Hey gang, did the 81 or earlier Brat come with two radiator fans? Mine cam second hand with only one. I grabbed a gen 2 fan from the pick n pull, but now it looks like the radiator doesn't have the holes to mount it, nor do I see a free plug.

But while I'm at it, on the subject of harnesses, has anyone fitted one to a brat? I'm wondering if anyone has put in a custom harness bar or just attached it directly to the back wall?

Before I tear out my dash (which will probably happen eventually, anyway), I wanted to see if anyone has seen these electrical gremlins before: 1. With headlights on, switching on the turn signal, lef or right, illuminates both left and right (like hazards) 2. The tach seems to bounce along with the turn signal when it's on thanks!

Asked this in the 80s tech section, but now that I look I think this is a more appropriate place. Browsing the local pick-n-pull, I found an 86 GL turbo hatch with power steering. Will the pump/lines/rack swap easily into my 81 Brat, or will I need to modify/swap the cross member?

Hi, I just got an 81 Brat and hope to do some rally-x time in it (I used a GC a few years ago). I'm curious if any of you first genners have tried to switch in aftermarket or more firmly bolstered oem seats. Post pics if you have! Edit: ok, now that this has been moved to the retrofitting forum, I see the question has already been asked and addressed. Carry on!

Much obliged, thanks!

Here is a pic of my PCV setup: I think I have it correct, with the 1/4" line separating the two sides. However, I have noticed that air is coming OUT of the filter connection, rather than going in. I checked ye olde Haynes manual, and the air flow direction definitely looks like it should be going INto the valve covers and PCV valve. Did I do it right?

I just got a weber carb with manual choke. I'm new to carburetors and chokes. I've noticed that I cannot get the choke to close unless the throttle is opened slightly first. Is this part of the intended design, or do I need to adjust something?

Weber carb question specific to 81 Brat

Thanks for the detailed explanation about the EGR. I would have thought that vapor recovery helps mpg by using the gas vapors for combustion rather than simply letting them vent to the atmosphere? -
Weber carb question specific to 81 Brat

I could, but I'm trying to minimize gas smell/maximize vapor recovery/prevent vapor lock. I don't know much about the egr system, but I hear that it helps reduce cylinder temps, which is good. When I pulled mine there was a block plate already in place, and the valve was completely clogged; but I managed to clean it up with a soak in simple green and a lot of elbow grease. Maybe later on I'll try blocking it withthe weber on and see if I can tell a difference. -
I just got here in february (I live on the NE side). I actually just bought an 81 brat at the end of may and carted it down here from colorAdo, but this is my third subaru.

Update: I can go up hills! Thanks, Weber!

Anyone? Where did you hook up your vapor recovery? -

Ok, I found an 86 GL hatch with power steering. Is that going to fit onto the brat? -

I've read that thread a few times now, and I can't pinpoint where they talk about the vapor recovery line. Could you please point it out? -
Weber carb question specific to 81 Brat
Lachlan posted a topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I am working on putting in my 32/36 DGV. I've been able to find most hook-up info via the search button, but there's one thing I can't figure out. On the 81 Brat's EA81 there is no fuel return line to the carb, so no problem there. There is, however, a vapor recovery line that goes to the canister. On the weber, there is one (obvious) fuel-in line, but there are two plugged orifices nearby; one directly opposite fuel-in, and one around the corner. Which one of these ought to be used for vapor recovery, or does it matter? -
81 Brat, in a kind of light blue 1. Driver side fender 2. front chrome bumper 3. That strip of chrome that goes along the bottom of the car on the driver's side 4. passenger side mirror 5. a few of those little snaps that go around the bed, most likely for some sort of cover 6. Both handle bars for the seats in the bed 7. Antenna 8. Power steering system 9. Jack More to come...thanks for looking!

i have an 81 brat. I was checking the local pick-n-pull, and they have an 82 brat, as well as many other 2d gen cars, but nothing first gen. would the 2d gen brat a/c slide into the 1st gen body (w/ ea81)? Same question for p/s, if I can find it anywhere.

So the only line I could find going back to the fuel tank comes out of the canister. I teed the vapor separator into it, and managed to fill the canister with gas. Think I did something wrong there...
-
Thanks. I haven't discovered the fuel return line yet. I'll have a look around for it.
