"why not use a home surround sound system subwoofer in my car." That's what I did! So long as you have an amp and a low pass filter on it, it works great. I have a polkaudio home theater 8" subwoofer and a car audio 12". They are both 4 ohms. Just make sure you disconnect all the old wiring from the woofer first and then run your own wires direct from sub to amp. My home audio subwoofer works out because I screwed my amp right on to it too.

Did Subaru use better paint on the GL?
l75eya replied to Rooasaurus Rex's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Would this explain why the silver paint on my 87 GL is a different shade of silver than is on our 93 Loyale? The 87 has more of a ..guess you can say darker tone to it than the Loyale. The Loyale looks like brushed aluminum practically. Both cars' paint is holding up nicely though, maybe the Loyale a little less (clearcoat is fading) -

thumping when on the gas or on the brake
l75eya replied to johnw's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Just because it's easy to do and it'll rule something out if this isn't it; Check your front brake caliper. Raise the car up, pop off the wheel and grab the caliper and see if it has any play. Take out the bottom (14 mm I believe) bolt and swing the caliper up and then slide it off the top bolt and then check that top bolt to make sure it is tight. Just a thought. -
Preparing the Loyale for RallyCross

AWD. 4WD. Sorry to be so P/C. =P -
Nice L. Tastefully modified, as well. Lotsa work into this one eh? What engine is in it a 1.8 or a 2.2? My brother has a 94 L FWD 5 speed all original (except snowflake rims) 235,000 miles on it and counting right now. That red beast has the 1.8. Apparently a lot of people seek those cars for their drivetrain as the ej18 and the front wheel drive/5 speed combination is hella rare.

Just curious, where is it you are located that has such strict inspection? I set my carbd gl to idle at 1k. 800 seems low to me let alone 700. The automatic loyale idles at about 900 in neutral. So strict!

Agreed. There is a wealth of information and help available on these forums and on youtube to work on these cars so if you take your time, use common sense, get creative when you have to, and follow the direction of others when you're not sure; you'll definitely get it done. From what I've heard, aside from getting everything disconnected under the hood, pulling the motor really isn't too involved. That wagon looks like it will clean up fairly nicely!

New KYB shocks in the rear; Car now looks lifted
l75eya replied to yblocker's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've read (on this board as a matter of fact) somewhere that KYB is phasing out the different designs between the 2wd and 4wd shocks and manufacturing the same shock absorber with the average of the difference in the perches on them. -
Wow...that's crazy! 4 cars? You could try getting Jalopnik on the case. They've recently been helping people recover a bunch of stolen vehicles as of late. Here's the latest car they helped recover. http://jalopnik.com/that-stolen-el-camino-has-been-found-1429493928 Jason Torchinsky is the dude that writes up the articles to help people out.

Thirded. Just did this to my gl a few months back. -
I have an extra dome light cover. Gotta find it. Nice wagon and especially nice rims!

He means try throwing the pass. Side axle over on the drivers side and put the drivers side axle on the passenger side. Then drive and see if the noise has switched sides. That way you'll know if it's the axle or not.

Wow dude, let him/her enjoy the cloud before you pop it man lol The whole reason behind all of that is because the motor in there (if it's original) is a turbocharged EA82 (EA82T) They are good, reliable engines so long as you keep it stock and you make sure it never, ever over-heats. If it does over-heat it is very prone to head-gasket failure. So my advice to you would be to go through every component of the cooling system and make sure it is in good shape. Put new radiator hoses, flush the coolant out and add new coolant, put a new water-pump in there, put a new thermostat and make sure the heater core isn't clogged. Keep that cooling system happy and you'll keep the engine happy and you'll never have any of the catastrophic failures that are common to these motors. Also, it looks like it's in great shape! Get us some shots of the interior and the engine bay!

From an '11 H6 Outback to this "new" hatch! 87' GL
l75eya replied to SnatchedHatch's topic in Members Rides
Nice hatch! Definitely not a beater. That's a classic car and you'll find that if you choose not to keep it for too long, there will definitely be somebody on here who will pay a nice bit of coin for it. Guaranteed.
