  1. Ya know what, I was brought up that HELL was a BAD place to live! But now that I know this, I'm ready to go!! Yeah baby bring it on!!! Jes gimme a shop so that I can lift everyone elses down there, I'll make a killing, or is it living, awe hell who care, (holds up a HELL OR BUST sign)
  2. Looks like I'm not going to be able to bring the bumper up with me, the ARMY is sending me up in a van with a bunch of other people. I am leaving around 10 in the morning from here, that should put me up there round 1 or 2ish, and I don't have anything to do till 8 the next morning, so if anyone isn't doing anything, and wants to show me around Friday afternoon/evening that would be way kewl. Would also be kewl to get some contact numbers for while I'm up there.
  3. Wonder where that other axle went?? So does this mean that there is going to be an engine swap soon?? Hmm
  4. Yeah, used to be like that for me. When I first got into Soobs the only people I knew of were Billy C in Georgia and Geoff in Seattle. Quite a distance there. I searched and searched for more, the board got bigger and bigger and seemed that no one in my area had a computer. As of the last year now they've been coming out of the woodwork round here. You jes have to stick with it, and chat with a lot of people in parking lots out in the rain. I've come to detirmine that if they will actually spend more than 5 or 10 minutes in the pouring rain chattin up their car, they are prolly certifiable.
  5. Is it this wagon?? If so that's Tony, good guy, goes by Soobme round here. I'm Adam, I've started up a Wheelin Club for Subaru's here in Southern Oregon (I live in Grants Pass). We're still in the infant stages, but are going to get together here in the next couple of weeks and see where we're going. It's always good to have more rigs, and I'm diggin that ladder system you've got there, pretty slick.
  6. Sorry, was away for the weekend. My motor sits up where it would be if it wasn't lifted. You do have to clearence the frame rails a little, but nothing real serious, you don't have to cut anything. I beat mine down with a BFH. Also my motor sits further back in the engine compartment too, so I had to do a little more beating than you'll prolly have to do. You do have to remove the hill holder. The master cylinder isn't really a problem but the brake lines are, you will have to move the brake lines around, rebend them and stuff to clear the distributor. I used some t's and 8" straight pieces, I put the straight piece into the MC and bent them around the dizzy, then put the T's on the end's of those, and plugged the brake lines into the T's. Jes gotta take your time with it is all, I spent a bit of time putting the motor in, and taking it out, over and over. A stock Brat might be alittle more difficult cause you have the radiator supports and all the front sheet metal in the way to take it in and out alot. But I think you'll end up clearencing about 3/4 of inch on each side, or close to that.
  7. Ohkay, I gotta know where you've been hiding??!!! I thought I'd been doing a good job of rounding up the Roo's in the Rogue Valley!!!! You know Tony, Matt, or Mike??? Check it out.. Rogue Roo's Post You work for Erickson??
  8. I'm actually useing a radiator out of a 90 something jeep cherokee, 4.0L. My front end is also extended out a little bit, not a whole lot, the front bumper still sits about the same spot though. Here's a couple pics of it. It does sit a little high for most people, this in mainly cause of the fact that my slide off front end uses 1/4 C channel that is slid into the frame rails, so I couldn't really notch it out to drop the rad down lower. ALthough if I had done that, I would have my lower rad hose sitting a little lower, and may not have had to make up the funny S hose that's in there. It doesn't over heat though, sometimes it's a little too cold. I got the radiator from a wrecking yard for like 40 bucks. Hope this helps.
  9. Sounds good to me, I'm gonna be over at his place sometime this weekend, so I'll see how it's coming along, and maybe give him a little push if he's slackin. If I could find a way to turn it profitable, I wouldn't mind shuttling parts up and down the I-5 pipeline. Hmm...
  10. So when can we start pre-ordering the calendars?? I need a new one here soon (go figure). Plus I CAN'T miss out on this opportunity!!!
  11. Oh yeah, I totally left out on a date. I'm going to be heading up there on the friday the 5th and leaving out on the the 7th.
  12. If you turn on your A/c and the compressor is frozen up and won't spin, this would normally burn up your belt and cause lotsa problems, in enters Subaru's ingenuity. That thing monitors the compressor, and if the compressor stops spinning, then it will disengage the clutch, saving the belts. It's like a safety feature.
  13. Tick, tick, tick, tick. Ohkay, here's the thing, my ER27 doesn't normally tick. When I first put in the motor I flushed it out and didn't have a problem all summer. But now that it's getting into winter (I changed the oil down to 5w30 from 15w40), I have a ticking when I first start it up, and the longer I let it sit, the longer it takes to stop. Is this normal??? I'm not really too used to dealing with the OHC, and my EA82 car doesn't do this in the morning. Is this a normal thing?? Do the lifters have a tendancy to bleed down when it sits for a while? When I started it today that Brat had been sitting for over a week since I last started it, and it took almost an hour for it to stop ticking!! I'm just wondering, cause I'm hopeing that there is nothing wrong my engine, this baby is fresh, and I don't want to tear into it again!! Thank you!
  14. Nope, no difference in performance. Just a whole heck of a lot warmer. Did you change the radiator or any other major components this year? That can make a world of difference. I've got a brand new radiator in there, with the old one a 180 was just fine, and sometimes not low enough, (as to be expected with a bum radiator). When I first started mine this morning I turned off the radio and everything, sure enough, there was a slight wooshing from the heater core, which is interesting cause I used a power bleeder on my cooling system. But it was only for a slight second and haven't heard it since. It may have something to do with it sitting, I dunno though.
  15. Hey Tony, I'll be in your neck of the woods this weekend, I'll come by and see if you've got it figured out by then, if not, I'll see if I can figure something out.
  16. I've gotta go up the the Salem Armory for next months drill (re-up stuff). And wanted to see who all could meet me up there for a little gettin together. I'm heading up on Friday afternoon, drilling on Saturday day, evening off, then heading home Sunday afternoon/evenish. Can't remember whot Armory you drill at General, was thinking that your in the area so it might be the same one. I'm bringing up the Red 3-door. So all you Portland people wanna get together for a while and hang out or sumpin, there a few of you that I haven't met yet and would really like too.
  17. Ohkay, I replaced the 180 thermostat with a 192 one, there is a definate difference. It gets warmer in the morning, and stays warmer too. Before it would just barely get warm inside the car, but now it definatly does get pretty toasty, I actually had to turn down the heater and pop open the moonroof, it's amazing whot only 12 degree's will do, but definatly worth it!!
  18. 30" tires + 2 lug nuts + Brat = same situation. I was testing out my new tires before I could get the rims drilled out, and I snapped off the two lug nuts holding on the wheel, luckily it was a fairly low speed operation (bout 25-30mph), but it was definatly interesting. The people having a barbque in the back yard that the tire flew into were a little shocked also.
  19. My 80 Brat, the alternator was replaced with the one from the 82, (wife swapped em out, didn't know). So we had an internal VR alt in an external VR car, it blew the external VR, and the internal one would work intermittanly, alot like the problems at hand here. Whots the part number of the alternator that Autozone gave you? I used to work at "the zone" and most of the guys that work there no NOTHING about Soobs, I've seen the wrong part almost go out the door on several occasions. I still buy parts from there, but I look em up in the computer, and pull them down myself. I'll go see whot the part number you should have for your rig is. Cause I suspect you may have the wrong alt in there.
  20. I've heard from some that the socket for doing the front end of a chevy 4wd will work, the one with the "teeth" layed out on it. I've never actually tried it myself though. I've never seen an actual factory/dealer tool, even the local dealership has never seen one, makes wonder if there was actually a tool made for it.
  21. 180's can be too cold for the winter time. I had a 180 and it wasn't right how cold it was. It would take about 20 miles on the free before it was warm enough to defrost the windshield, and that's after warming it up. I've got a 190 in the other car and it's way warmer, 20 minutes of warming up and it's nice and toasty in the car. I'm going to change out the 180 tomarrow, and if it makes a difference (which I'm sure it will), I'll let ya know. But I'm suspecting you've prolly got the same problem.
  22. Ohkay. Am I going to have to wait a few month, then ask again in order to get a good idea, or whot?? I would like to know as soon as possible though, cause I don't want to get a campsite for 10 rigs and only have 3 show up, would kinda be a waste, although I would have enough room to do, uh, and, yeah. Anyways, I guess I'll jes get back to everyone a little later in the new year. Hope that there is some interest though, would kinda suck going out there for the 3rd year in a row and being the only Soob on the sand.
  23. Oh yes! It is definatly possible to thrash the block on a Soob motor. Most people think of the EA motors an near indestructable, specially the 81, but they aren't, a rod knock and 6 grand can produce these results. But I would check the car over, could be that it might just have a T-belt, or head/headgasket problem. 300 for a turbo isn't that bad at all, even if it isn't runing, and a block can be had for pretty cheap. Depending on whot you want to do with the car is whot you need to look into on whot you want to do. Lotsa luck.
  24. Yup, 2 fasteners, one bolt, one nut. The flange does get gunked up, and sometimes they tend to stick a little, get a rubber mallet and give it a couple wacks, should come right out.
  25. You've got drill that weekend also huh. Seems that they spy on our private lives and plan stuff that always seems to get in the way. Was wondering though, does Oregon require a tree permit to pluck up a Christmas tree? I can't seem to find anything about it, I've asked around at the county offices and no one seems to know about it. Hmm
