  1. Have you tried flipping the inboard cups around? I haven't tried it with a gen one axle, but you can take the cup off the newer axle and put it on the end of the older axle so you have closer to the right length and the right splines on it. It may be a little longer but not so much that it would cause problems. By the way, I'm really liking what you've got going here. I've recently completed a major swap in a Gen II Brat. I put in an ER27 2.7L 6 cylinder out of an 89 XT-6. I can understand whot you've got going on with all the wireing and everything. I started with a complete wireing harness from the XT-6 and cut it down to where I just had the engine part of the harness, then put that one into the Brat as a stand alone system. It took me a while to get all the wires cleaned up, but now it's starting to look pretty good. I'm not too worried about it though, as it's not a show vehicle. Keep up the good work, hope you get the axle thing worked out. Oh yeah, you can check out my work in progress here. THE Brat
  2. You will need to put the MPFI heads on the SPFI block in order to use the spider intake, (Jes sayin it for others reading that may not know, I'm sure you already do). The MPFI has a lower compression ratio than the SPFI, so you will already have a higher compression than the multiport (9.5:1 instead of 9:1). If the CIS-E is tuned right, then it should make alittle more power than jes a stock multi system. One of the things that you'll need to pick up is a carb'd distributor for the EA82, cause the SPFI dizzy is an optical unit, and rely's on the computer in order to work, shouldn't be too hard to pick on up though, I see carb'd motors in the wrecking yards till my eyes bleed. When you set the timing, set it a little bid retarded, this will take up slack for the higher compression, and it prolly won't ping, either that, or jes richen up the CIS more than normal. So you have emissions in your area, that may complicate things? No matter whot your doing though, you'll still end up spending money. I have enough parts laying around to build like 3 or 4 cars, yet I'm always shelling out cash on things. Works that way for some reason. Specially when your doing a swap of any kind. But it's usually low amounts of cash that you really need, it's always the small stuff that kills me. Lotsa luck to ya, keep us updated, and if you run into any trouble I can help ya out.
  3. Hey Brian, keep your weather to yourself!!! We've had no rain round here, and this is Oregon!!!! It just dropped into the high 70's today, and we have some pretty good cloud cover, so hopefull we'll get wet round here. Although it kinda sux, the Brat is down with some suspension woe's, and the motor is out of the Turbo. So I can wait at least another week for some rain, till I get my rigs back up to full operational status!
  4. They don't have a listing for the ER27!! Does anyone know if the EA82 pump is the same as the ER27? The Brat could use a high volume pump. Least they have one for the EA81T.
  5. Ohkay, I got the stuff today to put the motor back together. With the exception of a couple of gaskets (oil and water pumps). But I've got the rings and pistons for it. With any luck, I'll be up and running by this weekend. Hope so, cause I want to hold a little mini meet of the Rogue Roo's this weekend.
  6. Well, I found just found a pretty good sized problem. My number 3 piston, when I was pulling off the rings, I got the two compression rings off, then something fell out. I looked down and there is this little crescent piece of aluminum. The ridge between the rings was broken, and looks like the only thing that was holding it together was the rings, or the cylinder wall or something. I didn't see it when I just looked over the pistons last night, but in taking it apart, it fell apart. Grrr. How much do pistons run for this engine? Where is the best place to get them?? I tried the local parts stores, and they show the same part numbers for the N/a and turbo engines. That ain't right!
  7. Ohkay, I got a good nights sleep, and calmed down. I've rebuilt many a motor and modified most of those. I've fixed more cars than I can currently count of everything I can think of. Built one of the baddest Brats on the west coast, why shouldn't I be able to fix this little problem on a stock motor!!! I've got new rings going in, the heads are new from Aluminum Head Rebuilders in Portland. The pistons are in great shape, except for a little carbon build up on the top, and varnish on the bottom. But After I cleaned them, they looked basically brand new. I'll see if I can find the hoses for the PCV and hook everything up again. Someone got a diagram of how the PCV hoses are routed on an 84 EA81T?? I hooked up the turbo to the oiling system on the Brat, and spun it with a vacume, just so I could get a good visual of everything while it was working, no oil coming out where it's not suppose to, the turbo unit is off an EA82, Thanks Ed! I guess I'll jes get back to ya'll when it's all put back together, and let ya know how it is.
  8. I checked to see if it was throwing oil out of the turbo it's self. I pulled off the crossover pipe, and the smoke is comeing directly out of the heads, so it's not coming out of the exhaust side of the turbo. I also laid a piece of cheese cloth between the turbo unit and the metal intake tube, ran the engine for a few, at all boost levels and rpm up to 4500, pulled out the cheese cloth, no oil there. Are there oil galley's in the head that if there was a crack into that I can't see, can it be pumping oil into the engine?? If there is a crack then I guess I need to get on the horn with AHR!!!
  9. blueish white. Not coolant, not ATF or P/s fluid. I'm not loosing any of those. They've been full for the last 2 months. Haven't had to add a drop. I am loosing oil, and it's not leaking out.
  10. There aren't any emissions on it, no PCV or anything like that. No oil in the intake, anywhere. It's not like it's buring the oil, there aren't any signs of it on the pistions or sparkplugs, which usually foul up pretty bad when there is oil in the cylinders of any amount. Where did I put the new turbo? In the stock location.
  11. I think the first reply threw me off, You are talking about the pistion wrist pin right? If so you can make up your own tool to get them out. Whot you do is go to a home improvement store, and get one of those little butterfly things for putting hooks into dry wall. Then get a piece of all thread that will thread into it in place of the little rod that comes with it. Then you take the butterfly and put into the hole in the wrist pin, there is a ridge in the middle that it will lock into, then you can get pull it out. It is a little easier if you put a T handle on the end of rod.
  12. I've been haveing this awful problem with my EA81T smoking really bad out of the exhaust. Huge, thick clouds of smoke. I've done everything that I can think of to do. I replaced the heads, with brand new ones. Then I replaced the turbo, still smokes. Today I tore down the block, the rings, pistons and cylinder walls are all in excelent condition. There is no scoreing, scratches, everything is within round. I can't find anything wrong with the engine, nothing at all!!!!! WHOT ON EARTH CAN IT BE!!!!! I"m burning through at least 6 quarts of oil a week, sometimes more if I go out of town (out of town meaning the 10 miles to the next town).... AAAHHHH!!!!! I'm pulling my hair out here!!!!!
  13. Unless you add some good stuff to the water like dry ice!! Yes, I was talking of doing this. A buddy of mine has one on his Legacy and it rocks! So I figured if it's good for the Leg, then it should be good for me. It is a little more complicated than and air/air, so thats why most people don't use em, with the a/a all you have to do is put it on and cut a hole in the hood, good to go. Me on the other hand, I've got an 84 Turbo, and want to keep it looking as stock as possible, no matter whot I do to it undernieth the hood. If I have a big ol hole and scoop in the hood, too many people will get the idea that I actually have power and stuff, (cough cough).
  14. True that ATF isn't as good of a lubricant as regular oil. On the other hand, it does lubricate a lot better than those flushing agents that are out on the market, those are mostly kerosene. I know motor flush is one of the names. The have no lubrication properties, and they don't really clean anything at all. It is a must that you put on a new filter before and after you flush your engine, or like HS said, it will clog up your filter bad, then when your filter is clogged, the bypass will open and send that stuff straight to your bearings.
  15. I was looking for a Legacy Turbo, not too seriously into it at the moment, just mostly fishin for what I can find. It will be for a full drivetrain and powerplant swap.
  16. I've bout cars before that I was just going to turn around and sell. And the state only allows you to transfere so many cars a year or they put on a hefty fee if you go over that amount. I got tacked with it once cause I transfered 20 title in a course of like 8 months. They said that if I was going to go the route I was going, I should just shell out the bucks and get a dealer liscense. That for me though, some people, just don't want to cough up the money for a title transfer.
  17. Was wonderin if anyone knew where one could a JDM front clip for a car. I know some have gotten the whole front end of a car before. I'm kinda lookin for a place like that, need a motor tranny and all associated stuffs. Thanks.
  18. There's an ECS light!!!! Woah, wonder if mine works. I've done a lot of stuff to the motor that I'm sure would make it come on. Emissions type stuff. Or does the light only come on if there is something fatally wrong?!
  19. No engine oil for the motor flush. Straight ATF. I've done this many times. The first time I did straight ATF was on a motor I was getting ready to build up (so I was going to tear it down). Ran it for 30 minutes, at idle mind you, didn't stand on the gas and see how high it would rev or anything. When I tore the motor down it didn't have any gunk build up, like on the rocker shafts or lifters, the bearings looked like normal also, didn't wear them down, if you were wondering about that.
  20. Thank you Yeah, Tony flew through the gravel pile before Brian could get his camera up an ready. I have it on mine, and will get the video down to Brian to digitize by next week. I would like to get more footage of my Brat on the computer!! Hey, with video on the computer, I can really show, why, I HATE STRUTS!!!!!!!!!:madder:
  21. Are your sure your not in Oregon?? Or at least from Oregon, cause that is something that someone from round our parts would certainly do. Heck, we've already got a couple of rigs that are like that. Ones an UnHatched, and the others a Justy. That is some good work though, can't wait to see it in action!
  22. I'm going to be going with a set of seats from a Toyota Supra, they are about the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in. And they have power everything on the seats, really nice. And when I get done installing them, they will go all the way back to the back seat (I don't carry passengers in the rear anyways, it's a rear storage area), although I can't touch the pedals that far back, it will be pretty nice. Now I jes need to get the seats out of the Supra.
  23. Right on, that means that we have a guide in the area if we jump over the hill. I got to thinking, and a lot of our rigs are set up for sand use (specially the two guys outa Ashland) I haven't been to the dunes in a while, so I'm thinking a trip either to sand lake, christmas valley, or the coast would be a kewl trip. Sand makes for a very interesting experience, and way fun! I might have to change weekends though, I havent' been able to find out what my drill dates for next month are, and I'm hopeing that they aren't that weekend, but with my luck, and the way everything has gone for me as far as Soob runs in the past, it will turn out to be. Might push things back to the weekend after thanksgiving, maybe a Christmas tree run!?
  24. But a couple of those DO look like my Soob! I've liked your collection, was admiring it while I was up there. I saw the post my Mick not too long ago, about 5 minutes after the post, I was in Wal-mart, so now I have myself a mini monster Brat toy. I'm eventually going to paint one of them up to match mine! I've also got my "Baja" RC truck, thats pretty kewl too.
