  1. @GeneralDisorder, those head gasket part numbers, are they Subaru part numbers? Guess what's leaking on our liberty that had it's HGs replaced early last year?? Cheers Bennie
  2. As John said - you need the cam and crank gears from your original engine. They'll have different marks on them for the timing of spark and ignition. Swap over and set the cam belt timing correctly should see it fire up. Another thing to check first is all of your plug connections ensuring the cam and crank angle sensors are properly connected (and sensors mounted properly). Cheers Bennie
  3. That top pulley is a tensioner. You can see how it zig zags over/around the alternator's fan belt. Best of luck with it. I reckon you'll find one after a bit of searching. A tensioner pulley from an MY with AC will fit Cheers Bennie
  4. I've been told the pt4wd ea81 4spd is a nightmare level or two above the pt4wd ea82 5spd... The AWD boxes are so much easier to work on Cheers Bennie
  5. Ausubaru only works for me with modzilla or an old version of internet explorer. Everything else returns a raw data error code :/ Gannon, going for a spider manifold on what? Cheers Bennie
  6. Agreed with GD. Pull the input shaft without splitting the box will result in the little pressed metal plate falling into the gearbox. Cheers Bennie
  7. If a valve is stuck you've probably got a bent pushrod. I reckon you might have a dead spark plug at idle. How much shaft play do you have in the dizzy's rotor shaft? Points or electronic module? Cheers Bennie
  8. Gear ratios are a lot like fractions/imperial sizes. from memory driven gear divided by drive gear. First should be 3.454:1 - it's been a few years since I've looked into it so that could be wrong (so it'll be 3.545 if I'm wrong above). have fun. I love working on/with gearboxes. Cheers Bennie
  9. Any updates on this - was it the fuel tanks being the issue? Cheers Bennie
  10. That PVC board looks sweet! Where would one look for a product like that?? (I'm going to have to work out where to find it in Oz) Cheers Bennie
  11. From what I remember there are two different lengths for the EA82 cam cover bolts. The shorter of the two should work if I've remembered correctly. Cheers Bennie
  12. Usually one up front and one out the back under the tray. Stick with it. These are great runners once sorted. It does seem like a carb problem and I'd also check the distributor shaft play as suggested by GD (bush replacement in dizzy). All the best with it! Cheers Bennie PS: it could also be a weak fuel pump too.
  13. Geez that rear glass swap would've been a nerve wracking delicate operation! Has your heart rate dropped yet? Cheers Bennie
  14. Have the fusible links been replaced yet? They're that old it would be work replacing them just to rule them out. Cheers Bennie
  15. That seems better Use the direct link and the codes for posting an image: img direct link /img <- put square open and close brackets around the two img codes and your image will be displayed Cheers Bennie
  16. Dual and single range are both the same dimensions, so no difference in fitment Cheers Bennie
  17. Good luck without destroying them at this age! Have a new set on hand if you're going to try and remove your ones. Cheers Bennie
  18. Roger that. Makes sense now Not fun I bet! OP - hang out for a dual range box - unless that's a single range AWD box and you don't need low range. Cheers Bennie
  19. There should be a small dowel or two to stop the pressure plate from moving like that carfreak. Cheers Bennie
  20. Yeah after re-reading your posts I'm not sure where I pulled that from either :/ Glad it's AWD, only way to go in the snow IMO - and yes, Australia gets snow (yet some still don't know this fact!) in a very small area - and I've had the pleasure of driving on it in my L (locked in 4wd), it was awesome. No salt on our roads due to the fragile alpine environment. I hope it serves your daughter well for many years to come Cheers Bennie
  21. We picked up a liberty over here on an ebay auction for just over $1G with a "blown head gasket". Got it home, topped up the coolant, threw a battery in it and took it for a drive down the road and back again. Found a green fountain shooting across the engine from the upper radiator pipe. Replaced it and off we went without any issues Cheers Bennie
  22. My Brumby's power steering came from an '84 touring wagon - has a rag joint and a Uni joint. Same for our other converted brumby. Both have rag joints. Yours hasn't been swapped for another double Uni joint unit in it's life?? Cheers Bennie
  23. And mod the radiator to take the larger hoses of the EJ - and make the rad pipes a bit more hose friendly with an angle added to them to "point" towards the engine outlets. And make/source the adaptor plate or fit the AWD box (can be a good mod in Oz since we get the dual range setup). Cheers Bennie
  24. Copper core plugs such as NGK will be fine. I totally forgot about swapping mine on the 22 for ages - as in 100k km ages. No running issues what so ever - but I may have worked the coil pack harder as the gap increased. For a sale I'd do a set of decent quality plugs over a set of expnsice plugs - and have the old ones on hand for viewing if asked about. Some potential buyers may be suss as to why spark plugs and oil are changed just before a sale. Personally I prefer to see oil mid way through the interval change period to get an idea of the rings' condition etc. Cheers Bennie
