  1. well my ea82t threw a rod through the block a couple days ago

I changed the oil fresh the night before and was on a 30 mile drive and I heard rattling noises from the engine and I pulled over and shut it off, checked the oil and it was full with fresh oil, started it back up and it had noisy rod knock!

tried getting it back home until the rod threw out the side of the block and left a trail of smoke down the highway

I only was able to drive it for a week before it exploded!

had 352,000 miles, didnt have a way to get it home so I had to leave it on the side of the road until the next day... damn CHP called a tower and it was towed to an impound who wanted 350$ to get my car with a blown engine out

I only paid 300$ for the car and got it running (timing belts done wrong) drove it for a week then BOOM and now its not even worth getting it out of impound

would of loved to drive that car some more :(

my plan was to put a new block in it but now WAY too expensive!

  2. well I actually had my mind set on a new block and then selling the car off cheap... but lastnight the car broke down on the side of a highway and I parked way off the road kinda in the country

went to tow it home this morning and it was gone, called 911 and it was towed to a local wrecking yard in the middle of the night... closed today and tomorrow, probably will be too much for me to even get it out... guess I just need to move on :(

  3. yea true, I love subarus but obviously the things people say about these engines are true...

I know the EJ series is nice, much more power and reliability, ive been into subarus since I could remember, my uncle had a 2000 2.5rs that he autocrossed and I loved the sound and the grip. this thing was so set up suspension wize it beat vettes on the courses!

so now that I have a license (couple years ago) I decided to get my first, but what do you expect for a 300 dollar subaru!

eventually ill buy myself a nice impreza that I could rallycross or something, as for this subaru I think im just going to part it out...

  4. wow what POS cars! it ran fine until it rattled apart! well lots of good parts I guess, dont have a place to do all that engine swap, piston and head swap work, I was hoping it would be a little simpler being the same engine and all,

I have full working digigauge and turbocharger, and everything else is on the car and works, anybody need something then e-mail me. looks like im buying a corolla:lol:

  5. well its ************ed!

failed smog at idle too many hydrocarbons

then I was on a little drive in order to get the timing light from my friend and then it started to make knocking noises (even though I changed the oil last night) I pulled over and found a spun rod bearing :( so I said whatever! and tried taking it home doing 45 mph and then BOOM smoke all down the highway and rods sticking out of my block!

theirs an NA EA82 at my local junker, could I throw the manifold and turbo onto that motor and call it good?

  6. well I had a hunch that I was overboosting, so what I did was bypass the factory boost controller and ran the wastegate directly into the turbo (which I read was 5 PSI) and now it runs good. It doesent rip the front tires up like it used to but now their is no more bucking and spitting!

    but now I have a new problem:eek:

when im boosting that measily 5 psi the check engine light will come on and cut the engines power in half, then it will go off and all power will return again? and my engine will get hot? any info on this? im going to pull codes tomorrow and see what its complaining about now.

also earlier today it sounded like I spun a rod bearing:confused: so I changed the oil for the first time with some 10w 40 and it seems to have gone away, but not completely, I am going in for smog tomorrow so any info on these two things would be great and if anyone has some special (passing california smog tricks) please enlighten me!

thanks again for all the replys!

  7. hello, thanks for the reply

well first off when I first got the car the owner told me it had been sitting for about 3 years and when I would let the fuel pump prime all I could smell was strong bad gas!

so I took the cover off the tank in the back where the floater sending unit it is and even after letting the tank drain after taking the pump off to replace cause it stopped working, I still noticed gas in the tank when I looked in from the top, and the only way I could flush it is by pressurizing the tank with an air nozzle and releasing it and it instantly blew the bad gas everywhere and after putting alot of fresh 91 in it started for the first time (last week) yesterday was the first day I actually drove it and the new fuel pump sounds like its going to moan itself to death lol.

to clean the tank if their is rust could I leave it in their? or am I SOL

  8. well its a gl10 ea82t and yes i guess I have a knock sensor and its attached... do not know my boost pressure yet, I just took it for another drive and it seems to cut at WOT in first so I let off, but when I eez the throttle it will boost a little then as rpm climbs it pops and bucks:confused:

also my fuel pump is brand new and its making a whining noise really loud all the time except when priming

  9. Hello I drove my 87 turbo gl for the first time today and everything seems to go well until I start to boost... it does ok at first until at full boost it pops and spits, it also has a brand new fuel pump and filter and the pump has a slightly higher flow rate and psi than stock... also previous owner took the guts out of an rx7 turbo2 turbocharger and fitted it into my turbo, do rx7 turbos have a different trim on the blades and maybe im boosting too much? any possible info on my situation would be great thanks!

  10. hello everyone I have an EA82t and I noticed when I first got it started it was shooting coolant out of the intake manifold toward the flywheel opening, so I looked at it and it looks to be a little-tiny freeze plug popped out because their is a freeze plug still in tact directly underneath the one that came out.

does anybody have any good advice on how to go about replacing this? their is no room for me to get a punch and hammer in their,

so any info would be wonderful, I would like to drive my new car for the first time lol

  11. hello, well I just recently got my first subaru running:banana: (87 gl10 turbo) right after the first start I noticed my coolant getting shot out of a hole on the backside of the intake manifold directly at the flywheel opening (where the timing marks are) can anyone explain where this coolant should passage to? could I just block it?

    any info would be great:)

  12. Thank you everybody for all of the replys!

when I did the timing belts I set the flywheel to the middle of those 3 marks, then set the driver side camshaft strait up and put the belt on, then spun the engine 360 degrees and set the passenger side cam strait up and put that belt on, so yes the dots on each of the camshaft pulleys are 180 degrees offset.

a couple weeks ago I set the distributor at cylinder 1 while the flywheel was at 0 degrees, today I took the top off the distributor while it was at 0 degrees and for some reason it had made its way almost 180 degrees off:confused: so I fixed it and im hoping that does the job, as far as the fusible links they look as if they have all been replaced from the previous owner.

  13. whats up all, I just purchased my first suby and im having some trouble with it and was wondering if anyone could give me their 2 cents.

basically I bought the car and the previous owner said it ran fine before one of the timing belts snapped, so he had the belts replaced and said it still wouldn't restart so he had it sitting for about 3 years at his house.

so I towed it to my auto shop and went to work on checking the camshaft alignment to the engine and found they replaced the belts according to the

0 degree mark on the flywheel not the 3 marks for the timing, so I fixed it and made sure the job was done correctly before I put the plastic covers back on.

the car also came with a lot of new parts, fuel filter, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, all new axle boots up front

then I went to work putting everything on the front of the engine (pumps, radiator, fans ECT...)

I now have everything on, engine timing and ignition timing are spot on, turns over nice and sounds good while cranking and ive also put a new fuel pump in it and I still can only get little kicks out of the engine not an actual start. I was also wondering if someone could tell me where the fuel pressure regulator is and if the main line coming out of the fuel filter should go right into it? because im under the impression the two lines are mixed up:confused:

also if anyone has some extra info they could share maybe im looking over something simple so any info would be great- Thanks
