I have a 2006 Forester. Haven't been driving it much. Tried to drive it a few weeks ago and the 640 CCA lead acid battery was dead. Jumped it and drove a bit. Checked and learned that cranking and charging tests were fine. The battery test indicated that it was good but needed to be recharged. I ran it on a charger for about 8 hours over two days but only increased from 473 - 522. This morning after sitting around for 2 days dropped to 379. Driving it around the block a couple of times it was back up to 453. And rechecking after being parked a few hours was about the same. Charging it was confusing. 10A charger only charged at about 1.4A, voltage was about 14.5. If it isn’t the charger which wonder if there is some plate sulfate issues? I can remove the battery and charge but that is a bit of a pain as the battery is about 4.5 years old. Not driving it much as probably harmed it. Thinking about a AGM as I think that sulfate issues are less common if not driving the car much. Any ideas as to what to play with or does it seem like just getting a new battery is in order. If I change it, what are the best ways to avoid losing settings?

I have a 2006 Forester, and after 5 years each remote has broken in exactly the same way. The lock switch breaks off of the microprocessor board and seems impossible to reattach. I have a OEM remote I bought a couple of years ago and wish to program it. I have read the posts re opening and closing the door, turning ignition from lock to unlock 10 times, opening and closing the door and when there is an audible signal, reprogramming the remote code by locking and unlocking the car door. I have done this many times in the past couple of days and cannot get it into programming mode to save my life. What am I missing. If anyone can be of help, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have a 2006 Forester. The keyless remote broke. Took apart and a transistor broke off of the microprocessor board. Do not have the micro soldering tools to repair it. Anyone know who repairs these, if that is possible. Also, anyone know a good source to get a new one at a reasonable price. Not sure if a used one can be reset to work with my car. It is a two button I believe. The number off of the back is: ic: 3495A-WB1U711 If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

No, it does not just do it at the start of the day. It seems to do it most often, except after driving for a while on the freeway when it is hot. It runs somewhat sluggish even after starting it up. Like I said, on idle, it keeps kicking up clicking, and kicking down every few seconds. Not sure how the clutch is related either, but unless it is cold, I have to pull the clutch slightly off of the floor for it to kick over. Maybe it is just a coincidence!

I have a 2006 Forester. It has low mileage, approx 26K. A few weeks ago I notice that occasionally I had to crank longer than normal for the car to start, but not every time. I replaced the battery as it was the original 5 year old battery and tested low, but that did not solve the problem! In order to start the car quickly, I have to pull off the clutch slightly, and when it is cold it will not start in gear, but only in neutral??? And that is after two or three tries. I have checked all connections. When the car is hot, after being driven on the fwy for maybe a half hour, it starts fine. However when not, it is hard to start. It turns over but does not engage. This morning I was on a uphill grade and it spitted and sputtered until it started. I noticed when I let the engine run at idle, it seems to speed up and it clicks and kicks down and keeps doing that every several seconds. Is this normal? Could I have gotten a bad tank of gas a few months ago? It doesn't seem to be the clutch switch as the starter turns over every time. I took it to a Subaru shop today, and of course after driving it for a while, it started without a problem. He said without a check engine light to scan any codes, he could not figure out what the problem is. Could it be a sensor of some sort that measures heat? I asked whether he thought that the air filter or plugs should be changed and he did not think that was necessary. Other than Suby Specialities which has a 2-3 week waiting list for everything out her in Los Angeles, anyone know of any good Subaru shops. Or does anyone have any ideas of what I might check and replace, just to be on the safe side. Please help if you can.

I replaced the battery as it was the original 5 year old battery and tested low, but that did not solve the problem! Then one time the check engine light came on for a second and went off. I Did not come on again, except at start up. Now in order to start the car quickly, I have to pull off the clutch slightly. I have generally started the car in gear, but think I should be starting in Neutral. When I started in neutral this morning it seemed to start more reliably? Maybe just a coincidence? Is the Interlock Switch going? I got down and played with the switch a bit, checking movement and such. I believe there is a way to D/C the switch and jumper it to the harness to see if bypassing the switch works, to rule out the switch? I am assuming that the harness is the plug with multiple contacts to the right of the switch. The interlock switch is on the bottom of two switches on the clutch, right? Is that the one that would need to be replaced if there is a problem. Please help if you have any experience with this.
