Pillar trim fly away
l75eya replied to NocturneVoyager's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had a piece of the rear triangle trim around the fixed glass on the back of a sedan broken at the bottom so it would whap-whap-whap in the wind on the highway. I taped it a few times but eventually the tape would wear off. One of the times after it'd worn off, I was on the highway and that piece of trim just let go, heard it snap right off, saw it bouncing away in the mirror. Windy day that was. -
Woah! What the hell stripped them clear off?

Seems locked up in some way
l75eya replied to Liv3lif389's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Is it stuck in a gear? Does the car move if you try using the starter? Or does it just click? Jack the car up and see if the wheels'll turn. -
You said the engine was disassembled, are you sure the pump worked to begin with? Problem may not be related to the work you did at all.

Stub quit engaging after axel replacement
l75eya replied to Webster's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yup. It happens. My first clutch job, all by myself, I dropped the trans in a gravel driveway by myself. Had the flywheel machined, put the clutch in, put it all back together, clutch wouldn't disengage. I pulled that @$%& trans THREE times by myself to double, triple, and quadruple check everything, working only on weekends, ALL weekend. After like a month I tapped out and brought it to a shop. Wrong clutch. The part number on the box was right, my order was right, but the incorrect clutch was in the box. We all learn somehow. My lesson sucked rump roast and cost me $300 -
Tuesday Night Math Problem
l75eya replied to machthree2's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
3.7 and 3.9 are the only combinations they came in. A 3.7 dual range would be out of a real early turbo rx before the switched to full time and it would have 25 tooth stubs as opposed to the 3.9 that would have 23 most likely. -

Well it would shear the roll pin, but it sounds like you're confident it's not axle fitment. You'll know if it's a stripped hub if the axle nut is spinning. If the axle nut isn't spinning it's definitely on the stub side. Only thing I could think to try would be to swap axles left and right but it sounds like you def have an internal problem on the trans. -
Yes, the color is awesome.

You're absolutely positive the spline count is the same? I know the ea82 cars are 23 and 25 n/a and turbo cars respectively on the trans side. -
Very lucky no type of ignition occurred to the fuel vapors. Looks like your fuel tank ruptured, assuming those puddles on the ground are gasoline.
-
Bet it quit because the fuel pump got destroyed. Throw a fuel pump at it and it'd run again. Not that there'd be much of a point to that though. Wonder how well/not well it would go down the road. Looks like the rear end is skewed pretty good and pass wheel is pushed forward a good bit.

Wow... That's... I'm amazed you only sustained those minor injuries! Feel better, glad you are relatively unharmed. Is that the drivers seat I see almost all the way in the back of the car?!

This is my favorite flavor. Way to give Wagon Smurf a new lease on life! I remember the for sale ad and was so surprised nobody picked it up at first. I'm glad somebody with intentions to fix it up and use it got it. Can't beat the price! ;-)

Kindest regards to you, too, Jes. I hope all is well. And back on topic to the original poster, I echo the desire for pictures! A stock manual choke ea82, or is it an aftermarket setup? -
1984 GL sedan EA81 loses power. Please help!
l75eya replied to JFN1989's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I would throw new fuel filters on just because it's easy to do. Then I would put a Weber on it. It's probably the carburetor. -

Rude isn't quite the right word to use there, I think what Jes means to say is if the damage to the threads is too severe, you'll have to have them repaired at a shop. Just a friendly correction jeszek, your English is very good, "rude" just isn't the right adjective for that. :-) -

I got about 50k out of a set of belts that were run entirely with no covers on. So, they did break 10k premature, but it's up for debate as to what caused it. I still can't believe that we got the loyale with 51,051 miles on it only like 7 years ago and it now has 107k. Such a beast. -
Ea82 help. Motor overheated now ownt start
l75eya replied to Ashton70354's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You should take a picture of the camshaft sprocket for us to see the damage. Are you saying that there is no way to reinstall new timing belts? Camshafts don't really warp...there are many other things that would have happened way before you could have damaged a camshaft due to overheating. Things aren't really making sense here. You gotta start posting up some pictures. I can't imagine why you wouldn't be able to just throw some new timing belts on and fire it up. (though if you've got it opened up enough to get to the belts you should replace the tensioners and idler as well.) -

l75eya replied to Ashton70354's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well like I said take the covers off. If you're not comfotable doing that, then wait. You need to see if the belts are broken and, if not, that the two cam sprocket timing marks are 180* opposite. 12 and 6. -

And then again even if they are both turning, they might have jumped and the only reason it's not running is the timing is off.
