  1. I have one I'm fixing, it's pretty clean body-wise, almost no rust, was a California car, then a barn-car-find here in missouri. originally a 1.4, now a 1.6L AWD 4spd. I'm fixing the body up as time progresses, but I'm moving to Ireland in April, so I'm not sure how it'll turn out, I'll likely end up selling it. I have an EJ22 sitting around, that would go with it... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=126568 I'm doing up the body properly, there's too much bondo on it now, the original "owner" just frenched everything in with inches of bondo, but the body is actually very straight. I should be posting progress pics soon-ish :3
  2. This would get me very far along, for now... 1976 Leone 2 door: roof skin #1 important windshield #2 important hood #3 would love one door/window rubbers #4 wishing a bit here...
  3. I think a gal that can do even SMALL things on their car, like add washer-fluid, check other fluid levels, etc are awesome! It gives a strength and independence and destroys the stereotype. My wife-to-be picks up stuff from me just by proximity and I'm so proud of her, sure, she'll never want to turn a wrench, but she can properly look after her car's basic stuff and not go, "I dunno." Which actually looking after the small stuff, takes care of big stuff! Much respect to girls :3 Oh and my gal said, "Why would I get greasy, working under a car... When I have you to watch and drool over?" hehe, she likes it when I literally get all dirty! Who knew? And to think my mom always said that it'd be hard to find a girl if I have messy hair and grease on my cheek...
  4. I hope I can make it look good, and tidied up, it's a positive locking system, so I imagine it's not very prone to leaking.. I HATE a leaky sunroof, it makes me thing RUST! and also, getting a splash of water in the crotch is a bummer when you're on your way to work... It's massively tempting really. Hehe, I dont think I'll throw away the sticker... I'll definitely keep it somewhere in the interior, or maybe just glue it down tighter there
  5. I picked up some stuff for my car and stopped by to visit it.. :3 Would you believe it's now sitting under a brand new car cover Why have it start rusting now? I really do like the way it looks, but I'm still wondering what to do and to what level I fix it... More pictures for fun: Soo angry looking and I LOVE it! Very Mad Max! The massive tape player, with the add-on thingy *on dash* AND factory air conditioning!!! I want to keep both! The second owner from early in it's life to recently was a worker in the 250 and 500 mile Baja races... Vintage Sticker FTW!!! I normally HATE sunroofs in anything... but the dual lids are sooo cool!
  6. I started a new thread, as this one was quite out-dated I figured it deserved a bit of a new start: http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=126568
  7. A good bit of the bondo is flaking off, some of it was VERY thick It shouldn't take too long to get the body down to steel, since most of it is very clean, but the "frenching" in of the flares and fin are heavy with bondo... I'll just leave it as normal seams.
  8. tempting, but I doubt it'd make a good rally car, as spares would be either difficult to find or expensive
  9. I picked it up today, and let me tell ya, I've worked on better, but I've certainly rebuilt much much worse from the ground up! I'm going to give the car a once over and see what I'm looking at... Here's some pics for your enjoyment:
  10. Well, I bought IT! I finally got him to allow me to purchase it!!! And I handed him the dough. *what I found out... It's a 1976... The driveline is from a 79' GL Wagon... Dual Range 4spd manual and electronic ignition upgrade! Even has some NOS bumper and the fender/trunk fiberglass pieces ARE factory installed, but he "had a wild hair and put lots of bondo on things" and this car has a BAJA 250 and BAJA 500 history... He used to work the track back in the day along side drivers like Parnelli Jones and Bob Gordon!!!! Very cool history with this car huh! He even has a box full of finishing slips that he collected from early races. I dont believe this car is in good enough shape to to a full restoration, and the availability of parts isn't great, so I'm going to sit back, plan, remove all the bondo and search for rust... I pick up the car from the barn, where it's been since 1981 on Thursday... Something tells me this car will share more secrets when I tidy it up and go through it. I hope they're good secrets too!
  11. HAHA, I was actually juuuuust going to check that out... So they made it a two door sedan... odd
  12. A bit of a bump for this thread... I've done some work on my other two projects.. 04' STi with GT30R swap *running, but now need A/C and power windows fixed* 91' N/A AWD Legacy *offroad build, needs exhaust and some tuning* I think I've a buyer for my 69' Mustang project that never got off the ground, so it'll clear something major off my plate and then I can start on another Scooby... I'm wondering though, where would be a good direction to take this... I wouldn't mind hearing your thoughts on these: Vintage rally car replica: fun/dirty/dings are okay Drift car - throwback: I know a 2400lb AE86 drifts (120HP) so a 1700lb Leone with an EJ22E swapped RWD conversion should slide well.. Either way, I'm still chomping at the bit... epsecially knowing there's a roof skin available for the car, somewhere in the great American SouthEast in a semi trailer... as well as two very nice looking vintage aluminum wheels... The little barn find is tempting me so... And yes, I've just spent two hours reading EJ wire swap threads the OBDI and OBDII also.. input is very welcome
  13. I love the pictures! Feel free to post more!
  14. As long as the HLA aren't damaged, they can be unclogged with a bit of patience and fresh oil and a small pin. 1. remove valve cover 2. remove rocker assy 3. remove HLA set and keep track of locations 4. soak them in warm fresh oil 5. press pin into release ball, and compress over and over until it moves freely and it only passes clear oil. 6. prime each HLA with fresh oil 7. reassemble stuff This method fixed my 1991 SS' HLA noise, as most were clogged. They now have over 200,000 miles.
  15. Hehe, yup, that's me, I've got the mold and fiberglass stuff ready again, the only thing stopping me is time at the moment. My g/f was visiting from Ireland so we went south to tablerock lake. I need to deliver a car and visit some family in AZ next week, then it's back to my personal projects when I get back. I'll be making a batch, then posting em up. I didn't make near enough last time with only three scoops... I'd love to bring some to the camp out! -Ken
  16. And that's the exact reason, I miss my old subarus the most, sure... they break and sometimes need a tow home, but they're fun cars! Wish my 89 was THIS cool, but that's why I'm really looking into the 75' Leone...
  17. NICE, looking very good! And TEASE! Saying, "Complete" on a Subaru forum is so mean! hehe, just playing, love the car, keep it up!
  18. ahhh, though it was a "cat can haz cheeseburger" thing. hehe
  19. I hope to have my Legacy done by then, that'd be cool! but yeah, that's a lil ways off for me.. I'm 50 or so miles south of Iowa...
  20. It's a manual, so it's likely to be in good-dandy shape, the issues could be: if the seals leaked, you might need to have it rebuilt, but at $250, that's not a bad deal... I paid $500 for mine and an additional $250 for the pedal set/axles and rear subframe... Depending where you are, you could likely find a shop to give it a once over and clean/polish things and inspect everything internally and fresh seals for around $300. And depending on your patience, you could do it. Or if it's in good enough shape, drain the lube and if there's very little gone or it's fairly clean, you could have found a gem!
  21. Is the guy really sick or are we just being bored? Hope everything is okay... But I live about 50 mins south of Iowa, so I'd be interested...
  22. very nice find... and I can't believe that's in such great shape!
  23. very clean car! And I laughed, when I saw "NOM" as your plate Why can't automakers make cars with character any more? I was saddened to see the new Legacy get bigger/fatter/slower...
  24. Me too! I totally thought it was OEM! It fits very well, but I dislike the bondo "frenching" in the thing... Even the fender flares fit like OEM fiberglass, so it's quite interesting! I think that I'll keep the flares and spoiler, not so sure about the pop up sunroofs though... I salvaged the roof skins off a few cars, so I've plenty of sheet metal, in case I dislike them enough
