  1. The windshield will work. Got one out of a wagon in the Brat now, and replaced one in a wagon with one from a coupe once too. EA81 Windsheilds interchange in all apects. It's the other glass that doesn't.
  2. Woah Ken, you over ran me! In the last 6 years I've only had a little over 40. Some fixed and resold, some parted. Got my 4 keeps though, they'll never go away. Lotsa people look at me with envy when I tell them I have a Gen I and II brats, and an EA81 Coupe and an EA82 Coupe. There is a reason behind that though, his and hers The wife is almost as "el loco" as I am about Soobies (although half the time she won't admit it).
  3. Coulda just been the belt. It was around 30 here the other day, I started up the brat, and cold idle is about 2500, but the belt was moving so slow it didn't look like it was spinning. Didn't sqeal either. I revved the engine to 4K and the belt didn't go any faster. After about 20 minutes of warming up the engine the belt started screaming, then grabbed hold and spun with the engine. And that was at 30, I can imagine what -13 could do. Although this was a serpentine belt, v-belt could behave differently. Also on both my rigs the first crank is slow, like a dying battery, then it fires up and goes. Hope it isn't anything serious.
  4. If someone gets it, I could prolly scare up some room to store it for a while. I'm not looking for any cars right now. On the other hand, if you run across a motorcycle, of the street variety, preferable 300cc's or more, that I'm looking for.
  5. I got mine at the dealership here, can't remember the price though, too long ago. But it wasn't too awfully bad though. The Hitachi better than the Carter/Weber???????!!!!!!!! WHAT? I beg to differ, I Never had any problems with mine after I rebuilt it. It would start up on the first crank, and ran smooth through the whole rom range, never flooded or leaned out, even offroading in some extreme conditions. Hitachi on the other hand, had nothing but trouble from them, gutless, flooded out too much. Plus the amount of torque that you gain going to the 1bbl is awsome, the low end on the EA81 started around 800rpm, but I could run it down as low as 500 and have it keep running crawling around offroad. But that my opinion.
  6. I always use a mix of 25% antifreeze to 75% water. Winters round here don't go much below 30, so it's still protected from freezing, but the cooling (and heating) are much better. I acidentially put in over 50% AF in one of my cars, and the heater almost didn't heat at all. I've worked on cars that the coolant was neon green (way too rich), it should just be slightly green, and definatly not neon to work in it's best capacity.
  7. Looking good! And welcome to the club! It may have 2 extra parts, but it's still a Subaru. Due to the fact that it has it's own custom frame, not "just a truck frame". Also look at every other 4by truck out there. They have straight axles under em, at least one, if not two. Soobs have independant suspension, and still do, even if you have this conversion. This sets it apart from pretty much every other truck out there, and in the league with one of the best off road rigs out there (that also has fully independant suspension. But I'm rambling off topic. Lookin good man. And when you come back up, you better stop off in Medford!! Or I'm gonna drive up to your place and do doughnuts on your lawn (You should now know how fun it is, being RWD!)
  8. I have at least one more, if not two. They look really good when they are cleaned up. I think I'm going to be heading over to GP today, so I'll look around and try to grab them. You got another wagon??!?!?!
  9. I made up another crossmember that lifts the engine back up, this is welded to the stock crossmembers lift blocks. There really isn't a way to extend the steering without welding, unless you came up with something that involved another U-joint and another shaft maybe, I dunno. You can see the exhaust goes between the two crossmembers, this is really good cause it keeps the exhaust tucked up outa the way. Second one has more light, better angle. You can see the bar that is the engine crossmember. Hope this helps. edit: Gallery Link
  10. Kewl, thats good to hear, so I can't get the wrong clutch!!
  11. Thanks alot, very informative. I think that I may just stick with whot I got, now that I've got a lead on a clutch kit for less than 200 bucks. One question though, does the clutch disc for the 4wd XT6,2wd XT6 and D/r 5spd have the same diameter and spline? I can't remember if I used the stock clutch disc that came with the motor or one of the D/r ones I had around. Also I'm not sure if the motor came out of a 2wd or 4wd. Just want to make sure that when I order it, I get the right one for my tranny.
  12. Ohkay, I've got the basic stuff down. The ER27 is a lighter replacement for the EA82. How much heavier is the EA82's? Is it a direct bolt in replacement?? I'm wondering cause for offroad applications a heavier flywheel is the way to go, keeps things running in the low rpm applications. Since the ER is timed on the front pully I'm not worried about that stuff. I just want to make sure that if I get an EA82 flywheel it'll bolt right in without any work to it. I'm going to get a new clutch, and the EA82's kit is much cheaper than the ER27's anyways. Thanks all!
  13. Ohkay, does everyone know where Stewart Ave. is? If not, when you get off the South Medford I-5 exit, coming from the north, that will put you on Stewart, or you can get to it from the other side, via Ross Lane. Here's the map, Newtown is directly off Stewart, there is a Chevron on the opposite side of the street, and it doesn't go through Stewart. The house is almost right across the street from 12th, on the right hand side (coming from Stewart). Just turn into the driveway just before the 2 story house across from 12th. Should be able to see the Soobs parked in the drive though.
  14. Ohkay, Sunday it is, how bout round 11 or 12, I'll draw up a map on how to get here in a bit, it's pretty simple though. For now, I gotta clean up some.
  15. This idea has been running around for a long while now. I was going to do it to mine on the last bearing change, but somehow forgot, then wasn't going to take everything apart again to do it. I know there have been several others that have talked about it, but I'm not sure if anyone has actually done it yet.
  16. Kewl, goodies for the Bratski!! Mmmm, snow, we got a little dusting here this morning, but it was all melted off pretty early, there was just enough for the wife to throw a snowball at me.
  17. Hey Heep, jes give Ken's rig a little test drive, it'll be all over from there. Once you go Subaru nothing else will do. When I first started running around in the woods with my Brat all my trail buddies were driving K5's, Bronco's, and Scouts. I kept up with almost no trouble at all, even with 29" tires and a 1.8 4 banger. Now that I have the 2.7L six and dual T-case, I've pretty much left wheeling with all the big trucks, as it's too boreing waiting around for them. Thankfully I've been lucky enough to track down a bunch of other Soob nuts in my area that I can wheel with, and it's much more fun.
  18. Hey Sean, don't really need much to be a Rogue, just own a Soob, and wheel it with us, no due's or fee's or real hardcore requirements. (the only real one is that the offroad permit be placed on the back of the near the model designation badge). On a side note, I'm going to be getting the graphics made up for everyone here next month, it'll be a little 6" graphic of the Jolly Roger (as seen in my signature), no one has to put one on, and there are no limits to how many you want to wear (I know about your sticker addiction Tony). I'm not sure how much they are going to run right now, or if I'll even ask for anything for them.
  19. Hey everyone, I'm over here in Medford now, in the new place. I'm getting everything settled, and now have more time to dedicate to the club. I'd like to get things a little more organized, and would really like to get phone numbers to get ahold of you all, as the computer isn't always the best way, specially for some of the more spur of the moment type stuff. Would really like to get everyone together here soon, like next weekend, lemme know how yer schedules looks.
  20. A diode?? Really?! I don't have one anywhere, least not that I know about. Did you pull out just the computer harness for the engine, or are you useing the whole harness from the XT? I used just the computer harness, and was able to condense it way down, taking out A LOT of things.
  21. EA81 front suspension has a lot of potential, but is limit by two major thing. The radius rod, and the strut (THE STRUT!!!! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). But the radius rod is the major thing, if you remove it from the control arm you will notice that even the strut has a little more travel. There are research centers currently working on new suspension setups that will allow for more travel., cause we aren't near the limit of the front axles with the stock suspension, and those of use with radical front ends the stock setup is no wear near good enough.
  22. Yup, when I thrashed the 4spd in my Brat (82) I replaced it with one from an 84, serious difference in the top speed, 82= 65@like 4K 84=65@3.6K. As far as I can rember of course, your results may vary. I almost never use the top 2 gears offroad, so it wasn't a problem.
  23. Whot's yer vehicle Travis? They do have aux electric fans for the EA81's, I've seen a good number of them, thats whot I've got on mine. There definatly is a noticable difference with the mech fan off, thats the first thing that I do when I get a vehicle. I've only got the one electric fan on my EA82, and it works just fine, even in the summer, I've got a brand new radiator in it though.
  24. Hey Biffany, looks like you got the same rigs as me, 80 GL Brat & 82 DL Brat. Kewl. I've had the 80 with the 1600 and single range tranny up to 65 in 4WD with no probs, have shifted it in and out on the freeway cause of snow and ice, no probs. The single range's are high range 4WD only so it's not a problem, and they are syncro'd so they shift fairly smoothly, unless you bind up the drivetrain (i.e. driving on dry pavement).
  25. I'm with Scott on this one, it's more of a hybrid, it's neither but both. It's kind of a world in it's own. Actually haveing it done, and operating the vehicle puts more of a persepctive on things. I've run across quite a few people that just give me that puzzed look when I try to describe it (you have 3 shifters!!??) But once they see it in action it's a whole other story. I don't have to worry about banging up my oil pan or tranny anymore, but of course I do have a lower point in the center of the truck that I have to deal with, it has it's trade off's. I like the way mine is set up, everything is really quick and easy. I can change a front diff in 20 minutes, I can pull the engine in 15 (working on getting it down to 5), everything is setup so that I can quickly pull it out if I need to fix it on the trail, and with the height there is plenty of room to work under there. I'm actually working on a setup so that the motor can come out real quick on the trail, and only require myself to do it. I think I'm starting to ramble off topic now. I've put body lifts on other rigs (Blazers, Broncos, ect. And the engine stays in the same location, but the body moves higher around it, just like the BYB/PK lifts. Where as lifts like mine leave the engine location relative to the body in the same place. So yeah, it's neither a body or suspension lift, but both.
