Ticking coming from from axles?
Prwa101 replied to nick1208's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
had to say which are the best bud. theres really no good re manufactured axles out there. Kinda like grabing into a candy bag, might get something good, might get crap. Best one i would buy is a lifetime warranty. Or i dont know if anyone has tryed the HERI axels yet. But i hear they have only a 13% turn around on returns. compaired to 40-90% haha... http://www.showmetheparts.com/heriautomotive/ sell them here online. I know we can get them at out shop but no one has requested them http://www.prostreetonline.com/x/heri-axles.asp EDIT: ^ haha funny i was a second behind. -
Normally i wouldn't reply to such non sense, but i feel the need to back my self up as a Subaru mechanic.. 1. The only difference in suspension between the forester and the legacy are the rear strut design. Much like the older EA style. But regardless, if your bushings are getting tweaked that much with king springs and 1" spacers there old and you should have replaced them before lifting it. 2. Primitive wouldn't have let him buy the 1.25" spacers and king springs if they wouldn't work and would cause major issues. So this is not only me who works for a shop, but also Primitive telling his it'll work. Two well known shops on the West coast. Your bushing problem is probably caused by all the salt you play in. 3. did you at all read how much lift he wanted? or read his last comment? 1" on the top of the strut and about 1.5" in spring. the 1.5" in the spring will very depending on how loaded the car really is. making it less that 2.5" wow that some hard math. 4. The difference between you and i, Bratman. Is i work in a shop on a regular basis, this is why i don't have nearly as many posts as you, because im in the shop and your on the computer. Big difference. And you probably shouldn't be slandering me nor anyone else from SSI and Primitive, since we build and swap cars all day. Oh and BTY we sold the pimp wagon, 1100$. The guy drove it away a month ago. He was a smilen. Conversation over. TawClaw- if you run into any issues with the axels, Primitive also has body/sub frame spacers i do believe. Or even better buy some HERI Slip yoke axles. PRWA

The front only changed about 2 degrees which was fixable with an alignment.. The rear didn't change at all. was still within spec. I know someone who runs 3" strut lift on his forester in Washington and dosnt have any problems. Scooby climbed has the same set up as me and he's had it on two of his foresters. Prwa

86 GL TURBO WEEKEND RACECAR PROJECT
Prwa101 replied to 86-GL TURBO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If your wanting over 200Hp your only option is turbo Ej22 or 25. A franken motor can make almost 200hp and is a na but it has to be built. As far as transmission no ea tranny will hold that much Hp for very long. The major advantage to the older wagons is they are a lot lighter than the newer ej cars close to 800lbs difference, making the horse to weight ratio a major advantage.. The best bet for racing in this GL would be full ej engine, trans, suspension swap. this would eliminate any adapter plates flywheel drilling, blown ea transmissions and more money down the road. and give you the option of 5 lug wheels and stronger axles. As far as your turbo ea its not worth dumping money into as they dont have the longevity of a na ej engine. prwa -
give us a quick run down on mileage of the car, year and such. But what they all said^ might i suggest though you to remove the banjo bolt turbo oil filter?... I have 2 forester xts both of which i got for cheap because the turbos were blown because the banjo bolt filter clogged up. Itll save you a lot of pain down the road... Prwa

Cleaning block surface where head mates up
Prwa101 replied to MR_Loyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
razer blade helps a lot to clean it up, thats what we use in our shop. prwa -
Raised king springs will bring you up about 1.5" and put a 1" spacer on the top of the struts. That'll give you 2.5" and stiffer suspension. This is what I've been running this on my forester and I love it. Primitive here in oregon sells king springs. Prwa

Have you checked your timing marks since you put the engine in? id try resetting the ECu once pull the pos cable and let it sit.
-
okay so what does it do at 4k? just sit there like its at red line? or sputter out and want to die? have you checked the fuel pressure while its running, and revving up?
-
post a video of thats going on. so you telling me that you only have the fuel pump power, power on,and switched power hooked up, right now? did you check and see if the harness worked before you installed it in the car? thouse wires should get it to run
-
This is your best friend for next several months http://www.numbchuxconversions.com/Files/EA2EJ.pdf I strip harnesses 250$ plus shipping. As far as price it will all depend on how much your willing to spend. I've seen full swaps go from 1000-2000. Including all parts. There's a lot of info on here, just need to search for it. I build my full car for under a grand counting engine car it self and lift and wheels. But I did everything my self. Prwa

WTB - Bill Omlin Monster Lift - 4" or 6" EA82.
Prwa101 replied to tedbull's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sjr lifts arnt strong enough. If you were going to buy his your have to pay out the yingyang and then have to reinforce it substantially. There pretty on the pavement though. Haha. Bills stuff Is one of the best I've seen. Reason why you never see his stuff for sale is because they last forever! -
Well this weekend me and my crew, Brother, Cuzin and best bud went to the Clackamas to go and fish a little of the high lakes... well there is still way to much snow! i hit a 4' deep x 10' long snow drift in my forester and plowed right through it.. but still ended up getting a little stuck further down the road.. rotten melting snow sucks.. we ended up hiking in cross country to get the the lake, nothin like be the first person in there! .. man what a weekend. The extra cleareance makes the world of diffrence! i didnt get stuck because i bottomed out, more of because my tires wouldn't cut through the massive amount of snow. Ofcource though all our phones were dead and no camera so we didnt get any pictures of all the snow...
