  1. I have a digital copy of the up to 1989 service manual. let me find a link to one online and I will get back to you. there is a section on the home page where members have posted all this stuff, but I think it is a little tough to find. Here it is: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=978071#post978071 you can get her from the home page by: -click older gen link -at very top of page there is an announcement for endwrench articles, click this -follow the link to the thread page Read through these thoroughly. I found enough info on EA82 engines and cars to make 6 1.5" binders of double sided paper that I use as my manuals today. Also, on this page, there are some diagrams you may find useful http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=121283&page=24 although you have a carbed model I'm sure and this is for a FI model. Come to think of it, do you have an EA81 or an EA82? I can't remember what year they switched over. Never the less, there is plenty of info in the first link for both.
  2. Isn't the horn run through a fuse in the driver's side panel? I think it's like #5 or something. Found it! Check this and report back... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=65726&highlight=seatbelt+fuse
  3. Got it scanned in and made into a PDF file. 987687, the email you sent me did not work, and l75eya you need to send me an email address if you still want it. If there is a way I can post it on the board, let me know that way people can keep from emailing it around.
  4. Got the pm's will try to send them out tomorrow morning.
  5. I actually printed that thread off in color with pics so I could use it. I will see if I can scan it in for you and email it to you. PM me your email if you want.
  6. I would recommend getting your wheel bearings looked at. Does it happen while you are turning or just driving in general? I'm not sure on your wrenching experience, but they are relatively easy and cheep to replace yourself. I would say 3-4 hours and less than $50 in bearings, grease and seals plus a jack, wrenches, latex gloves and some rags. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=77491 check out this post and you will be able to see what it takes. Good luck. Or like zukiru said, pull a used hub from a junk yard with bearings already in it, but then it is a guess if they are still good.
  7. I will second the Cox Mazda site. Just did it with 2 different rigs.
  8. My Bad http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=112226 hope this helps
  9. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=77491 Follow this. It makes life easy.
  10. It would be nice to know what year your car is or if it is FI or carb. With FI, it is possible a bad intake manifold gasket would cause that noise, but not an oily type smoke. If you are talking about blowby, where oil is passing by your piston rings into the combustion chamber, then you are probably due for a new engine. I personally don't believe these things are worth more than doing a head gasket job on. However, I really don't understand what you are saying and how you are diagnosing your issue. If there was air escaping from a head bolt, your engine would more than likely be up ************ creek and coolant and oil would be everywhere. Have you checked your spark plugs? air might escape and cause some misfire issues if they are not tight enough. Otherwise, your picture shows about normal Subaru oil leakage after 20 years.
  11. Sounds easier than what I was going to do. My concern was that the O2 sensor would not work properly without the cat.
  12. I am considering building a stack exhaust system for my 91 loyal. I know I've seen them on here, but I can't seem to find it using the search button. I am wanting to go 90 degrees off the cat to a cherrybomb out of the hood and maybe up an inch or two topped with one of those tractor flap things. Also, I have no emission standards where I am, so I was considering removing the cat. As long as I keep the O2 sensor, will this cause issues? If you have pics of your exhaust, please post them. P.s. the reason for those type of exhaust system is that the PO removed all of the exhaust hangers. I also like the idea of having something a little different. (Not that a lift Soob with oversized murders isn't already different!)
  13. Thanks. I finally found a thread that said Bosch was the way to go, but they are really not too picky. I just wanted to be sure before I went and bought one of those parts that could be OEM only.
  14. I really don't know an EA81 oil pump from a hole in the ground, but could you tap it with a rubber mallet or use a hammer and a 2x4? Not hard, but just enough to jar it.
  15. Sorry, I know this is another overkill question, but I want to make sure I am buying the right part. Are these cars particular to an O2 sensor in the same way they are to thermostats? Do I need to buy OEM or can I buy aftermarket? Which aftermarket ones are BEST and which to avoid? Thanks.
  16. honestly, it probably is the wheel bearings. They are super easy to do and if you already the stuff to do it, you may as well get it done. The bearings are a wear part and your car will be that much better off if you do them. I'm not sure if it is posted in your thread, but here is a link with instructions to get it done: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=77491 . Good luck and if everything goes smoothly, it should take no more than 3 hours per knuckle (including learning curve).
  17. ya, I got the felpro gasket set and I am trying to use everything in the kit so that none of it goes to waste like the valve seals. The HLA's are fine, I have no ticking or had no ticking before it came apart. I just wanted to preserve them and not get cleaner/degreaser on them while cleaning the heads. Otherwise I assume they work fine.
  18. I took both heads off of my 91 Loyale EA82 and I need to clean them. I was going to use brake cleaner, but I didn't really want to spray down the hydro lifters. I actually would like to test and clean the lifters and remove the valves too. So here are my questions: 1) How do I get the valves off? My spring compressor doesn't seem to be doing it. 2) How do I remove the hydro lifters? 3) How have you done it/ What is your experience? By the way, I'm using a spring compressor that looks kinda like a gear puller. Also, I will not go to a shop to have any work done. I want to do it my self so I know how it works and how to fix it if it breaks, etc.
  19. It would be helpful to know any symptoms, problems or leaks you have. Otherwise as far as maintenance goes, if you don't know when the timing belts were changed, do those along with all the o-rings and seals including the oil pump, maybe a water pump, valve cover gaskets, A/C and power steering belts, and any other items like that you can think of.
  20. Agreed. I suppose I could start collecting information and links for that if I could get some help from you guys.
  21. Yup, I agree also. I was one of those people who was told to go OEM and thought I could be fine with a NAPA part, which is why I have the one in the picture. I look back and wish I could have have saved $10, my sanity, and hours of lost time. That is why I posted the picture and I hope it helps at least one person.
  22. So, I know that this is a big deal here on the board, so I thought I'd throw in my $.02. I am in the middle of doing a head gasket change on my Loyale and wanted to show the difference between the Subaru OEM thermostat and the NAPA version which I can only assume is the same at other parts stores. If you ever doubted the difference or questioned whether or not to spend the extra $5.00, I hope this helps make your decision. I think the answer is obvious!
  23. Pictures update: Passenger Side Head Valves from cylinder 1 Piston 1 Piston 3 Hope this helps. Oh, plugs are BPR6ES11
  24. I really don't notice any bogging or lag. The car is kinda a gutless wonder, but I guess that's just the EA82. I suppose I can put it back together and see how it runs before I worry too much since everything else looks fine. And thanks for the plug info. I will check tonight to see what was in there.
  25. How do I fix that with spfi? And which plugs would be right? I'll check what I put in tomorrow.
