If it's an auto, bolt it back up, and pull the motor with the tranny. As there is a long shaft (pump shaft? dunno much bout ECVT's) That is seriously long. Anyways, you won't be able to get it out with the tranny held in there.

'84 auto brat, gone nuts
Adam N.D.J. replied to DaveAP's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey Mick, if'n you were under the hood, jumping the starter, why didn't you just pull the coil wire when you realized it was in drive. I did this in the turbo, as the switch is funky in it too, started with my bypass wire under the hood, forgot to put it in neutral (or park, I'm used to driving manuals). Bad thing though I was parallel parked on the street, I pulled the coil just in time, luckily my legs weren't pinned too bad. -

6 lug conversion drill template ready

The front and rear hubs are not the same. The front axle stub that goes into the hub is bigger than the rear stub. -

One speed auto tranny HELP!

Give us the VIN! -
Yeah, I would get the hoses replaced pretty soon. I had one start leaking on me, so I cut it, and put it back in, the next day it blew open, literally, looked like somone had sliced it from one end to the other. I guess the little leak I had was keeping the pressure down enough to keep it from blowing. Also, replace the bypass hose (littleone coming out the top of the water pump), that one blows alot, and has been the death of a number of soob engines.

EA82T in Gen 1 Brat, it's in there!!!!
Adam N.D.J. replied to garner's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Last time I weighed my gen 1 is was a little under 2200 pounds, but thats with the rear jump seats, a topper, spare tire under the hood, and crap in the cab. So I think if you remove the rear seats, and everything non essential, you can get it to round 1900. The GL-10 sedan weighed in at close to 2700, that was completely empty. Just for S*$t's and giggles, did ya'll know that an 87 Supra weighs almost 4000 pounds!!! -
Preview pic of EA-82...9 yr old daughter built
Adam N.D.J. replied to brat86's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Don't they have child labor laws down there??!! Hehe, jes kiddin. Looks good. I do have to say, if I have a daughter I would prefer that she build her own motor for her Soob, it gives a kid so much appreciation for their first car if they built it themselves (with dads or moms help of course). Looks killer. -
T-case driveline q's
Adam N.D.J. replied to bushbasher's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Another reason for the slip shafts is: how the heck ya gonna get a solid shaft in there? My rear diff and T-case are in rubber, but there is no way I could get the rear driveline in there if it was a solid unit. The flanges actually have a little recess to them that help hold them. Would be like trying to put in a rear axle without any slip in the DOJ's. -
EA82T in Gen 1 Brat, it's in there!!!!
Adam N.D.J. replied to garner's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey Garner, lookin sweet, I'm gonna have to hide this thread from my wife, or she'll want to do the same to her 80 Brat. If'n you run into any trouble when it comes to wireing her up, lemme know, I'm just down the road here in Medford, and I can run up there on a weekend and help you out. I've got down this whole fuel injection conversion wireing thing to practically a science now. -
Yeah, soobs are warm, in park, it's best to take a short drive around the block too, to make sure the tranny shifts through the gear automatically, as well as shifting it manually, then check it. Also, don't forget to check the front diff fluid, I can't count the number of times that I've gottan and auto soob that didn't have any fluid left in the front diff.

A compression check will not always turn up bad rings. I've got a severe oil consumption problem with my turbo. I narrowed it down to cylinder #3. But the kicker is that the compression is 140 across the board. At first I thought it was valve seals, so I replaced the heads with rebuilt ones from AHR, still does it. Remember, your compression rings and oil control rings are separate entities, you can have a missing oil control ring, burn tonnes of oil, and still have good compression.

I didn't have to name my rigs, they told me them the first time we talked to each other. The Brat: Kei Silvia Oshima The 84 Turbo: Yukiko Leena Yoshida The 89 3door: Kyoko Jayna Umeki The 80 Brat: Suki Baybie Ashia

Which one of you guys lives in West Lynn, OR?
Adam N.D.J. replied to ezapar's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, getting a car registered over state lines isn't that hard, but what is the problem is that a lot of times the new state won't send out to the prior one clearing it. I've had the same problem selling cars to people from Cali. I got a letter from the OR DMV for a renewal of tag for a car I sold years ago, to a guy from Cali, real pain it was, cause I couldn't remember who it went to or anything. It did turn out to be a good thing, cause when I got that letter I went down and check out my file, and I still had 8 vehicles registered to me! I've only got 4 in the driveway! -
Now that would be a way to deliver the mail!!! By the water cooler: "Yeah Jim, and she can deliver 15 blocks of mail in less than 20 minutes!!" "Wow!"

Welp, I'm thinking that I'm going to be kickin it at home this weekend. If the weather is nice, I'm going to get the engine and trans outa the coupe. Then start getting them apart and hopefully have them ready for when I get the parts, that way I can get it on the road soon. Also got a little bit of work to do to the Brat.

Geeze, don't even get me started on that whole oops, thing. Lets just say I've been working on the same ford at work for 3 days now, on the same thing, the oil cooler, pulled it off twice now!!!!! So, it happens. Heck, took me 3 tries to get a good rear diff hanger!! And my 4spd shifter, don't even remember how many times that took, way too many in my book! Jes remember to keep cool about stuff, one of the biggest things for me is to just step back, take a deep breather, relax a little, then go back into it. Helps out a lot.

Sounds kewl, whots the name of your friends band? I mighta heard of em. Think you can score some free tickets?? -
First time I've seen this thread. I too have this same problem in my 89 GL, wipers jump two or three times, then wipe, and park, then does the same thing over. I too have gotten pretty good with the pull to wipe switch. If anyone figures this one out, lemme know, cause I haven't been able to make heads or tails of it.
