  1. Well my JDM motor got here on friday afternoon after the little mix-up. I tore it completely down to the long block (and a little farther, cam covers, oil pan, water pump, oil pump, etc) and started building it back up with new parts. I tell ya the inside of this 30k-40k motor is super clean and in amazing shape! Well added my secret HP gaining bonus of some flashy super high temp engine paint, good for at least 30hp right? And after a couple days of replacing seals & gaskets, oil pump (old oil filter is good hand hold while painting an oil pump), water pump, painting then repainting, etc I haven't gotten very far but the RX is already drooling and can't wait to get that 200k motor out of it. Another couple weekends of building up and I'll be slamming her in. Anyhow had to show off the longblock paint job (to think I almost painted it white to match the car until I remembered, oh yeah it's a Sube motor..white=bad idea) The secret HP bonus is beer, carb cleaner, and lots of paint in a garage for a weekend! At least makes you feel like your going faster or passing out...then you stand back and say damn I really didn't get much done.
  2. Aye my eyes are fully tuned to this thread, will be good info while building this new motor for the RX. And thanks to all you guys for testing the mods for the rest of us!
  3. More info: Motor was destined for Colorado Springs, won't sell it to me but would sell me one for $1800(supposed discount for screw-up too)..ouch. They are picking it up in an hour to take to the rightful owner..Printing out alittle USMB flyer to stick in the pallet with it (haha, oh not sure how that got there ).
  4. Haha well I ordered a JDM motor to start building for the RX. Shows up this morning...whoa that's not the EA82T I ordered that's an EJ20T Hmm damn how tempting is that?...too bad there is no ECU or I might not have said anything. Nice thing though..have another one on the way today to me, always nice when a company can admit a mistake and make it right that quick without hassle. Was half tempted not to say anything though...still thinking about calling him back and see if they will break me a super deal on it since they screwed up. Ahh too poor for that project..
  5. That does sound awfully strange. Question: during the tune-up did you replace the cap & rotor? If so did you make sure they were the EXACT same as the ones that came off your car? This is a known problem as in getting the wrong parts for the cap & rotor, normally they won't even fit but I think there is a few that interchange and might possible work but don't quite make contact as good as what they should. Just a thought, I know I've battled with getting the right cap & rotor a few different times.
  6. Tune it up..oil change, plugs(NGK!!), cap, rotor, wires, pcv, air filter, fuel filter, etc..if doesn't go away then start trouble shooting. I always slam all that stuff into a car when I buy one. More than likely after a good $100 tune-up it will prob run way better and those problems will go away. If not at least you know you have a full fresh tune up on it and can start looking at other problems. Or at least that's the way I start when I get a new Suby.
  7. THAT is GREAT!! Oh yes the part I like the most ==> IC with no hood scoop..thank you SO much for showing me that picture...now only if I could get some more details on how they pulled that off and if it works good. The inner hood skin and fans defintely give me the general idea..maybe the RX won't have to get a hole cut after all!
  8. To each his own...I 've driven them all but specifically sought after an RX for months, and love it. All though I actually liked the Turbo XT's (came real close to buying one before the recent RX) a bit more than the XT6's. Might just be the whole Turbo thing though..
  9. Ugh..damn that pic hurts bad, was my next in line upgrade now story has changed and new engine to start then all upgrades. But glad you have first shot at em, I want to know how they truly perform and how much of a pain they might be to get on and work around (if any). So make sure you let us all know!
  10. Chances are you need to put new seals on your camshafts and crankshaft, an oil pump reseal might be necessary also. If you take the time and pull off your timing covers it should make itself fairly seen where it's coming from. All typical oil leaks that can be dealt with easily, do yourself a favor and change up your timing belts at the same time if needed (even if not needed to save hassle later).
  11. Thanks will start making some calls tomorrow on Monday! And yes have been looking around locally just haven't found any that stock any pre EJ motors.
  12. Ok tried searching a bit but nothing came up quickly so here it goes..anyone have a source for JDM motors except ebay? Need to replace the unknown mileage EA82T in the RX, will buy off Ebay if I have to but seeing if you guys have a direct source first.
  13. Nice new driver there Shawn! Can't wait to see the new Vana-RU too..we gotta get together soon and show off the new cars.
  14. Well got access to a bay at the brother's shop today to take the new RX in for a healthy seal replacement, timing belts, tune-up, hoses, major work over. Got it up on the rack noticed it needs ball joints up front (Brother failed to mention that on first inspection)..and then immediatly notice a nice little green droplet forming on the bolt for the exhaust on the passenger side head! Ah hell my day is just getting better and better. Let it down and get out the pressure tester..sure as as heck starts very slowly losing pressure and drips from that bolt. So either head gasket or cracked head, but exhaust bolt is also stripped. Well pack back up all the parts..those can be saved for the soon to come JDM engine that is now a must. And a lesson learned that no matter how good of a mechanic your brother is do the testing yourself before buying a ton of parts..he owes me a six pack now.
  15. Aye sounds like timing belts and a good score! If you part it out by all means I have a list already made of stuff I need for mine.
  16. Who cares really those vans are awesome even with some rust, and add some Subaru power to it and it's a kick rump roast van! Hope you get it I will be jealous.
  17. Is that 2.2 powered one that has been for sale out of Boulder I think (know I saw it somewhere)? Sounded kick-rump roast..
  18. Well had to say bye to the 88 DL today, had people knocking me over to buy it the day after I said I would sell it..Brother in law came and picked it up tonight. Had her for such a small time and already miss her. Good thing is the wife is happy that we are back down to 3 cars and there is a good chunk of cash in my pocket (to spend on the RX) + brother in law services for rust/paint..So sorry to lose my 2wd DL sedan but so happy to gain my RX in it's place, still hate to make choices though. Also means the fun tear down for oil pump, timing belts, seals, water pump, etc, etc hopefully gets done this weekend on the RX. Hmm empty parking spot...as I get hit from behind with a frying pan!
  19. Can put me down for a DP and Header, I will find a way to come up with cash for them asap. The RX is dying for em!
  20. Haven't looked on my RX yet but on the 88 DL it's under/behind the front bumper on the driver's side (noticed it when I changed the bumper). Which prob means it's a pain in the rump roast to get to on the RX.
  21. Wow for 1970 that's SWEET! I want one.
  22. I only know of one wagon that could be considered an RX and that was made by WJM (One kick-rump roast wagon too). Subaru themselves never actually made an RX wagon. They are rare and a bit hard to find but if you keep your eyes open you will find one. Took me about 6months of looking and I ended up spending $840, granted mine needs some work. Think there is one for sale in NV in the marketplace still, don't take my word for it though.
