  1. Amazing what a little spray paint, pliers, and removing some rust can

do to a car's appearance. I had a $1 spray paint can to make my daily driver look a little more presentable..

and I had the joy of having my

rear brake shoe break in half (just the stopping pad part)

and feel like someone jammed on the emergency brake

at low speed. looked inside the drum, saw the mess,

cleaned out and it's good. Will replace the pad later today

or tomorrow I guess. Luckily the only store in the area

that had it was the one near my house $13.50+tax w/

    $5 core charge :)

Now to fix that hood latch.

  2. Yes, I'm guessing it never has been changed and it breaking

definitely wouldn't surprise me. I made sure that I bought a non

interference engine for my "historic" qualified search/purchase.

WHat I did get surprised by was the brake shoe stopping material

broke in half on me today in the rear right wheel. I'm not a mechanic

but i've done a timing belt, chain, and a clutch before. I've read someone here

say a good mechanic can get the engine out in an hour, so i'm really liking the

simplicity factor of these subarooos, unlike "improved cars" that look like a snake pit under the hood.

  3. saw an add on craigslist, $300.

potential clutch problem... and has been sitting for a year

and a half. Went over, popped in a new battery, hit it with

a shot of starter fluid and it started right up. let off the clutch and it engaged back and forth. Offered her $200, she countered 275, i told her half way at 250 and she accepted (I was sold at 300 though). I got 2 year historic plates (no inspection nor emmissions yaye!, filled up the tank.. 200 miles later (getting excellent gas mileage) i'm still happy. 150k on the odometer.

have service records, fuel pump replaced 5 or 10 years ago,

clutch cable, intermediate pipe. Has the infamous ticking, i will probably

switch to 20-50 and live with it. It's the 2wd but i'm cool with that, we only get about 2 weeks of real snow here in the dc area yearly.

She doesn't like hills very much, and i think i notice some clutch slippage

around 3 to 4k so i'm babying her for a while. Clutch pedal feels a little

funny too, not on the floor but seems like it's lower than other sticks i've driven.

I have to manually reseat the right headlight nightly though LOL what fixes that dialectic grease? also need to find some wiper blade refills small enough to fit in there.. or should i swap out the arms?

So when it's clutch time, i guess the whole motor should be pulled, and do the timing belt at the same time?

  4. Let's see i spray painted the rusty spotted rims black.. lol..

and it seems i have to nightly open the hood and reseat the right

headlight to get it to come on..

i installed a replacement aftermarket stereo, the previous sony

would skip LED numbers from like 91.9 to 107.xx fm and the

    same for the clock..

i wired the cigarette lighter to be always on (ran a hot wire from

the fused side of the power doorlock fuse. (note cut the blue

wire with black line and leave the white connectored wires alone

    big headache)..

and now i've got to figure out what's going on with the dash lights. I think i blew the relay or dimmer switch..

  5. Well Here's an idea that I won't pursue.. there are certain android based phones (evo, maybe epic?) .. or even tablets with say a 7" screen.. (or maybe a color nook)

anyway they run off of 5volts DC so you won't need an a/c converter,

they have a NES emulator with hundreds if not thousands? of games available,

they have bluetooth and you can use a wii controller..

the only thing is, i can't recall if it's restricted to an HDMI out? this would be a lot nicer on your cars electrical system.. and be less bulky..

    btw i love my 88GL. i'm sure it'll need a clutch eventually though :\

For ideas, you can go to youtube and search for EVO SNES EMULATOR and HDMI out or whatever.. and see the in home setup, and then get ideas on

transfering it out ot the car.

  6. Well I wanted my cigarette lighter to be always on.. and

I didn't notice it had a 4th wire going ot the back, which was

the only one i really needed to cut, and i got the wires mixed up

    and confused.

I'm guessing i blew a relay because the fuses are good.. the headlights

and tail lights and stop lights all work. The ashtray light works..

so i'm guessing either the relay is bad or the dimmer switch. I was wondering

if i can by pass the dimmer switch for it to be full blast?

Can someone tell me what the wires actually are,

    red/green stripe

    red

    black - ground i'm assuming.

btw i installed a new radio while i was in there.. i still have a green and red wire that i had no use for left over. Anyone have a link to the wiring diagram?
