Red dust means the spark is grounding out inside the disty. The dust is oxidized iron from the shaft/advance weights. If you look carefully,you will see small eroded areas. I would check plug wires,plug gaps,rotor and cap. Doublecheck the shaft play too. I see this most often on GM HEIs where the spark fires straight thru the rotor plastic.

Check fuel pressure and volume/sec.

Disty 180 degrees out?

EA-81 Turbo FF (Front engine,Front drive) I like the OBRUT.

Here are a couple of canidates. I`ve never seen this optional coil and igniter for ea-81s before. Anyone know what it is? Heavy duty transistor ignition? Capacitive discharge? Multi-spark? Part# 457296001 for 17,500 yen if I read correctly. Also the optional ea-81 limited slip differential. #722040000 for 68,000 yen.

Anybody have a factory skid plate?

I`d double check cam timing. Fuel pressure while driving too.

Assuming the timing belts are correctly installed,I suspect the ignition timing is incorrectly adjusted. Did you connect the timing connectors at the fiewall? Move the disty very much?

You got a 3/4 one for an 81 brat,not a 13/16 one for an 81 hatch.

Retarding timing excessively increases temps possibly making dieseling more likely. Idle speed too high will too.
