Tell ya whot Jay, definatly looks sweet. Nothing quite like a freshly cleaned motor. Except maybe if you go nuts on it, and polish the aluminum But thats almost too much time and effort to be worth it. Keep up the pic updates, a day source of Soobie P**N is good for the soul. Oh yeah, I think that bigjim hit the bird emblymn on the head there. The cam baskets where prolly made in the Robin plant, which is (was?) a different building on the FHI Gunma plant. -
Radiator Fans Wont do their job

Yeah, I've done a few swaps and forgotten that little wire on the top of the rad when putting it back in. Then agian most of my engine changes usually end after dark, with me holding a flashlight doing the test fire. Another wire that commonly get forgetten is the one going into the thermoswitch in the side of the radiator. There have actually been times that I've replaced the switch it's self and forgetten to hook it back up. That kinda sux. -
mpfi conversion, what not to do

You guys are kinda on the right track, but for the most part way off. You shouldn't cut corners on stuff like this. Granted, it may have worked for some people along the way, but doing it the right way is a much better idea. First pull out the drivers seat (and rear seat is you have one), pull the carpet away from the side, there will be the stock fuel lines right there. Then whot you do is go down and buy 8 feet of aluminum 3/8's hardline, get this from any parts store. The stuff is actually pretty flexable, and you can get cheap bending tools for it too. Then just start going through the grommet in the fire wall from the engine compartment to the drivers compartment, push in the new hardline. Pull it down from the dash, then pull it through untill you have enough to go out the hole towards the tank and pump. Onces you have the line coming in and going out, start shaping it to match the stock hardline, and zip tie it to the stock line as you go. Then just replace the interior stuff and your good to go. It took me about 30 the first time I did it, now I can do it in about 15. Now that you have the new feedline, you just use the old feedline as the new return line. Replace the old rubber on the you "new return" with FI rated hose, and use FI hose on the new feed connections, and it will handle up to 90psi with no problems. You will also have to consider the tank. The stock output on the tank will not feed a FI pump very well, as most FI pump have at least a 1/2 input and 3/8 output, and the carb'd tanks outputs are normally 3/8's. You have fix this in two ways, get an FI tank, (my route), or you can go down to you local hardware supply store, get a brass fitting with a 1/2" nipple on it, and fine thread couple. Drill a hole in the bottom side of the tank faceing the pump slightly smaller than the brass coupleing, be carefull, and use lots of cutting lubricant on the drill bit to avoid overheating it (BOOM). Then just put some teflon tape on the threads of the fitting, and start running it in there. The two that I've done this too (as temp means while searching for an FI tank) worked just fine and didn't leak. You can then use any 1/2" fuel grade rubber hose to connect the tank to the pump. Hope this helps everyone out. -
There is alittle dissention up in the air right now. I've talked to some people that say you need a permit at the ponds, some say you don't. I'm not sure yet. Before that weekend I'm going to be going to the governing body of the ponds to find out for sure (and to get my own key!). But the permit in which I speak is your standard state of oregon ATV permit. As for outa staters, not sure what the requirements, if any, are.

Hey all, every year I go on an annual Easter day mud run at the White City ponds (big ol ORV park). And this is a formal invite for anyone that wants to tag along. There will be a tonne of other rigs out on the mud on that day (as there is every year). So if any of you Northern guys aren't doing anything then, c'mon down and have some fun. I realize a lot of people are gonna be in church and whot not, but whot the heck. See ya'll

oil cooler location/type

tranny coolers do work good. They have very little resistance, and good thermal conductivity, i.e. they are used to cool off the high temps of tranny fluid. I've got a copper oil cooler, aftermarket type that was used for a Turbo 400. Works really well, I've seen a drop as much as 50 degree's between the input and output. Here's a pic: -
Ohkay, I'm kind of in awe of this, and not sure if anyone else has realized it. But seems to me that 82 Brats are the common candidate for ER27 swaps. I mean there's mine and SubaruBrat's that happened at almost the same time, and then there is Tom that is working on putting one into his 82. Is there some sort of conspiracy at work here? On a side note, hey Tom, how's your swap coming along, haven't seen any updates in a while. Also Brat, you got anymore body shop photo's?? Can't wait to see the final product.

If anyone is looking for a cheap, very good compressor for onboard air, hit up the rabbits. VW Rabbits had York style compressors for the A/c system, and can be had for quite cheap from wrecking yards. I've got one, and it puts out some serious pressure and awsome CFM. Only down side, (for me), is that they all have V-belt pully's on them, and I have a serpentine belt as of my last engine swap.

I asked this question of everyone at Subaru or FHI everytime I run into one. The consensus being that the cable brake is on the front tires, because those are the drive wheels on the older subaru's. Seems to be that way on most cars with any decent bit of technology. Put the ebrake on the drive wheels will slow the vehicle down more effectivly in an emergency. If they were on the back, you had some serious malfunctions, (run away motor, locked in gear, yadayadayada), then you could lock up the front end, effectivly killing the power transfere. It all works well in the theory, the practical application of it kinda sux though.

Rogue Roo's, sticker go/nogo

The Pirate 4x4 guys run around with standard Jolly Rogers (i.e. no bandana, ear-ring yadayada), so I wan't something that represented a Rogue, but didn't want to get caught up in the other guys, so it sets us apart. (kinda the same reason back in the Buccanear days they came up with said flag). The apostrophe, I dunno, it looks right to me, the apostrophe S adds ownership to something, like Adam's Brat, well Rogue Roo's Trails, Mud, Sand, basically it's saying "We own ya!!" I'm gonna be getting the final price today, but I think it should come out to around 5 bucks apiece, as it's not really that small of a sticker (around 3x5, but I think I said that earlier). Not sure how many will be in this first run, but I know there are people up and down the PAC the deserve one. -
Ohkay, I think I've come up with a final product for our winder sticker. Just want to see whot ya'll think, it'll be about 3x5, I changed it a little cause it's a bit cheaper to do less colors. Also need to meet up with everyone and talk a bit about "donations" for the run of them. Here's whot I got:

Had a killer meet n mud down here today. Was totally awsome. Big thanks to General Disorder and his friend (sorry, kinda bad with names), and Subaru Junkie. Their comin and playin with the Rogue Roo's was most killer. The "offroad accessories" look killer on the rigs they went onto (sure pics are to come). TWB Fab is turning out some awsome stuff. The mud was thick and gooey. And the water was most rightous. Mmmm, doughnuts, doughnuts are good. I got some good video footage, and so did Soobadoom, and Brian, we'll get it transfered to tape for ya ASAP. (yeah right, who am I kidding). Sorry bout all the carby problems, with I could have felt your pain, but I'm just not in that boat We'll have to do this again sometime. The dunes run on memorial day is still open to all commers, Mud is fun, but Sand is Grand!!

I hear ya on it never being done. Also glad to see your making the plunge. It's a good mod to do, and you really don't have to worry bout much with the ER. Did you grab the shaft from the nissan tranny to the T-case? With that, you don't have to do a lot of work, it plugs right into the Subaru tranny. I got both my drivelines made up for a Benjy, thats making the rear one, shortening the Nissan front one, and replaceing the front U-joints. Not too shabby. Keeps the pics flowin!!! -

Ohkay, here we go, this is a route map to get to my place. You come off the free way, takeing the south Medford exit (33 I do believe). From the stop at the end of the offramp take a left, go over the freeway, and right on the other side is a light, take a left there. That puts you on Stewart, grab the right lane and follow Stewart all the way up to Newtown, there is a Chevron gas station on the opposite side as the turn you'll take. Take a right on Newtown and follow it almost all the way down, if you hit 11th street, you've gone too far, my driveway is caddy corner from 12th street. -

Hey everyone, I'm back!! A little over a week in Paso Robles was almost more than I could handle. Although I did get to take my Hummer thrashin through some knarly tank trails!!! Fri or Sat huh Bri?? I get you some directions to my new place, it's real easy to find, and not too far from the freeway. (Actually closer than the old house in GP). Watch out on the passes though, when we were coming through today, it was getting slammed with some serious rain/snow and HEAVY winds. I mean my 13,000Lbs HumV was getting thrashed around, a little Soob would be like a kite. I am seriously ready to get some wheelin on though!! We got a place planned out and whot not?? Oh yeah, Bri get with me so that you can get some digits. -
Grrr, ohkay, the short story. Wife went to Wal-mart, I stayed home. I get a call, the car died, won't start. So I drive out to where she's at (luckily it was a couple blocks from her work). Go check out the car, won't start as she says, check all the wireing under the hood, find nothing wrong. No spark. Hmm, look at the belt through one of the missing covers, no teeth, grrrr. The biggest problem that we face at the moment is that I leave the state for 10 days at 8 tomarrow morning, at this is our only daily driver, and she's scared to drive the Brat. Why is it that these things happen only at the most in opportune times. I couldn't have done it like 7 hours ago when the parts stores where open, and I could have layed out in the rain and fixed it tonight, and been all groggy driving down I-5 into Cali. No, had to wait till 10:30 at night, on the day before I leave!!! I know someone is going to give that routine maintinence lecture. But there was no way for us to really know, the odo stopped working a long time ago, and one of the service records states that the belts were changed no too awfully long ago. Grrr, guess I'm a little miffed right now. If any of the Rogues catch this soon, and can spare a vehicle for a week and half it would really set my mind at ease knowing that the wife can get too work. Grr, somehow I knew that I should have thrown the motor in the other Brat sooner. Dang procrastination!! Guess I'm done ranting..... for now.

89 3-Door = Yes 84 Turbo = Yes 82 Brat = NO 80 Brat = NO Wish I did in the Brat though, I'm still working on a way to adapt a standard power steering pump onto the XT-6, although I haven't really been trying too hard. Should be, cause driving the down the road, I feel every pebble, and turning those tires in a parking lot, HA! -

Mmm, 82 Brat, kinda have a sweet spot in my heart for the that year. Wonder why, oh wait a minute!! I have a drivers side antenna! Thats gotta be why. Not really a whole lotta sites that go into depth on Soobs and Off-roading, but if you look around here, and check out the sites in peoples sigs, you find a lot of good info. Also the board it's self is an awsome place for info. They don't make lockers for soobs, yet. We're working on it, and I think one day it'll happen. Some people are working on spools, ones that will get rid of the weak, hollow stubs. For now, you can go with the old standby, a Lincoln Locker. -Scott, still nukin tranny's huh? Are these 4 or 5 speeds? Cause I feel your pain on the 4spd, mine went pulling it out of the car port first time I drove it with the new motor. The 5spd thats in it now though, holding up just find, with no problems. (trannys a 5spd D/r out of an 86 RX). -
