Peek in the Attic Subaru Brat build
Legacy RallyGuy replied to doughildreth's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Very nice! I'm still on the lookout for two more jackson 14" rims -
Hey! That's great news! Hope everything is going well for you and yours! I so wish I could have gone out there last year. I ended up having to work much later in 2012 and spending a lot more time in Arizona than intended before moving to Ireland. I'm in the process of getting my coupe back together... I'll need these parts to get the next step at the body shop done... 1. Roofskin 2. Windshield 3. Hood 4. Front Fenders aren't necessary, but would be nice to have too. feel free to pm me a price + shipping to Macon, MO 63552 -Ken (Oh and my phone number you had wont work, I'm living in Ireland still, but after I get my stuff sorted, I'll ship the car here. Cant find the 70s scoobies anywhere over here!

A shame to hear about it, but I know how it goes. 69' Mustang - not rare, but ran out of money and it sat for years. 61' Falcon - a bit rare, about 10 years after restoration it's subframe failed inspection. 91' Legacy SS - not too rare, but complete mechanical rebuild and couldn't keep it and my STi 04' WRX STi - not too rare, but moving to Ireland meant keeping it was cost prohibitive AND there was no way I could afford to ship/tax it. Sometimes one needs to clear the slate and reorganize, better to do this than what most people do; Parking it in a basement or barn and letting it rot! *I did this with the mustang, ruining half the body work* Best of luck on the sale.

Very cool! Such a TINY engine and trans, look at all that room! No wonder FHI said, "pft, we can put the spare in there too! If my leone was in great shape, I'd not bother but with it in it's current state, I'm so putting an EJ20/EJ22T and a 6speed in it! *I know it'll require some fabrication, but it'll definitely fill out the engine bay.

My new 1977 sport coupe
Legacy RallyGuy replied to Pooparu's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I so wanted this, but I need RHD.. Love it AND the wheels! My Scooby is coming to Ireland one day! Or maybe I'll restore and have a rare Subaru in an even more rare LHD setup in a RHD country There are a good few LHD cars here, since Europe as a whole is mostly LHD... -
Yes, that is a great article! If it helps people keep an eye out for vintage/classic, even the beater-scoobies... It's done it's job. . *Oh and on "beater"... I've used the term since the early 80s...* Also, it's a lot of fun for those that already love oldies-but-goodies Subarus

Proof: I'm still around, and can still get dirty
Legacy RallyGuy replied to Subarutex's topic in Off Road
Oh and the title of your thread reminds me of the Sublime song, "What I got" Sublime - What I got... Slightly edited for Subaru owners.. Rally in the morning, sideways down the street; Light me up that Blizzak set, leaving blackmarks on the street. Got to find a reason, the reason bearings went wrong; NOT to find a reason why my money's all gone. I have a Subaru; I can still jump high; I can drift the forest like a motherf***'n riot! -
I'd inspect your choke... Did you try to hold it to the floor to set the choke before cranking?

Welcome and Very nice! Reminds me of a car I WISH I never passed up... Had one dent...

I'm not sure what heads it's running now, probably a machined-a-bit: EJ20 EJ25 and DOHC with matching intake... And yeah, you'll want an engine controller if you're changing from SOHC to DOHC. I just ran the stock EJ22T heads and intake with a TD04 Turbo, so I could get away without tuning it for a while... But the new owner took full advantage of the built block! I think it was a GT30-esque turbo. He says there's some lag, but when it kicks in, it breaks the car loose. Edit: AND when he did that, he shattered three transmissions within a few months... It's now a STi 6spd... :3

So, by the very fact that this thread's content contains more information than a single semester of junior college... Proves that Subarus, albeit quirky are a thinking mans car! *Yes, there are boy-racers/ricers about that own many Scoobies, but as a whole, I've rarely witnessed a more multi-syllabic dialog! [And we now return you to your regularly scheduled injector cleaner conversation...] So where might one buy BG44K mentioned a bit earlier?

Looking to Invest in My First Subaru
Legacy RallyGuy replied to tdodge41's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Yup! If you take your time and read the instructions with the measure twice, cut once method... You can build some amazing things... Just ask questions if you don't know and keep your patience about ya and you can accomplish anything. Notes are priceless too, I took three years to rebuild my Legacy and thankfully I took great notes *form most of it* It saved me time and money! In the vintage Subaru world, it's always best to start off with a complete (as much as possible) car... And and especially if it's your first car, get one as close to stock as possible... I was on my 6th Scooby, when I bought my STi that was full of upgrades-cobbled together parts and aftermarket parts. I was chasing gremlins for nearly a year... You may have seen it around an art forum or two if you know MilesFox. It's the 04' STi with the license plate that says, "YIFFY" Sadly, when I moved to Ireland, I couldn't ship. Oh, And really handy, document the build. That way if you do pass it on to someone else, you gain a friend, not an enemy And most of all, welcome aboard! -
new format for usmb

It's not too bad, I like the way one can "like" a post... I'm thinking that's a handy way to keep a list of your favorite stuff without subscribing to the threads, getting constant emails -
I did something VERY similar to that... EJ22T block, Stock crank, Wiseco pistons, Scat rods, ACL bearings... Car has different heads now, but is pushing 450HP at the wheels reliably... They're excellent blocks! Kept the crank, as it was going to be spending a good bit of time in the 5,000 - 7,500 RPM range. Block built in 2007, was still going strong in 2012- when I last spoke to owner's brother.

Love it!

I've not had any trouble in my several dealings with witchhunter, but that was almost six years ago... Either way they provided me with a pre cleaned and post cleaned flow rate/leak test results... I went from having a slight sputter at idle and a random hiccup under full throttle to smoothness... Petrol injectors aren't really rebuilt at all, just cleaning the needle valve of varnish/gum and then cleaning the basket/filter and replacing o-rings. Injectors can fail in a non-repairable way, especially the SPI injector, if the actuator isn't available. Dirty injectors can be cleaned, snake-oil doesn't do a good job, but just short of taking out the injectors, seafoam and techron cleaners performed the best from my experience Cleaning duration... I'd send a little seafoam through every 3,000 mile oil change on my STi and every 15,000 miles on my Legacy. Unless you're using gross fuel/old fuel, spending $3-$7+ every 3,000 miles isn't really worth it... I had a friend that ran Techron through his rx8 EVERY tank, changed his oil every 1,000 miles with royal purple and worried that it wasn't enough... With the oil, fuel treatment and ulcer medication, he could afford to use Pennzoil from 1972 and change his engine when worn out each time.. hehe

I love the idea of building a rally car, but it's sooo hard on all the hard work you've done, especially for those that aren't sponsored! But I suppose the better you are, the less damage... Supposedly... But when you watch Pastrana, Block or McRae videos. They're going to win OR tear the car in half.. I label it, "damn the torpedoes-brave" -

The Awesome Older Generation Picture Thread

Thread: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/122294-finally-picked-it-up-1976-subaru-coupe/ No prob. Yeah, I'd love to do updates, but the car is in Missouri and I'm in Ireland... I'm hoping to pay off my bills within the next couple months and then pull the trigger on this... I'll bump up the thread when I get some progress done... The problems are: I found it in a barn in Missour.. 1. Need title to import to Ireland: (The prior owner lost it 25-30 years ago during the move to Missouri. In 2011, he contacted California's DMV- where he originally titled it, they refused to go through microfiche slides, "Retention is 20 years only after last title transfer...") 2. Need car to pass inspection to get title replaced through a title company. 3. Needs mostly restored to pass inspection And to keep on topic.... Barnfind pic! -

Thought you might like this... (This car competed in 1972 and 1973) A 73' Subaru GL Coupe was brought over from Japan for rallying by Noriyuki Koseki. His efforts were part of the initial rallying in America for Subaru. Found this here: Perhaps I own one of these factory prepped ex-racers: My car was found in the NM/AZ desert by the prior owner, he said, "It had no engine/trans/rear/interior and was on it's roof...
