Possible Intercooler Temperature Thermometer
DrKrazy replied to Myxalplyx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
hmm for $15 it might be worth a shot, is a cool idea and looks like it can go 3 digits. Just because something wasn't designed for a particular use doesn't mean it might not work...I use that saying alot when talking about subarus. You would think it would have a manual inside the box that should state it's specs including temp range, but maybe not. -
Accident at Colorado Meet 1/22/04
DrKrazy replied to ShawnW's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
All I can say is that I'm super glad your okay Turbo, and I'm right down the road whenever you need help parting it out/getting you in another Subaru..etc. With the guys you have around you we can find another car and rebuild it if we have to. I'll send you a PM with my phone number, don't hesitate to use it. -
Indeed, was a great meet but I didn't get to witness the incident either since me, you and few others were ahead of it. I would like to see the pics also, and any pics from the meet at all send them to me so I can put them on the Rocky Mountain Roo's website with the very few my wife and I got. But I did have time to throw together this: Jan 22nd 2005 Movie

DOH! Was hoping to see the VanaRoo, that's it...I will find you one of these fridays (since I don't work friday's, and the company move is done now) and check it out. Just bring a big poster board with pictures of all your Roos and we will consider it okay Shawn...just can't park next to us.. just kidding. Getting really excited about it, this time I'm looking to actually talk to everyone (maybe exchange some phone numbers etc) and not watch over the daughter and wife. Trying for a babysitter and just bring the wife. She's just glad we are showing up in a better car this time.

Subiesport Mag 'old school' Project
DrKrazy replied to ricochet's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yep my vote is go for an RX, but of course I'm going to lean that way. RX sedan or coupe...but yes RX. If it can't be found (took me months to find mine) than an XT turbo. -
Well doubtful it's going to snow, since they are talking 70's possible for tomorrow. So guess it's show and shine then for Saturday...So who all is coming for sure? Just a few days away.....haven't talked about a place to eat yet either.. PS>I have made it offical and have started the process in creating a Rocky Mountain Roo's club...it all starts here: RockyMountainRoos.net (website is brand new, some people may not be able to get to it because of DNS propagation across the internet which can take up to 72 hours) The ball has started rolling..granted it's not much yet.

New guy from Colorado
DrKrazy replied to 1chewey1's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Welcome to the board! Bummer you'll miss the meet but glad you're here. -
Welcome! Another RX owner in Colorado! Woot! I would check the wires running to your alternator..then start disconnecting the alternator, starter, etc testing for the short each time. But I have been working 16-hour days for the last week so my advice might not be any good. I would go check Colorado Auto Parts or pull n save etc for the body parts you need. If you get running soon we are planning on having a Colorado meet here really soon, check in the meet & greet forum for it. Let me know if you ever need help with anything. There is several of us right around....
-
hmm thanks for pointing that out, I had checked it the best I knew how to by hooking it to vacuum to see how it worked and then decided to follow the little arrows that are on it (thought that meant flow direction) since I didn't really know what I was looking at. Thank god you guys are around to point that stuff out...lol now only if you were there when I installed it.

Just like the others said, Myxalplyx you rule man. I also agree that a fan on the IC would prob make a big difference while on the dyno, I have been experimenting with running mine in traffic/stoplights and it does make the car seem slightly beefer. You are defintely the man for showing us these dyno tests. It's great seeing these comparisons (I need to find an AWD dyno around here) I would pay decent cash for one of those pulley's, as I'm sure it at least helps with the engine being able to spin up a tad faster..and the bling alone is worth it. Can't wait to see the Techworks numbers, then maybe it will be time to buy..

Looks just like the one I bought for a Porsche 944/others Turbo. I plumbed mine alittle different. Mine works well and haven't had any problems at all. And guessing that saab one is the same (or close) bosch unit as the one I have. You can see how I plumbed mine here: http://subaru.kacsh.com/recirc.html They seem to be good little units.

Ouch I've seen some roasted clutches but wow...

Funny, I was hoping to see your wagon, need a lifted sube after (or during..) the RX rebuild. And I like the looks of yours + I have a secret fabricator of bumpers, cages, suspension etc..that wants to do work for us subaru 4x4 guys. Will let you all know more information after I rebuild his website again (hint current old site is at http://www.groundcontrol4x4.com end secret hint) His new site will show off his real work and just happens to be a good friend. I also want to see that Vana-Roo of Shawn's..and I know there is several members with new cars to see also. Oh and I'll bring my RX don't worry, but it's not nearly as nice as alot of the RX's out there. I still have lots of work to do, I just started with the drivetrain..still need seat fixing, rust, etc, etc....though your welcome to come by anytime only a couple hour drive Plus maybe Maxiumbrat will bring the RX sedan, I love the 4 doors RX's. (don't think I've even seen a picture of Maxium's yet)

Either one should be good, or later on if needed. On a side note since Myxalplyx let it out already, I have been building a message board off my website that specifically includes (and was kinda meant for) us Colorado and surrounding areas. Not taking away from here at all just our own "local" board. You can check it out (and register) at: http://subaru.kacsh.com or direct to the message board http://subaru.kacsh.com/forums/ If I get enough local and whoever folks using it I will register the rockymountainroos.net (or whatever we decide to name it) address and move/rebuild the board for that domain. It's Colorado don't you think it's time we had our own Subaru Club?

Looks good! I like the 4 door RX's but yea those are hard to find. -
An EA82T board I just found
DrKrazy replied to Myxalplyx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Haha well I'll take that as a compliment, still need to update alot more on there but there is that lazy factor...the picture on the main page is from the day after I bought my car. It's changed quite a bit since then.... Yea that looks fairly close to my intercooler. Mine came from a Toyota MR2 and most toyota IC's look like that. Mine had some different tubing coming off of it but I chopped it down to basically that. -

DrKrazy replied to Myxalplyx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ahhh..that board is unfinished (I work on it in my free time, and really just started on it) but it is functional...sometimes. Was originally supposed to be for the Colorado folks but since it's based off my RX build website, yea I choose it to be an RX/Ea82T board also. Not trying to take anything away from here (didn't even think anyone had been to my website yet), but some of us Colorado guys have been talking about making a club so I started working on it. Thanks for the promo though Have thought about registering for another domain name, since it falls under my kacsh.com domain at the moment but haven't gotten around to it. I'm embrassed now too, got to get to updating it more often now that I know someone actually saw it..there is more updates on my car on here than on my own website :-\ -
Started my MR2 IC Install+ Hood Scoop done now!
DrKrazy replied to DrKrazy's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Thanks guys, couldn't of done it with out all the information I got from you all. Much easier to look and see what someone has already done and worked for them...then copy it On a funny side note, I went into work today (yeah supposed to be on christmas/new years vacation this week, but hey my company is moving on the 7th and of course everything is behind and that means double time pay $$)...anyways back on track..they were testing the fire alarm system in the new building with those cans of smoke. So I buddied up to one of the guys, while he was testing the one in my new server room and asked if I could borrow him and that can for a minute. Took him out to my car and turned the IC fan on and told him to blow the smoke in the area of the scoop. The fan sucked ALL of the smoke right down through the scoop/IC and out the bottom of engine bay...wish I would've had a video camera. The fire system guy thought I was a little strange after I got all excited and did a little woot dance. Was a good way to actually see the flow of air into the scoop then into the IC. So can of smoke+hood scoop+IC fan=Good Entertainment I highly suggest it. -
Started my MR2 IC Install+ Hood Scoop done now!
DrKrazy replied to DrKrazy's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
If you listen closely, you do get a whoooosh, well more like a psssssht during shifts etc..but since it's all plumbed it's pretty quiet, and the turbo seems to keep spooling a tad which drowns it out also..If you have the IC Fan on you can't hear it, but I doubt I will run the IC Fan except while sitting in traffic and on hot days. -
Started my MR2 IC Install+ Hood Scoop done now!
DrKrazy replied to DrKrazy's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Ok I lied I wasn't done yet, I had to plumb in the Porsche recirc valve and wire up the fan to a relay and install a switch for it. Did that all today, with another quick oil change (almost 500 miles since I put the motor in), and had time for a nice test drive. Big difference, no more stumbling when it shifts, seems to keep the turbo spooling better, so much happier now..didn't notice any problems at all. Since I love to post pics here are a few more (even more in my gallery again): Think I can now say I'm done with the intercooler/hood scoop/recirc valve till I come up with the cash to replace all the hoses with silicone, and get the car repainted. -

DrKrazy replied to DrKrazy's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Well got some use of some christmas presents today (new saw, drill bit set) and went to work on the hood scoop. I didn't trust the double sided tape at all so I went ahead and set it up for a 4 screw down thing also. Also heeding your advice Caleb I glued the metal screen in a thousand times better than what it was out of the box. it won't be coming out of mine. I went ahead and painted it white (not the white of my car, but whatever will get repainted when the car does or I can pull it back off). I remade a new bracket for the IC to make it sit level and then ended up using some door jam rubber I bought at the local auto parts store to make it seal up against the IC, and it actually worked well to my surpise. I got the electric fan mounted underneath it but not wired up, not sure if I want to keep this particular fan. Since I have the rest of the week off..much more projects to go..but here is some more pics for you guys (more in my gallery):
