looking for an igniter for an '87 1800cc turbo
naru replied to chody555's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Save yourself some grief and get a coil and bracket from an 87 up SPFI.Exact same part as turbo. Seriously doubt a 2n3055 would work very well for very long,if at all. Might even draw too much current and damage the ECU. -
fuel pump control unit(relay)
naru replied to leuigirl's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
There is always a way. Is yours 83 or 85? EA-81 engine? How many wires on the FPCU? Own a meter? As you may know, this device is a little more complex than a simple relay. This is a dealer or junkyard part. In a pinch the FPCU can be bypassed but I would not reccomend it. -
Check for power at the coil w/key on. If good, check again while cranking.

Does the ea82 use this float needle?
naru replied to ferox's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You are welcome.Hope they have stock. P.S. According to the Walker catalog,Justy needle/seats are not the same as ea-82. -
Fuel delivery issues, loud fuel pump EA82T
naru replied to derburger's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
High pressure= bad reg or reg vacuum line, restricted return line or way wrong pump Low pressure= restricted filters, restricted or porous suction line, bad pump, bad pump voltage, restricted supply line, bad reg Tee the gauge in on the engine side of all filters.Make sure connections are VERY SECURE. Don`t want no flamethrower! Unless you have an electric one, tape the gauge OUTSIDE the windshield and try a heavy throttle run up a long hill. I wouldn`t blow back thru the tank filter. -

Not sure about the needle and seat, sorta doubt it. Have you tried here for a kit? They both list one. http://www.easternimports.com/catalog/detail/BA162-9599 and http://www.tomco-inc.com/CarbLookup.aspx -
No power at the coil? That makes it easier. If fuses 11&12 are both good,it has to be the white fusible link, ignition switch or wiring. Best way to check link and switch is to check for power on either side of the fuses.(11,12,key on)White link supplies power to both w/key on. Coil will power up w/o the ECU,just won`t ground and spark. Check fuses by ensuring power on both sides. You are getting close.

You`re right.My bad.Got lost in the maze!

Incorrect, look more carefully, fuse 11 also feeds pin 27 of the ECU.

All 3,actually.

Save yourself some time by checking fuel pressure. -
can i do a front/rear wheel alignment?
naru replied to bicycle_ben's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Like I said, not factory reccomended. You haven`t produced anything.Who is all talk? Quote me the FSM passage. -
SPFI right? In no paticular order: Fusible links, ignition switch, fuses 5&11,IG relay, wiring, and ECU for the sake of completeness. Probably fuses or links.

Specification yes,adjustment no! -

Only a couple? I think you forgot a few Mr. ASE. What about.... Unequal Steering axis inclination Unequal scrub radius Bad rear toe resulting in a thrust angle between front and rear "axles" Dragging brake Defective power steering rack? No camber or caster adjustments in the front No individual wheel caster adjustment, but adjusting front/rear ride heights unequally on a 4wd will alter caster collectively. -

Dunno what books you are looking at,but,it is not a procedure reccomended in any EA-81 FSM I`ve seen. EA-82 maybe? -

Not as part of any factory suggested procedure. No slots in either piece. -

Front toe-in is the only adjustment on an 81.Ride height too if 4wd. Easy to do at home w/a measuring tape and partner. -
Like this one? http://www.allspectrum.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=998&osCsid=db8c7a893a625efb48b7eb4563092414 or these? http://www.st.com/stonline/products/literature/ds/5288/bu941zt.htm

If it has numbers on it,should be easy to matchup at the electronics store.Even if it has no numbers,it shouldn`t be too difficult. I`m guessing it is a NPN about 10 amps,450V range.Probably low gain? Not sure exactly which Subes have them.Anything ea-82 w/an optical distributor,I think. No carburetted ones. Might find one on a different make junk car already mounted on a heat sink.

FYI,the power transistor momentarily connects the coil primary to ground upon receiving an ignition pulse from the ECU. Bad transistors can usually be detected w/the "diode check" function of a digital multimeter.Tap lightly on it while measuring.Bad ones normally have an open junction. If the coil mounts on the body, make sure it is well grounded to the engine. Your distributor seems OK ,as the ECU sees a CAS input and starts the fuel pump etc. 2nd possibilty is missing ignition pulses from the ECU to the power transistor.

Vent line from tank to cannister must be plugged or 2 way valve is stuck. Should be able to blow easily thru the line from the cannister to the tank w/fuel cap loose. Proper cap should have a vacuum relief valve to prevent this.

Over here,86 turbos don`t have optical distributors. Not sure if your car has one, but,it sounds like a problem w/the ignition amplifier. This is a power transister mounted on the coil bracket.Check the grounding of this component if you have one.
