  1. Hook your own specific light up to that. Sometimes the signal doesn't get through. You'll think the car is running but it's not.
  2. Nothing stuck in your tire tread? Pebble, nail, etc.
  3. It just pulled 220 miles sipping only a quarter of a tank AND passed inspection (by the skin of its teeth)! I think "oldsy" has earned itself a tune-up and oil change. From what I've read and heard, the iron duke is an unkillable motor.
  4. I doubt there's frame damage there and if so, very minimal. If the roof is straight and the doors open and close as they should, I'd fix it, totaled or not. It puked it's oil because there filter punctured when the radiator got pushed into it. Get it home and get the bent panels taken off and go from there. Glad everybody was okay it seems! Sorry for the unfortunate event. That car looked like it was super mint.
  5. That motor should last you a very very long time. I imagine it's only got about 85k on it about now. :-)

  8. Could you kindly share what it was you did that fixed the temperature out the other vents? Also, the temp on the gauge is normal for these cars.
  9. There was no oil in the new filter after running the car? I would do as suggested above to narrow down the options. Despite it being a good amount of work to do so, I'd leave the oil filter off and tear out what needs to be out of the way to run the oil pump but itself with a drill. And wait to see oil pour out. If that doesn't spring you some oil then it's time to start backtracking. What an extremely weird problem. Let us know what you findout. Persevere.

  11. Photo dump! It's the beginning of the Autumn season and I took this nice October 3rd morning to drive up along the Hudson river to historic Palisades Inter-state Park, overlooking the Hudson valley and the George Washington bridge, the Bronx, and Harlem. This time of year (and winter, when snow is on the ground) are my favorite times to check out the scenery. Here are some shots of the Tin Can taking in the scenery.
  12. Is that gray 2 prong connection in the foreground a part of the maxima alt? All you need to do is connect the two spades in there and the one eyelet to that little studded post. That's it. I don't know which spade goes to which post but you'll know if you've got them backwards because your battery will run down over night of they're reversed.
  13. It grounds through the mount. There are three connections. The circle tipped wire goes to the small nut, and then the two spades you pull out of the original connector.
  14. Just plain steel rims? Id say a set with brand new tires on them would go for $100 - $150? That's my guess. They're a done a dozen at a junkyard and the only thing worth money is the tires.

  16. You might have trouble mounting it. It looks to me like the ears are wider on the later one.
  17. Have a friend put it I. fwd in 1st gear and let the clutch out. Take a look as the axle nuts on both front wheels.. Bet one of them is spinning.
  18. That's most likely not your transmission. Its the axle or the hub and tal relatively easily fixed.
  19. I wouldn't sweat it. Nothing catastrophic is going to occur. I'd also take this opportunity to get creative. Grab yourself 3 or 4 plastic bags, get some grease and some rags. Wipe down the joint as best you can, smear some grease all over it, wrap it up in the plastic bags fashioning your own fancy plastic bag boot and zip tie / duck-tape the hell out of it. I did that to a rear axle and it lasted me nearly 5,000 miles before it finally started to rip apart.
  20. check your tires. Swap your fronts to the rear. See if it goes away. Could be a bubble in the tread or something along those lines.
  21. Oof. What a laundry list. Man, this is a cluster though. So many variables. The running conditions, had the car been tuned up? Check your spark plugs to see if it's running rich. They'll be black and sooty. Do a compression test on the cylinders to rule out anything wrong with the head gaskets. The brakes, ... Sounds like a spring is broken. Are they rear drums or discs? Engine timing could be off. Make sure there are no vac leaks and all lines are connected.
  22. That's the best way to do it. Make sure to read jeszek's write-ups very carefully. He is very descriptive. Keep in mind that if you do the modifications to the rear end of your vehicle as described in that right up, it is going to jack up the rear of your car but NOT the front, so your car will be sitting rump roast up in the air. To level it out you will need to figure a way to raise the front of the vehicle 2" and there are various routes to take to do such a thing. Most simply is installing lift blocks in between the top of your front struts and their mounting point on the vehicle. Best of luck.
