  1. 96 impreza outback, cheaper than dealing with the.. (I don't know what the piece is called that is the bolts that stick out to hold the wheel) and the race and bearings... and the entire assembly, he just put it on from another car that didn't work with antilock and that part I don't know what's called was out of it.. >.< so what is the best way of dealing with a grindy/dirty/worn bearings?
  2. so the car I got was worked on by some wacky mechanic the last guy payed (>.<) and I am needing some help with what to do about the assembly(s) of which he put the wrong one on. he told me that you cannot re-grease the wheel bearings inside the assembly and that it is cheaper to buy a junk yard assembly.. can anyone give me Any info on this, I've been going Crazy...
  3. dropped the transmission out the bottom the other day, got a new one... and now I'm just overhauling all the worn out stuff..
  4. I Like your thinking, thanks again jacob
  5. that does make sense, thank you... be the last thing I do if I have anything leftover, seems like it is the best gain for.. not soo much money Oh.. tuning.. do I need to retune the engine, electronically, to accommodate?
  6. Hey quick question, how much would a cam do without a free flowing exhaust?
  7. just meant like in the general range like an average or something, but I will call them thank you jacob
  8. this confused meee a lot.. just curious if I can use one different type on each side.. considering that's how it came and I don't have much extra money to replace it if I don't have to..
  9. it's awd.. the rear wheels do turn o.O anndd so even though they're different, still in good condition I can just reboot/clean/grease them and put them on anyway? won't make much of a difference one is bearing like and the other the tripod like..?
  10. this is what I thought... but I don't know, one does seem older... anyone else have any ideas? 96 impreza... if I have to get a new one I need to before I have to put a new transmission in..
  11. if I'm not mistaking.. the front right half axle was a ball.. rolling axle? and the front left an sfj(?) the point is they are two different kinds, is this good?
  12. Then cams sound like the best option considering it means I don't have to rip the whoole engine out (assuming.. that Is correct..) bout how much are they..? And yes the last owner was Not good with Any of the fluids... poor little car..
  13. 200$? I like the sound of that but first of all how could you only spend 200$ with the whole.. other engine part? otherwise this would be interesting if/when I needed to get a new engine but how hard is it on the car? also anyone run a dyno on that? I didn't think it made any sense but I thought I'd ask, I'm relatively literate car wise but.. well no expert.. how much would a ground cam set me back? and how hard would it be on the engine? would it be a generally bad idea to do this to a 2.2 with 209k on it? thanks guys, you've all already been a great deal of help ps, you said I should be more worried about keeping oil in it..? what do you mean by that? also, while on this topic, what kind of oil should I get? is it engine specific or just.. whatever is best based on location?
  14. trying to research the Frankenmotor.. as far as I can tell it's aa... bigger block? I couldn't find much on it google wise.. I think I may've sounded a little ambitious.. I'm not looking to get any major power like nitrous (Oh God DDDD:) or turbos, not to mention I don't think the rest of the car could handle it which = $$$$ I'm really just looking to squeeze some extra pounds of torque.. MaYbe 170 foot pounds.. just enough to give it that little pep.. basically the equivalent of a 0-60 in aboout.... 8 seconds? 7.5... friend of mine was worried that something like a performance cam could threaten the engines reliability by overextending the pistons and/or making it an interference engine... looking for some confirmation on this
  15. Got a lot closer to detailing my new (to me anyway) 96 impreza outback, naval jellied every immediate part under the dash (as in actually removed the bottom of the dash) almost done cleaning the gunk out of all the holes everywhere, vacuumed the living crap out of it and foamed the carpet, stripped the back, took the rear carpet out, tightened up this and that under the hood and changed the power steering fluid... car makeover... seriously it is a different car.. oh and.. got a battery holder.. thing...
  16. thank you guys, I like this information, I do like the idea of keeping the reliability of the engine.. first would a cam from them hold it's reliability oorr change it? and second a turbo is way out of my price range, in the short And long run also I'll keep the stock intake on, how about filters? kn reusable filters a good idea or should I stick to cheaper oem ones? in general, is there any way to get some extra power without ruining the integrity of the car?
  17. aren't we all these days? no, the guy I bought it from just said it didn't work and he... fricken.. gave it to me with the front right half axle.. Off the car.. so I need to put it back together to even know how it drives... I do know while the engine is running, when you put the clutch in all the way it makes a kind of.. brushing? sound... and that body hint is Awesome I like that, except you Cannot find subarus in junk yards.. >.< course that's probly a good sign.. considering you could probly Build an american car out of a junk yard..
  18. is there a k&n, or at least another Good company, cold air intake or even a nice performance intake that fits a 96 impreza outback? so a 2.2
  19. hhmm well the last guy to own it just kinda.. drove it... didn't take care of it, he said third gear just kind of stopped working.. not exactly willing to risk trying to rebuild it, I'm kinda on a budget...
  20. noo it's a five speed, that's interesting to know though.. knew about the non-interferance, loving that the timing belt has been done recently, not sure about the water pump... how much they usually run? thankya for thaat info, more's welcome
  21. just tore apart the inside of my 96 impreza outback, took almost every immediate thing off of the interior.. cleaning anndd fixing this and that... I'm a bit of a neat freak, Anyway I've got a bad transmission (though well taken care of, gone at past 200,000) going to be replacing that soon as I can, and the engine will probably be next but we'll try and keep that clean... so any wise words are Very welcome, I'd like to try and keep this thing as clean and smooth as I can....
