  1. Even then, to swap in a five speed you would need to mix and match flywheels, clutch plates, and starters, no?
  2. You could list it on eBay and make your money back and then some just as is. You'll only notice the disadvantage of the four speed on the highway. Not geared too well for highway speeds, and that's where the 5 speed makes life easier (quieter?)
  3. .... Wow that's nice. The push bar, the topper, the lights, wow.... Personally, as mentioned above, I would restore it and leave it stock, as the value of these vehicles are steadily rising. If you want a brat for fun, get one that's not as.... Beautiful as that one.... But in the end it's your car (congrats BTW!) And you can do to it as you see fit. If you want to see a big reaction here, just drive it in to a wall. I'm pretty sure the gasps, curses, and tears will resound collectively and you might actually when hear us if you step outside and it's quiet enough. That being said! If you want a nice daily driver, I would check out the five speed swap above, it's pretty straightforward and that gearbox will make better use of the very limited power that motor puts out. The ej swap is a good thing to do as well. Those rims are gorgeous. Wow. Naturally it's impolite to ask, but if you'd care to share how many bills it cost there's plenty of curious minds. Even a ballpark would suffice. Welcome to our little secret cult.
  4. The screw that touches the throttle, back that off until it's no longer touching the throttle linkage. Then operate the linkage by hand once and when it springs back make sure it's fully closed. Note turn the throttle screw in until it makes contact with the plate. Once it makes contact, start the car. Your idle is so high because your throttle isn't closed completely I'll bet. Try running the car with your throttle cable disconnected from the carb.
  5. Got the GL pretty much entirely stripped. Engine out and shipped, trans out, door cards, speakers, relays, stereo, all stripped out. Just gotta snag the a/c lines and then it's off to that great junkyard in the sky for that poor sedan. Fun fact! The harness connector for the ashtray light and the trunk light are both wired and in place on the Loyale, though unused. I grabbed the trunk light and ashtray light out of my GL and swapped them in to my Loyale and it was a simple plug and play operation. You need the guide plate of the ashtray from the GL however, the Loyale one doesn't have the cut out for the light.
  6. On the spfi models the oxygen sensor wire ties into the wiring harness that sits on the front of the trans. Don't know if feedback carb vehicles have the same setup.
  7. I would fit the old pump back in again and see how the car runs at that point. If it returns to the original problems then you can narrow the new problems down to your new lines and their adaptations, and or the new fuel pump. If the car runs just like it did before the new pump I'd first try exchanging the new pump for a different one. And go from there.
  8. Awesome color. Nice find. You're saying it has 56 thousand right? Not 56 like 000056.
  9. My friend, this post is from 12 years ago. I don't think this person is going to reply.
  10. Girlfriend called today while i was at work saying the olds crapped out on her. Said she saw lots of smoke. Sounds like a coolant line ruptured. On my way to check it out now. Now she knows what it's like when that occurs. Scary looking but relatively harmless otherwise. I shall put new upper and lowers on it and she will be soaking up more miles before long.
  11. If I were you I'd read more in to the feedback carbs and see if it applies to you. I'm thinking possible the motor or exhaust isn't original to that car and it either had a spfi engine in it at one point or the exhaust from a spfi was put on it, and your running issues are unrelated. Again I'm not saying that's the case, just something to ponder.
  12. How far from the tank do you have this pump located? Definitely change the fuel filter. That should have been the first thing you tried as it's cheap to replace and super easy to get to. The typical go to fuel pump is the older 80s f150 pumps from the dual tank trucks.
  13. Gave the Maxima alternator something to challenge it with; Moved the XT fog lights from the GL to the Tin Can. Considering I spent so much time figuring out the wiring when I put it in the GL, thankfully the harnesses are the same in the Loyale and installation was pretty straightforward. Tin Can got some brights! And to round out the win win situation, the passenger side headlight seems to have fixed it's grounding issue on it's own! I'm so proud of it! Or maybe it was my fiddling with the harness under the dash? haha, who knows, all I care about is that I have four bright lights in the front of the car now
  14. I will check out the dremel I have at work. Didn't think of that. It does spin pretty fast. I had the circuit board off on the speedo side and the plastic cover off the front. I couldn't even manage to get the speedo needle off, though I didn't spend *too* much time looking. Maybe it's held in with a roll pin? Either way I put it all back together and gave up on the idea of taking it apart. I'll just run it up with something. 13k at 130mph shouldn't take too long, if the dremel spins fast enough to get the needle up around there.
  15. Any suggestions on running the old GL odometer *up* to match the loyale? I took it apart to see how easy or hard it would be to just swap the odometer assemblies, but it does not look like something simple. I could run it on a drill but that will probably take a week, I have to advance it some 13,xxx miles....=\ Naturally I could just throw it in as is, but if there's a way, I'd like to do so.
  16. Got the gauge cluster out of the GL. Guess I'll find out tomorrow for myself.
  17. I would like to swap the full gauge cluster (oil pressure, voltmeter, etc) from my 87 GL into my 93 Loyale. I'm wondering if the appropriate connections are still there in the dash for the additional gauges or if I'll have to run my own lines/grab certain plugs from the GL. I'm also curious of the speedometer will be accurate going from a 5 speed dual range car into a 5 speed front wheel drive car. Is 5spd fwd 3.9 final drive?
  18. Ooh I'm sorry, I didn't see you had answered that already! Good!
  19. It's turnable by hand but there is a lot of resistance. Enough that you'd probably be hurting your hand a bit to turn it, but I've done it.
  20. What moosens means is OOH MY GOD MAN, protect the chrome trim on the bed! :-P well, I do at least
  21. In the middle picture of the first post, it's clearly there. Can't see it in the later ones though. I wonder.
  22. The chrome bed trim! The tailgate! It's all perfect! Wow. You could sell those two things and make back what you paid for the truck!!
