Friday night or Saturday morning is the way to go or not. I'm likeing Friday though, cause it gives us more time to play around at the park, than head out to the lake and look for a base of operations. Hey Tap, if you know of any camping areas near the Sports park, or could scout out some that would be most killer, I'll have a beer waiting for you when we get to camp. So whot do ya'll think? Good Adam? Hey Rogues, I get home about 5:30-6 tomarrow, I think we should get together and get a little planning going on. If anyone wants to gimme a call from outside the area, to come on down, my number is 541 twofourfive-eightfivefourone, I'm home after 6pm. Here's a link to the park: http://www.oohva.org/ohv%20area%20pages/klamath.html This is also better than the dunes, cause it's only like 50 miles out there, rather than like 120. I figure we'll prolly put about 120-150 miles on the rigs during the trip, rather than 250-275 miles by going to the dunes!
  6. I've made some slight changes due to some reason here and there. This up coming weekend is going to include a campout by a lake down here in Southern Oregon, some wheelin, fishing, campfire with Bar-B-Q (hopefully some fish on the fire). Fun shall be had by all. SO lemme know if you can make it, plans to leave out on Friday evening, and get in on Sunday afternoonish.
  7. Due to some extenuating curcumstances, this even has been changed, new thread to reflect the changes that have been made.
  8. Uh, bumperooski! Not too much more time to go! Can I expect anyone else?!
  9. Funny, I seem to remember a guy on alt.autos.subaru way back in like 96 that went by the name coolbeans, or maybe it was coolbeanz, either way he was a really kewl dude, came up with some of the most off the wall ideas, like a turbocharged EA81 Justy!, which back then was just a pipedream, nowadays, it's a reality. . .
  10. As there may have been some confusion, here's a slight change to my earlier post, lets make that the "CarTease of the Year Moosie" as you Have been teasing us for as long as I can remember with various car of some respect or another. Honestly, I like it. It's funny to watch the way some of the people get worked up over not being able to figure out whots going up or down! Keep up the good work bud!
  11. No doubt, my brat wieghs in about 3300 and it's got a 6cylinder, t-case, 3/16" wall 2x2" tube frame, 2"x1/4" tube rollbar, and a bunch of recovery gear!!!
  12. My 83 Brat feels like it's lowered after driving the 82 for the last 5 months. Does that count? My 84 Turbo is kind of lowered cause I put smaller than stock tires on it, so it sits like and inch lower! Still no good? eh, get back to me in about 6 months, then I'll be able to say I do have one lifted and one lowered, and one stock!!
  13. Kewl, didn't realize there were so many DL's out there. We're even with the GL's at the moment. Hey Erik, thats not too bad, check this out: Strip her down to this level, and start from scratch, it's the only way to go!
  14. Seems to me that there are a lot of 82's running among the ranks of the board members. I would like to get an idea of how many there are exactly. So if you've got an 82 Brat post in here. Also knowing if it's a GL or DL would be kewl, as so far, I'm the only DL (well, WAS a DL) that I know of. Adam -82 DL Brat
  15. Jut wondering, but why would you need to huge tires? If you made a gear'd hub like on a hummer, you could replace your stock hub with it, get gear reduction, and a lower output for your wheels. You stick this on a stock, or semi-stock Roo (2" lift?), then put on some standard tires like 27's up to 30's. I see no problem with it. Although you have to work out a way to reverse the output from the tranny's stubs in the front, or else you would be running in reverse in 1st. Also you run into the whole a gear'd hub from a hummer runs to the tune of 500-2500 semolians for a single unit. Unless of course you frequent military auctions, where you can pick up a whole junker HMMWV for 2-4K.
  16. Yeah, Soobme has a torch, he gets home early in morning, so he'll prolly reply then. As for the Pipe, if you go around to some of the muffler shops they will sell you a 5 foot stick for like 10 bucks, and then have them put two 180 bends in each end of it, they will charge for the bends also, vary's per shop. So you can figure like 15-30 for the materials to build it. Not sure if we've met before or not, I usually sent out a pm to new people to the board from the Rogue Valley. You should check out the meet'n'greet section, the Rogue Roo's got a trip comin up next weekend.
  17. I've been lifted for over 5 years now, although you didn't know me then, and it was a puny 2 inches. Anyways. I know you know, most of everyone else knows, but for all the new people, and those that have been in a cave for the last 3 years: 1982 Brat, DGL designation, mods: 6" NDJ Engineering Lift, MPFI 2.7L Flat 6, 5spd D/r 86 RX tranny, Nissan X-fer case, Lincoln Locked rear, GL-10 Seats, custom interior carpet, reverse cut rollbar, 17" Bobtail, 29x9-15's on 8" chevy "deepdish" rims, 6 lug, Jeep 4.0HO Grand Cherokee radiator. And coming, this summer, to a shop near me, A Brat! A Brat unlike any that have been built before, the Hummer of all Brats! Muw wa hahahah. . . ahem, sorry. Club affilations, Founder of the Rogue Roo's, Southern Oregon's one shop stop for all your Subaru desires. Here's the pic: http://usmb.net/albums/album12/flinginmud.jpg (On a side note, I shouldn't watch any of those empowering infomercials before hitting the board)
  18. First off I'd like to say that I hate working all day, and then working on my Brat most of the evening to get it done for the dunes trip. I get in on all this stuff too late. Also, I do have to nominate Eric for the C#$KTease of the year Moosie award. Good to know that I'm not the only one with a supersecret secret squirrel mission going on with a Brat. Pushing the Bar, thats whot it's all about. And finally Ken, Good to see that you finally got some Real Tire.!!
  19. Not that far north, we'll be just south of the Lane/Douglas boarder.
  20. That last link, I think it has some pics from over here on it. Like this one: http://www.jeeptrip.com/albums/zln3p2i1-2.jpg Does this picture look familiar to anyone else here?
  21. From down here it's something like 170 miles there so 340 round trip, plus the miles you put on while on the sand, so you can say some where in the area of 350-380 miles for this trip. For me this comes out to about 4 tanks of gas. So I'm putting aside about 100 bucks for gas. And another 50 for food and misc stuff. I still need to get my atv permit. Crappola. One thing I forgot, was talking to a friend thats also going up, there is another permit that we need in order to actually stay the night out on the sand, it's the Northwest Forest Pass, we need one in each vehicle, much like the ATV permit, the good thing is that all associated passengers are covered under the one permit, so if you have 5 people in one rig, they all camp regardless. Last two years they didn't come up to where we set up camp and check so I dunno. I'm getting one this year because I know the whole 3 strikes your out, Karmic retrobution thing will bite me in the @$$ if I don't.
  22. Tach's can be a good thing. There are all sortsa places they can be put too, they can go on the door pillar, on the steering column, on the dash, in the dash, jes depends a lot on whot your personal preference. If you don't have a tach I'm going to go with the idea that you have the same dash that I have in my 82, if you look jes to the right of the speedo, there is a black spot that says subaru (of course you might have a clock there). Either way, this is where my tach is, I got one that fits perfectly into that space. On a side note everyone else: You can't instantly assume that everyone from Israel is Jewish, there are all sorts of different religions and nationality's. Palistinians(sp?) for one there are also quite a few christian groups. This is one of the reasons that there is so much fighting that goes on, it's alot like Ireland.
  23. Sure thing! I get out the directions and whot not once we get a little closer to that weekend.
  24. Do ANY Subaru's come with onstar? I've spent a bit of time down at the dealership, and in newers Soobs, but can't remember ever seeing an onstar button. However when I was working at a GM dealership, everything had it. As far as the whole drive by wire, wireless control of the vehicle. Yes, it will happen. It's called OBDIII, On board Diagnostic system III. This will use a satellite antenna much like the onstar one, but will connect your vehicle to your dealership. Whot this does is allow your tech to monitor your vehicle if you have a problem and call in requesting assistance. In some ways this is very good, like the old problem of your car has a problem but when you bring it into the shop and the tech test drives it, he can't get it to duplicate the problem. Here you can call him up when it's doing it, and he can monitor the vehicle for problems. Thats pretty good. Not to mention you can get smog tests while you cruising down the freeway, software upgrades from your garage, ect. On the down side, you know for the first year or so untill they get everything set up perfect, there are going to be a bunch of kids running around with laptops stealing cars with the push of a couple buttons. Or if you fail smog they shut your vehicle down and then tow it off to the shop. So just like everything in the world, there are good sides and bad sides. If'n you don't like the new stuff, then just stick with the old.
  25. [/Whips out shotguns and regains control of his own post] So, anyone else interested in coming? ATLAS? You Eugene guys are a hop skip and a jump from there?!! Would like to have a decent turn out this year.
