do you know what all comes with the kit?
-
And I would also like to eventually go the EJ swap...so if the tranny and awd set up could all be used with both an ea81 and ej that would be great.

I currently have an 83 wagon with auto and FWD. I am wanting to go to a 5 speed first, then later 4wd. That being said, is there anyway i can use the 4wd 5 speed transmission in my FWD while i wait to get the 4wd parts? What parts would I need for the 5 speed swap? What parts would I need for the 4wd swap?

Whats the value of my Gl10 Wagon?

where did you see the low mile car in ohio at? what site? i guess it boils down to this... is it worth more to me to get this car in as good as condition as i can and sell it for a max value of maybe $2k and buy a higher mileage older subaru or am i better off keeping it and putting 250,000 miles on it myself. i know this thing will last forever if I keep the maintence up. That being said...I will have close to $800 in it i imagine when its all said and done. I got it for $500 plus 2 scrap escorts ,they were literally going to the scrap yard, but i had $0 in them. I am replacing some small maintence stuff like plug wires, distributer parts, and it looks like an alternator as well. -

the rust that is on the rockers is paint only, it is NOT through holes or anything of the sort. i would say its right at that stage where another hard winter of salt would start producing through holes. I am ok with fixing the rust that is on it without welding in new rockers...I just came from owning 3 escorts...have you ever seen how one of those rusts out? i live in rural ohio...whats an inspection? no echeck, no inspection, nothing here. If you look at the car you can tell it only has 35k on it, or someone has taken really good care of it. The rust is simply due to rough ohio winters, the amount of rust on it would indicate maybe 10 years of ohio winter driving. not 27. it is a 1983, automatic, ea81, FWD. i hate the tranny already, other then that i love it. the interior is a 9/10. the paint (beside the rust) is in great condition. when you pop the hood, besides a little bit of grime, it looks fantastic. If i had any indication that it was a 6 digit car i pry wouldnt of bought it. It is one of the best running care I have ever drove. That being said...I didnt think the value of these was really all that high. They are not common around here at all. In fact up until this car I have never seen any subaru around here older then a first generation outback or impreza. Welll I will continue on with my plan of doing the body work and getting the exterior sorted out. If I decide to modify the car come spring time maybe ill throw some pictures up and see if you guys think it is in too good of condition to mess with or if i should whip out the tube bender and tig welder and go crazy. -
The car has 39k on it. All original> I need to do some slight bondo work on the rocker panels and rear fender wheels. I am a person who cant leave anything stock. I love the fact that this car has such low mileage and will probably last me 15 years. Because of the low mileage im unsure if i want to tinker with it (like round headlight conversion, manual tranny/awd swap, etc.) so that being said...if i get the body work done and get this car to a 9 out of 10, what would it be worth?

looks like its paint code 393. 1982gl4, would my local shermin williams paint store be able to mix my color in aerosol like that? there is a decent autobody supply store that could pry do it, ill check them out too.
-
Does anyone know if there is a spot on the car to find the paint code? If i find the code, are the paints still available? I have to do some body work to my new car and would like to keep it as original as possible.

I can get local dyno runs done for $70 a run. -
83 EA81 gl wagon Lights seem to dim and brighten based one engine rpm, and all the warning lights on the right side of teh dash (brake, battery, parking brake) lights are on and dimming and brightening based on engine rpm Would this be the altenator or is there something else to check? I know i can take the altenator off and get it tested which is pry what i will do.

Ok so i picked her up today. Drove her 50 miles from Akron to town my family lives in and we work in. She has a stumble when taking off. When I first left Akron it was having some problems keeping speed on the hills on 76/224 out of Akron. After about 20 miles it was fine. After I went and seen my wife at work the stumble is back. I just ordered new fuel filter, distributer cap/rotor, and new plug wires. gonna start there and see how she runs. I know nothing about these cars...How hard are these plug wires to change? I cant see where they go! -
New here, I have searched some but havent found what I want. Basically...why switch to the weber..I imagine increased perfomance/reliability? What does it do to your MPG? How much HP increase can I expect? Am i better off buying a complete kit (seen them on ebay for $320) or piece a kit together? Thanks guys!

are these cars suppose to be really rough riding? i know its an 83 and shouldnt be as smooth as my saab or neon...but its almost as rough as my nissan 720 truck i had that was 5/7 static dropped. speaking of suspension..i cant find replacement coil springs..are they unavailable? -

im one of those guys who cant leave anything alone...its a sickness really, alot of people say i need help. i just got done building a hayabusa powered dragbike...full chrome moly chassis (frame not built by me)...i managed to gut the efi system and get the bike to run with no airbox, sensors, etc...it was a pain but worth it. the plan right now is to get it running right. it will be drove for a while..the plan was for me to get a beater until i get a job (going to school for phlebotomy) and get something else, but i wouldnt consider this car a beater. we shall see what happens with the swap stuff. im a mini truckin guy but dont really wanna lower or airbag this beast. dont know what direction it will take, its hard for me to mess with a low mile model like this. -

i couldnt find something definitive (but then again i didnt look to hard yet) but what motors swap in easily to this thing? what about AWD? -
Hello all, name is Aaron from Mansfield, OH. Just picked up a 83 GL 10 Wagon off craigslist...35,000 original miles. Needs some slight bodywork to get her back to mint. Seems to have a small stuttering problem. Dealership said it had original plugs/wires/cap/rotor/fuelfilter and that may be the problem. Got it for $500 plus to scrap escorts. I dont know much about the Subaru's, I have always been intrested in them. I stumbled into this car, it was not really what I was searching for but Im always up to trying something new. I got it after my wifes uncle recommended it, he had the same model only an 82 (even the same color) and got close to 300k on it. here she is, i pick her up tomorrow.
