  1. Thanks for the advice Rooster2, all of it gives me an idea of how to get started and what to expect. I looked it over a couple of days ago, and was suprised how little room there really is for it being a Subaru. 1 Lucky Texan: I keep forgetting about youtube. There have been some things I've looked for there, but keep forgetting to consider it as a resource. Thanks for the reminder. Again, thanks to all for the advice and thoughts.
  2. Thanks for all the advice. I have tried the search, just haven't found anything yet. Have tried search on spark plug, spark plug change, twin cam, cam spark change. Just haven't found anything, except the one I mentioned previously. Any suggestions on what else to try a search on, not looking for someone to do the search for me, just suggestions on what may work better.
  3. My friend has a '96 Outback Wagon with the 2.5 twin cam engine and needs to have the plugs changed. I found a post from Pooparu, but could not verify whether is '98 was a twin cam or not. Is the procedure to build the tools one piece at a time onto the spark plug (spark plug socket, extension, rachet) and then remove the tools one piece at a time in reverse order? Is there anything else needed, other than the socket, extension, and rachet? Thanks.
  4. Interesting, never would have guessed it was removable. I will have to look into that and find the bolts for it. How many bolts hold that piece in place? Also, thanks for the info on the driver's side cam, gives me some peace of mind that everything is how it's supposed to be. Thanks for the advice guys.
  5. I'm in the process of changing the timing belt on my 2000 Outback and have ran into two issues I am needing help with: 1. The belt tensioner is held in place with one bolt, that hole has been partially stripped out by the previous mechanical person. I would like to drill out the hole and put in a helicoil. Is this tapped hole blind or do I need to pay special attention with the chips to do my best to keep them from falling into the engine oil? 2. My other concern is with the driver's side cam and pulley. Before I took the idlers and belt off, I lined up the marks on the cam pulleys with marks on the cover and block, and the mark on the crank sprocket (round mark) with the mark directly above the sprocket. When I took the idlers and belt off, the driver's side pulley moved counterclockwise about 45 degrees. When I tried to move it back to the mark, it quickly moved past the mark and rested 45 degrees to the right of the mark. Is this normal? If so, how does one keep the pulley/cam shaft in place while putting the belt back on? All I have to say about this forum, is AWESOME! I have found so much info for my '88 wagon and the timing belt change out for my OB, I just want to thank all those that have contributed so far.
  6. Thanks for the reply. That was what I was thinking. Maybe some others can put there 2 cents in and confirm what we believe.
  7. I just purchased a 2000 outback and was looking at timing belt kits. Came across a kit for a 2000 legacy from one company due to their outback kit starting at 2001. My question is, engine wise, is there any difference between the outback and legacy from 2000 to 2004?
  8. The problem I want to address is the need for more braking power. I found a thread here that mentioned the 2000 Outbacks had smaller rotors than the 2001 and newer. The thread never mentioned whether I would need just the front brake parts, or both front and back. Just wanting to know if 2001 and newer Outbacks had all brakes increased in size or if it was just the fronts.
  9. I have found what I was wanting to know about the brakes on my newly purchased 2000 Outback. The question I have is: Do I need to obtain both front and back brake parts or just front brake parts? I have come across a 2002 Outback that has both front and back, just want to make sure before I take only the front and find out I should have taken both front and rear. Thanks.
