  1. About to revert one PC to windows 7 so I was going through things to back up. Came across a bunch of pictures from various points while driving across the USA in my GL. Route 66. After this, I stood on a corner in Winslow, Arizona. =) Random model jet at this really...obscure, strange, creepy Flinstones recreation town. Somewhere's in AZ. This poor GL wagon was sitting next to the building at the Flinstones place. If anybody knows that place, somebody should go there and save this thing. I bet it's still there. Brown interior! This and the following few are at sunset in the Painted Desert. Hope you've enjoyed the pictures. I return this thread to the board now. Cheers.
  2. wow, bad accident? Got any pictures? Seems you are okay, so I would like to gawk. Our cars seem to fold pretty good when hit.
  3. Might be debris floating around in the idle circuit. Sometimes blocking it partially, sometimes not. I repeat; hit it with some carb cleaner.
  4. I think part of the reason cars don't have automatic seatbelts anymore is primarily due to the advances and overall lower cost of airbags. Remember, auto seatbelts were the option automakers chose between the two (air bag) because at least one was required and the belts were cheaper. I think when used with the lap belt they're just as safe. To keep this on topic, I added a spring return to my clutch fork and spring tension to the opening of my throttle on the Weber. Edit; typo. My car did not come equipped with a couch fork.
  5. I've always thought it's funny how split the opinions are/were on auto seat belts. Personally, I like them. Though, I did have a belt knock a cigarette out of my mouth and in to my lap. That was uncool. 93 Altima SE.
  6. Hit that carb with a can of carb cleaner. Read them instructions. Can't hurt.
  7. Swap your tires around. There could be a coincidental defect in one of the tires. That happened to me once. I put new tie-rods in and coincidentally the tire became damaged at the same time as the work. Formed a bubble on the tread. Drove for weeks with some seriously crazy vibration in the wheel after checking everything ten times over. Later on saw the bubble. New tire, no more shake. Also I'm here to help, not judge. I'm not banking on you not knowing the difference. I'm suggesting that maybe it could be something that you possibly have over-looked, as we all do sometimes let something obvious slip past us. No need to get defensive. And lastly, Anything is possible. Sure it could be far fetched, but if you start thinking that it is impossible, sometimes you will never figure out what the problem is because you just don't believe it could be that. Best of luck finding the issue. Be sure to post back with the cause to help others out if you do get it sorted.
  8. NOS Subaru XT fogs. Never installed. Just a quick test fit and look see Gonna check how they look up in front of the grille next, and then possibly where the current blinkers are (in which case I'd re-wire the running lights as blinkers)
  9. ***EDIT*** First picture of clutch discs was not described correctly. Okay, so here are the pictures. Cracked clutch fork. Different height clutch discs viewing raised portions (facing up) In the below picture, both clutch discs are laying flat on the ground. The raised portion that faces the pressure plate is on the ground. As you can see there is a height difference between the two. New on the left. Original on the right. They are not touching eachother. Another view. Haven't looked up this number yet. Shop finished work on the car. Aside from an occasional shudder, the car is great and the new transmission is fantastic. The shorter gears really help taking off, those first gear is over before you know it now lol. My advice to anybody else doing a similar job for the first time in the future. Make absolutely certain the parts are correct. EVEN IF the box says it's right. Compare. What a headache this was, I'm glad it's over. Thank you all, again, for all the input and suggestions and encouragement.
  10. Definitely not the engine missing and shaking the whole car, right?
  11. Maybe check your motor and transmission mounts? Kinda sounds like clutch chatter too, maybe your clutch is beginning to fail?
  12. I suggest you follow this link http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/149308-no-start-issues-for-1990-loyale-resolved-added-starter-relay/?fromsearch=1 I'm sure this method works so long as your ignition sends voltage to that small wire though.
  13. Aside from the hot wire and the ground wire, there is a little spade connector on the starter as well. Double check you hooked that spade terminal back up as leaving it disconnected will lead to this situation. Aside from the electric fan running. That shouldn't be running unless the engine is warm or the site conditioner is on. Edit: just noticed, non ac car
  14. Drove it. To all those aware of my plight, they know that this is an achievement.
  15. And despite that it was stated that this question is without regard for any liability from using said tires, can you imagine how screwed you would be if you got in to an accident involving a fatality with those tires installed? Sheesh. That would be very bad.
  16. You have an off road Subaru ghost. 1-800-GHOSTBUSTERS.
  17. Are you certain it's actually engaging, or is there a chance it could just be the light? This is a push button 4wd I'm assuming.
  18. This is inKIAredible. What a nightmare. What do the 22 splines mate with on the pass side hub? Is it like our Subarus, where the adore shaft goes right in to splines on the hub? If so and your going from 22 to 24 spine, won't you need also to replace the hub that side? Best luck jeszek.
  19. RockAuto sent me the wrong clutch. The 4wd clutch for an 87 GL is listed as an exedy part number 15008. The box I received from them was indeed a 15008. The friction disc included in that kit, however, is not the correct disc for the kit. In other words, the wrong box was in the wrong box. That's what led to me bashing my head against a wall and working 4 weekends all day taking my car apart and putting it back together and now having to shell out money to a mechanic. Unreal. If you look closely at the original friction disc that was in my car, and the one I got in the 15008 kit, there are small differences. Number one, the offset (raised portion) of the friction disc is different. The one from rock auto is higher. If you lay each clutch disc on the ground with the raised portion facing the ground so the friction material is in the air a little, the original one from my car will slide underneath the one from rock auto. Substantial difference. Also, despite the fact that the spline count was correct to fit on the input shaft, the clutch disc from rockauto does not slide smoothly over the input shaft. It is as if the diameter of the hole that the splines on the transmission slide through is the slightest bit smaller than the original clutch. This is why I had an absolute BEAR of a time getting the transmission mounted and unmounted. All these issues, coupled with my lack of experience for certain things to look for and to look at, led to the absolute worst nightmare I've ever had while wrenching on my car. And an expensive one. The nightmare is almost over. I'll update this once again with pictures probably tomorrow of the original parts and the wrong parts I got sent. I'd have taken pictures tonight, but my phone was dead. *le sigh*
  20. Car is in a shop with a relatively known and trusted mechanic. I say relatively because my car has seen a garage and so I don't know the mechanics around me very well. This guy is around the block from me and is an old school guy that definitely does know his stuff though. So long story short, yesterday he shows me the cracked and bent clutch fork. How I did not notice this is beyond me, but there it is. Cracked on each side. On my first go with the adjustment when I got the car buttoned up I wound up tightening the adjustment all the way eventually in my trials, so that's plausible. Today he calls and tells me I have the wrong clutch kit installed. I'm having a hard time comprehending this as that was one of the first things I double checked when I first had issues. The part number on the box is the same part number of the 4wd exedy clutch kit I ordered from rockauto. Could it be the wrong clutch placed in the right box? Who knows. I'm heading over to the shop to see what "differences" he's seeing between the clutch I put in and the original. At first he claimed it was a FWD clutch but I told him that was unlikely as I'm pretty sure the FWD trans has a different spline count on the input shaft than the 4wd ones, correct? The saga continues. 350 quote for removing and reinstalling the trans to install the other clutch fork and now an additional 305 for the "special order" proper clutch. Will update later.
  21. Or too much fuel. You're sure you're not flooding it out? Smell strong gas odor under the hood?
  22. I'm in. I've been hoping to find some local Subaru fanatics. Whatever it is I will be there with my GL.
