This is the wire I was hot-wiring: Blue wire connected via round white connecter. You can see the cut and stripped end leading to the compressor. Is this the correct wire?

Another successful install here. Why has this not been stickied yet? From the "What have you done to your subaru" thread: Maxima alternator. Pretty straightforward installation. Took a bit of creativity to get the pulleys off though, without an impact. Slightly disappointed, but at the same time impressed. I no longer have voltage drop when the bass hits through my system anymore, but I've noticed that my no load volt reading on the in dash voltmeter is lower now than it was with the original alt. Also, at idle with a full load (high beams, flashers, rear defroster, heater on full blast, interior lights on) my volt meter drops down to about 10 volts. My idle is high already, (1,000 rpm) so it's not that. Any ideas? So like I said, both good and bad things.

I will post a picture of the wire I applied 12v to. You mention it will engage with the engine off, how would I notice that? A noise to look for or anything?

Okay, apologies for bringing back a dead thread, but I've got an A/C pickle on my hands. I've followed all the advice in this thread for my 87 GL. I jumped each and every one of those sensors and my compressor still won't engage. With stock wiring when I attempt to use my A/C the engine revs up the instant I hit the A/C button. It runs at this elevated RPM for about five seconds before (I'm assuming) the sensor attached to the compressor (that reads those little clips that spin past it) tells the car the RPMS aren't matching (because the compressor clutch isn't engaging) and returns the car to it's normal idle. with all the sensors jumped the car maintains the high RPMs but the compressor still wasn't engaging. Even if I applied power directly to it from the battery. (+12v to the blue wired connector near the compressor) I assumed it was the compressor itself, so I took the time to swap in the known good working compressor sitting useless in the 93 Loyale with chopped up A/C lines. After the swap I repeated the process and the compressor STILL won't engage. I don't get it. It can't be because of a low or high pressure in the system because jumping those respective sensors should bypass those issues were they to exist and run the compressor regardless correct? I'm at a loss.

The 300 watt power rating is most likely the peak power rating the speakers are rated for. They usually have two ratings on them. Either way, take a look at the speakers in the car already. I'm guessing if they're stock they're Clarions. There should be an OHM rating on those speakers. If they are also 4 OHMs, you're good. Somebody else will probably chime in here knowing what OHMs the stock speakers are if you want to wait a bit.

You need a good breaker bar and a really long pipe on the end of it. I use a 24 " breaker bar and I put a 3 foot long piece of pipe over the end and that typically takes care of anything I've had trouble with (axle nut, crank bolt, etc) Get some good leverage and go to town. I just had an idea too, but wait for others to chime in on whether it's a good idea or a bad idea attach the breaker bar to the nut and lay the handle down horizontal toward the back of the car on a block of wood, maybe keep the handle as parallel as possible Hop in the car, throw it in reverse and gently back up a bit. Just a thought in my head. This could be genius or stupid. You decide. Good luck!

Where's the vid?

Nice follow-up. Just a cap huh? Crazy.

My 1 and only 0-60 run in my gl was 22 seconds. That was power-shifting through the gears too; gas pedal firmly held to the floor while clutching to the next gear. 22 seconds. lol gf/s SPFI 3 speed auto loyale did it in 16 seconds. Consistantly. I've checked it a few times.

Teach him to double clutch! Mine does that too, but not if I double clutch. Which means the syncs are going I guess. Going from first to second, clutch in, move shifter to neutral, clutch out, clutch in, move to 2nd, clutch out. No grinds.

Or loose.

That's not so bad, actually. Did you hit 77 mph in lo?
-
rdweninger's vehicle developed a freak coolant leak 5 seconds after this statement was made. JJ I've been dealing with almost an IDENTICAL problem with the Loyale for about ...a good year or so now. I just keep topping it up. I'd tear into it and reseal the water pump and all that, but the front end of the car got crunched about a year ago (not reason for leak. Had put a new water-pump in the very day before the crunch) and....well.... I don't think it's going to be particularly easy to get all that stuff apart and back in again

"Hookback" BRATS , did you guys get em ?

How 'bout that! Didn't notice it. How much longer are the beds in the longbed trucks than in the NA market? -

New caliper on the front driver's side. That, paired with the new axle; no more steering wheel shake. At all. How wonderful that is! Going to need a pass. side caliper as funds allow. The GL is coming along. It was falling apart as I was broke. Stuff still needed to do; Rear axles Transmission Clutch ball joints tie rods. Once that's all done, she should be tip top. Hopefully soon.

Thanks! Definitely driving mine that way now that I don't have to worry about breaking (another) axle. It's nice to be able to kinda keep up with traffic again. I'll trade you my trunk for your grill. Actually, no I won't. Should still give me your grill though. haha Ned's lookin' nice btw. Digging those rim+tires.

That's what it is then, though? Grip? Less slippage? -

I've gotten two radiators on ebay for >$50. SHIPPED. No problems with either one. Sidenote: Are you guys saying the auto tranny cars all came with two-row radiators?
