  1. Driving home from work tonight, I get off the highway and come to a stop at a light....look down and the RX is idling at 1700 rpms??? Still running great as usual, vacuum still at -18 like it always has been at idle, checked for vacuum leaks/disconnects anyways..nothing. Throttle cable isn't too tight at all, and throttle plate stop screw is right where it has always been. Couldn't find anything else, loose wires, bad connections, etc...So I turned the idle screw till it backed off to 900 (I know it hadn't moved since it was still painted in place). Computer isn't throwing any codes, and timing is still dead on and running great... Any ideas? Something going bad or gone bad that would cause that? Or just chaulk it up to the gremlins that live in my Subaru's, maybe it's ticked off I bought 2 more in the last few months.
  2. Bummer Shawn... Don't think I'll have the GL done enough to drive it there even though it's like 10mins. But have alot to do to it and not nearly enough time or cash. So chances are it will be the Fam in the RX again...unless someone needs some parts from me then it will be the wife's legacy. Have some spare EA82T parts laying around, A full 1988 2wd DL sedan (will be taking the full injection system off of it, radiator + some other parts, this is my old DL that a few of you saw at an 04' meet) if anyone needs anything off of that. Also Looking for some 15" Pugs if anyone has a source or some laying around. Parts by request only and gotta give me decent notice if it's off the DL so I can make time to pull it (car is still fully together and running).

  4. You know it does! I'm in the same boat here, so going to run into all the same problems +/- a few so I'm watching this all very closely, might have time to get it on in the next few weekends if I'm lucky.
  5. TA-DA! (Came today Woot!) Very nice looking work, looks like all the parts are there (better manual would be nice, as said earlier). Haven't even attempted to get the GL legal (damn oregon title) yet so not sure when I will actually do it. Gotta pull the engine and reseal + swap to EFI and a new clutch also. But might just call on your help Phil when it does come time or even for the EFI swap. Or the lift might just go on first and everything else can wait hehe...Looks good, Thanks Shady Edit: Wife had another surpise and managed to get the state to issue us a new title! Just a quick VIN inspection and that was it..should see the title in a few weeks!
  6. Well I haven't gotten mine yet... ???? :-\ but your starting to scare me a tinsy bit there Phil...sounds like you have had several issues, and few others have had issues also. Steering link doesn't sound good, and shouldn't have to modify anything on the lift (in my brain), should come ready to bolt in with all the correct parts. I was expecting the lift to bolt on with alittle fuss here and there, but was expecting the hardest part to be cutting and bashing the fenders for the tires..hope mine comes soon and without these problems. Any chance of a tracking number on mine Shady? Still can't wait to get it though, hope mine has all the correct parts needed. Sure it's not bad but I get frustrated fairly easyily...

  8. Ouch, everything survive the fall? Crunched a y-pipe once like that...but was my fault, and y-pipe landed on the jack that was sitting there. I always push on my cars now after putting them on jackstands before taking the tires off, I always learn the hard way :-\

  10. Well some of you might remember my 88' DL Sedan I had a year or so ago, sold it to my Brother-in-law for some cash to help build up the RX. Well since then it was sold again to my sister-in-law...and during the last year or so had one heck of 30-40k put on it between the two in the deep mountains of Colorado. It's now sitting in my driveway with a cracked head/blown head gasket...not to mention the oil cap got lost (blew oil through the whole intake/pcv) and got replaced with tin foil that got sucked in pieces into the engine.. :-\ Well long story short, she is going back to driving her legacy for a bit while she looks for a new car...and the DL is back in my hands (giving her some cash to help out with finding another car). Sad to say that it will become a parts car, as the EFI is bound for "Project Cheap" GL 4x4. So welcoming an old friend back...only to part it out and send the rest to the crusher. Kinda sad in a way, good thing roos always live on in other roos somehow.
  11. Welcome a-board fellow Colorado Roo owner, I'll take a few stabs at this, but am not good on the carbs as most people on this board... But sounds like your Choke might not be working correctly, and very possibly you might need a rebuild on the carb, and defintely get the air/fuel mixture tuned in for the higher elevation. You may just want to slap a correctly jetted Weber Carb on it...which you can search for on the board for info on that. Or even better do an EFI swap if your good with wiring/mechanics (that's what's going on my lifted GL sedan eventually, will be much better suited for elevation than any carb really). These cars tend to get pretty good gas mileage but you mentioned your's is lifted so what size tires/wheels are on it? And while running rich your going to eat gas like crazy pushing large tires around.
  12. Sounds good, marking it down on my calendar..... Hey Phil I know you just did the EFI swap...how was the carb that was on the wagon? I need a good one for the GL until I have the cash to do the EFI swap myself, and don't want to even attempt to rebuild it. Can't wait to see ya all again, Shawn what are the chances you are going to make it with the Vanaroo? Both my wife and I are dying to see it. --On a side note if the weather turns bad, or whatever...I live within 10 minutes of Bear Creek Lake and we could always come over to my place for a Soob-q (though I still haven't bought a grill yet)-- Also if anyone is coming in from far away and would rather stay the night before driving back home, I have a pretty large house with some extra rooms/couches for any Roo lover that might want to make the trip....just gotta put up with my wife, daughter, and of course me.
  13. Friday's or Saturday's work for me..Saturday would prob be best for everyone I imagine. Mid to late October works for me also. Will give me time to **maybe** get the GL lifted and partially done, but prob not. At least I should have enough time to fix my dead IC fan on the RX, think I will replace it with a EA82 radiator fan talk about some cooling power! Still interested to hear what Shawn has got up his sleeve for a big meet....

Yea not most places, and I won't be going with an M/T, don't even have M/T on my truck...run 33" BFG A/T's on that...You'll have to come out to the eastern slope and take a run with me out at C.O.R.E (http://www.coloradooffroadextreme.com/) and get in some mud etc...it's a huge rump roast 800 acre off-road park that opened not to long ago...my buddy who build's extreme 4x4's help build that place up and has already issued a challenge to bring "Project Cheap" and any other lifted Roo's that think they can handle it....Going to show him what a Subaru can do (though he knows, owned a stock hatch about 10 years ago). I want to go out there with as many lifted Roo's as I can find to come in the Spring/Summer of next year maybe. If I have "Project Cheap" ready by then.
  18. Looks to be about $42-$63 a tire at my (brother's) discount on those toyo's depending on size, now SingleTrack has got me in a debate though. If my GL doesn't have the guts to run bigger than 28",(and since he lives here in Colorado and makes the mountain climbs gotta think about what he is saying) than maybe I should just dump the whole 6 lug swap and just pick up some 14" or 15" Alloy Pugs to run them on. Would save me time and some cash....maybe..the US wheels are cheap also, and easily replaceable. Arrg too many decisions... Also not worried about the weber cause this thing is destined for an EFI swap, I can't stand Carbs unless it's a big 4 Barrel Edelbrock or Holley that I can work on, and even then much prefer FI.

  20. Is 28" the biggest you get could on your wagon, or just what fell in your lap? Starting to look at sizes, and searching the board..but you have the AA lift also, so curious how much space you have. I don't mind doing some hammering and trimming...was hoping for at least 29" or 30". Defintely looking into the 6 lug drill-out, just need to find a good cheap machine shop and see what they would charge me. Or I can try myself at my brother's/or GC4x4's shop, at least there is a drill press at both those places. Anyone seen the new off-road Toyo's? My brother is telling me that they are the goods and that's what I need to put on it. These ones, plus he can get me a decent deal on them. http://www.toyo.com/tires/tire_lines/off_road/opmt.html Will get the engine running good, and most likely do a EFI conversion on it down the road when I get some more cash. Maybe beef up the spark system and redo the cherry bomb exhaust...but probably not much else unless I find a good EJ22 donor..unless I need to. Also forgot to say that this will NOT be a daily driver unless one of the other Subes breaks down, and only till that got fixed. I will continue to drive the RX as my daily...just love it too much. Also this car will not have to pass any type of emissions ever like the rest of my cars that stay registered at the family's house in the mountains. So basically anything goes but still has to be able climb the mountains on the highway to get to the rocks and fun!
  21. Okay so my newly aquired 86' GL Sedan, D/R 5pd, Carb'd EA82 has become what my wife and I are calling "Project Cheap". Our goal is to get this thing totally legal (currently has an Oregan title that has been signed twice, but never switched to colorado title, and has been sitting for 3 years out here blah!), moderate 4" AA lift, 15" wheels & tires, and totally reliable & ready for 4wheeling for under $1500 total. Going to be hard but will manage with some major freebies from my friend at GroundControl4x4.com. With gas prices so high my Chevy truck is just too expensive to take camping/4-wheeling anymore. So this will not only be a thread for all you experts out there since I'm totally new to the lifted Roo world, but will also track my progress and pricing. So let's start: The day I bought it for $100, 161k miles threw a battery and a missing spark plug in and drove 2 blocks home. Replaced all the cooling hoses (free, all were in the trunk brand new), Replaced fuel filter (again in the trunk). Did a full oil change & tune up (roughly $50, mostly carb cleaner lol). Got a different Y-pipe for $30 (thanks XSNRG) to fix the major leaks that it had. Also add a Grille for $15, corner light out of my stash, RX hubcabs out of my stash, and of course a major inside cleaning. Ends up looking alot better, running a ton better, still idles rough, but only have 50 miles on it..and some bad gas that still needs to get run out/diluted more & more. Now I have a 4" moderate lift on order from AA...about $330-$350 Need to figure out if it's in the budget to get hubs drilled for 6 lug, or just drill out some chevy rims for 4 lug...Advice?? Need to do a couple CV's and rear disc conversion, there's a few hundred dollars.. Looking at just buying 5 cheap US Wheels 15x6 6x5.5 Rims for about $150, then trying to get some cheap decent tires from my brother's shop..any recommendation on the cheap side and size to run? Needs a clutch...happen to have one in my stash that's good, along with an almost full engine reseal kit. Need to fix a strange cooling problem, not losing coolant, thermostat working fine(new), but still climbs to 3/4 and sits there..radiator most likely so another $100. Friend is going to build it bumpers, skid plates, rockers for me since I host his website..so Freebies there! Will want to convert to LSD, few hundred there.... What am forgetting to make this thing trail ready and safe?? Total spent so far: $195 Money I know I need to spend: round $750 not including tires, hub/wheel drilling/cv axles, getting the damn thing legal. So close to a grand already and getting tight. I will be building this rig to make 100+ mile trips and then rock crawl with a few jeeps & scouts of my wife's family for camping..so gotta represent Roo power something fierce. So recommendations from all you experts on upgrades, how much things cost, tires & size, how to keep up in a fully independant suspension/lower HP car (only really crawled in my big rump roast chevy truck, the RX doesn't like to go 4-wheeling) etc... How many of you out there have a lifted EA82 Sedan?? I don't seem to come by them very much on the board.
  22. There has been quite a few of us mentioning another Colorado meet in the last months. So it's gotta be time...WCSS and Midwest are over with...so defintely time for another meet out here. I would love to have the GL lifted & finished by that time, since most of you have already seen my RX...but chances are I won't have that done for awhile. If it ends up being as small as the last few times I would be willing to offer up my new house for a Suba-cue (Meet/barbacue). My neighbors are all used to lots of Subaru's already... Oh and Jerry one of the biggest Subaru freaks showed up to the last one in a Toyota truck...cough cough..just giving you hell Shawn (would LOVE to see the Vana-Roo at this one if it's up to it). P.S. = All you Colorado and surrounding area Roo's don't forget about: RockyMountainRoos.net Built that just for all of us (considering there is a billion Roo's around here)
  23. Okay think I can come up with the cash before Sept 9th (even though I don't have the car legal yet) but you've sparked my interest enough now. You can put me down for a Moderate daily driver 4" lift for my 86' GL Sedan EA82 with Power Steering, 5 spd Dual Range MT. Now let's see a bunch more people so we can get this price even lower, will need cash for wheels/or drilled hubs too... (Phil, shall we put our lifts on together?...can probably borrow the brother's shop to do it easier).
  24. Right by the gas tank near the fuel pump as stated above, only FI Subes have the fuel filter in the engine compartment. Should be behind the passenger side rear tire up by the gas tank (or at least that's where it is on my 86' GL Sedan with a Carb).
