  1. I'd be interested in this as well. Could somebody post the nearest town to where it would take place? I'd like to get an idea on mileage. My limiting factor will be money...Glad it was post-poned of sorts, that gives me more time to make some extra dough. I'll keep my eye on this and let you all know!
  2. This. When I'm in the Loyale (Sedan. Has high top console. Guess it was an option?) I just flip up the lid and put a drink inside. It holds a variety of cups/mugs/cans very well.
  3. I account it to it just not being warmed up! I never drive the Loyale until it's at least a little warmed up because a.) I don't like the bogging and b.) I *hate* how much the car vibrates when you're at a stoplight and the engine is trying to idle at 2k but it's in drive so it's idling at 1500 rpms. My temp gauge had always stayed at 1/4 of the gauge. It would never go higher. I say had because she now has a restriction in cooling flow and a leak, a replaced radiator, no clutch fan, and an aftermarket cooling fan (all due to the front end accident) and now it is almost always at 1/4 of the gauge but sometimes will creep up to just over half. Best suggestion I can give is that you just wait at least a minute before driving after starting, and don't get into the accelerator hard at all until your temp gauge is at least above the "C".
  4. I don't know if my video camera will record long enough =P LOL That could be done. Hopefully I won't snap an axle..Last time I timed the Loyale it took about 15 seconds and the GL took 20. hahaha
  5. Thank-you sir. Ben may look like hell, but he is very well maintained. Regular 3k mile mobil 1 oil changes +filter. 10k mile tune-ups with nothing but name-brand (NGK, Mobil, etc) parts. NGK plugs. If anybody ever wants to take on the challenge of fixing him up, I'd be interested... I concur to more people making similar videos. Not only for comparison, but I (who doesn't?) love to see these cars in action.
  6. You can say I'm a mix of Rugby-subie and JJ. Most of the time I drive very casually, shifting religiously right at 3 grand. Sometimes I'm feeling for a spirited drive and I'll wind it out through the gears. I haven't been able to do that in awhile though as my front axles are close to falling apart and if I give it the beans in 1st or 2nd gear I will get terrible clicks of objection from them.... That said; I have noticed that 2nd 3rd and 4th the car really starts to pull around 3700 to 4800 RPMS. It feels like the nonexistant turbo in my car kicks in when the engine starts to hit that range. This naturally goes against the previous posts about where the cars torque and hp peaks are, but this is what I personally notice with my vehicle. Oh and listen to the others that say don't be afraid to wind it out. When you're loaded down and going up a hill, don't be afraid to wind that boxer up to it's redline. I've cruised at a steady 5200 rpm for almost an hour once. No objections. Smooth sailing.
  7. Ha! My turn at this fancy video sharing thing.

I want that quad-headlight set-up so bad!!! Nice wagon! If anybody ever wants to trade their quad DL set up for a normal set up from a GL, let me know! I'll deal with no headlights while parts ship out and in! haha
  9. I'd wedge something underneath the control arm too so there's no give when you're hitting the axle. Try to brace everything you can so nothing is going to move except that axle when it pops.
  10. LOL. I'm sure we've all gone through the trying to drive very very smoothly dance before.
  11. Haha, Don't you love that moment when you realize exactly what you did wrong too? Glad you got it figured out!
  12. Big difference when you get rid of that clutch fan. Much quieter. I think next time I'm out to the hooptie with my phone, I'll make up one of these too. Good idea!
  13. Haha! This is awesome. I'm allowed to say that because I did something similar driving around in the mountains in Utah by Bonneville.
  14. Bring any/every extra part you got, just in case. When I drove to NV last summer I had in the car -ALL of my tools -oil pump -water pump -timing belts -acc. belts -jack -jackstands -full spare tire under the hood -duct-tape -a ton of zip-ties I'm sure there's more, but you get my point. Bring more than what you think you'll need. I went through 3 quarts of oil in 7,000 miles btw.
  15. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=132536 The official 6-lug hub redrill thread. Read it. Learn it. Love it.
  16. I took over 1,200lbs across the country and back in my GL. Sedan. (Rated maximum load capacity of 860 lbs IIRC) Should have seen my rear shock absorbers when I changed them after getting back, they just fell apart.
  17. Yeah, I know what you mean. Usually when it's bad enough for me to lock the doors and wait inside for her to warm up, I'll start the car, let it creep up to 3k on it's own and then do what you said; kick the accelerator and she drops down to a more manageable 2-2300 rpms and then go inside. I really do think it's normal, we need more SPFI owners to post up their cold start experiences. The only difference I'm finding between your and my cars is that our never struggles to start. Whereas you were saying 90% of the time your car will start usually on the first turn, ours does 100% of the time...aside from that, sounds identical.
  18. I have a spare key for that. When it's real cold out and the car is parked nearby, I'll trudge out there, start her up, turn the heat on high, lock the doors and head back inside. Have a cup of coffee, head back out, nice and toasty low idling car. I always thought it was strange how you can "kick down" the SPFI car. When it's idling real high when you first start the car up, if you kick the pedal it will actually kick down to a lower rpm. It's odd.
  19. Got the GL washed. About time to get all that flood-water off. (splashed on from driving through massive lake intersections in Hoboken, not from being submerged.) Windshield is replaced, new windshield wipers installed. Inspected. Ben got some headlights last night, windshield wipers, and he as well has been inspected. He's still slowly leaking coolant, and he's due for an oil change soon. The GL is due for timing belts, an oil change, and possibly a new transmission soon =\
  20. Haha, my alternator is shot. Occasionally, with the draw from the amp in the trunk, with the bass up it will drop to 8 volts. Will be checking into the nissan alt swap soon, I foresee. Good luck with NED!
  21. Concerning the poster who can mold these; I would say there's a moderate community interest in them if you can produce them. As it seems, there is no way to get replacement ones other than from other cars, and that isn't easy to do. I myself would be interested in a complete set of these for one car, would you PM me shipping to 07087 if you do strip your car of them? They are pretty difficult to take off without damaging them as well, considering how old and brittle they are now. I believe there are four on each door trim (on a sedan) so that would be 16 from doors alone. Probably two or three for the fender/quarter panel trim pieces.
