1988 subaru turbo GL, EJ22 and 4" lift, plus 6lug swap build!
Prwa101 replied to Prwa101's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
in the write up, "Use the EJ motor mounts, and widen the mounting holes in the crossmember slightly, somewhere between 1/4" to 1/2" on either side. A Dremel or similar rotary tool with a grinding stone works great for this. EA82 crossmember accepts the motor mount holes without widening (round EJ mounts) EJ mounts may have a centering nipple that needs to be ground off as there is no receiving hole in the EA crossmember as there is in the EJ crossmember. 3""" and i think mine is an ea82, theres no block to see what it is, but looks like surfing the web that it is a ea82T. okay so i picked me up a 88 subaru turbo gl the other day for 260$ (no motor), got my ej22 and harness stripped just waiting on a couple of things for start putting her togeather (money included) haha. pretty much just need the xt6 clutch, addplate and fans pretty stoked to build my monster subi!!! has 180k on it not bad for a little car work for my girlfriends parents impreza. Three and half days of streight harness stripping, not bad for a noob. my 235/75/R15s for the 6 lug swap the ej22 should fit right up with the cross member bolts right? looks the same as my 90 loyale and thous fit right up. it being a turbo dosnt change much does it? i am open to any advice from anyone! thanks! -Prwa

I lied this lift will be going into my new 88 turbo gl that I'll be putting my ej22 in! 260$ for a nice car!

Well if my calcs are right a 1x2x3" 3/16" piece of steel can hold just over 450lbs. So I started making the the crossmember 3" block I made them 7.5" long, and just one of thouse babys will hold over 4000 lbs. I think I'll be just fine with what I got. Scott, I'm going to try and make onE and if it dosnt work out or I can't fond the time, i'll forsure buy one from you, don't have the money right now, trying to buy another car, as is mine is dieing...

okay i was just thinking about the front suspension blocks today, would a 4x4" or 5x5x4" 1/4" steel tube stood up right, cut at a 17d angle with tabs welded on so it can bolt and go over the rubber on the strut? and why in every picture i see the strut blocks, looks like the strut mount is always cocked/spun one way so it dosnt line up at the 17b angle? could just be me... and the way the picture is take.. http://www.sjrlift.com/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/0_4__Lift_Kit_EA_4b144fd82d8c1.jpg http://www.sjrlift.com/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/4__EA82_Front_St_4b144d943dede.jpg thanks

yeah i actuilly show the steel guys a picture of your lifts and the 3/16" is what they gave me. id buy one from you but im poor and paying for school out the ***... and am trying to buy a forester, why'll im working on my loyale. thanks for your help! you guys are awesome!

well shoot, yeah i dont have a welder at my house but could go to a freinds to do that if i have to.... although i have two 25"x3x2 3/16" bars right now that i prolly cant take back to trade in... so would instead of just using 2"x3" blocks for the front, could i just cut the steel as a long block, i think last time i measured the front crossmember bolts it was 6" or so so about 7 or 8". so it will be a 8"x3"x2" block so ill only need 4 of thouse for all the spacing in the front? will that be strong enough? im referring to this picture (insted of haveing 4 blocks id just make thouse two long ones) http://lh3.ggpht.com/_ZY8ImyyIBsQ/S6rqpXF78KI/AAAAAAAACDQ/choRJDoBIzk/s640/PICT0002.JPG thanks!

anyone know what a good size of steel would be??? i just went down and got 3/16" 2x3 tubes for the blox, is that good enough? ive heard some people say 1/4 is to much so i went with a little smaller.. thanks!

Prwa101 replied to Prwa101's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
How do you tell the diffrence? Mine is just the 4wd button on the stick. The ej tranny is an auto, so can that still be done? Prolly not huh. And I'd have to buy another flywheel anyways. So yeah, I like the tranny that in it already, there cheap in jyard. Prolly end up getting a locker for the rearend too. -

yeah i relized that after i had already done it... so its all good at least i didnt mess it up completely, just a little extra time wasted. got thouse done too, got a inline fuse for the one that connects to the batt:banana: i agree with you on that one haha! once you get your head around it a couple times, it starts going easier and easier. but id be a fool if i didn't give any credit to, YOU and some other people thanks a million! due to school starting back up at PSU... itll be a while till i get the ej22 in my wagon, unless the motor goes (which is possible) haha. but the ea82's are little beasts! haha time to make my add plate and collect other random stuff -
A total of three and a half says of solid harness stripping, and it's compleat now for my self (a compleat noon to this) I thought it was pretty easy and kinda fun! Haha. But I have a strong will to learn, and it prolly helped having it all in my room and working on it allday every day... Haha. Eat, sleep, and drink harness. now let's hope it starts. Haha. now to finish my parts list Aswell

ill be running a stock ej22 from a 93 legacy, in a 1990 loyale 4x4 with 27 or 28" tires. is that better? thanks! -prwa
-
okay im getting ready for my ej swap so far i have, 93 legacy motor 93 stripped harness and that's about it..... -the fly wheel ill have a friend re-drill. -ill make the adapter plate. exhaust- i see people using 2 1/2" do i have to find 2 1/2" headers or is that after the stock headers? any advice on the exhaust it would be much appreciated! clutch is my main question, i see people using an xt6 clutch kit, is there a center year or type of car that i need to get it for, to kit my 93 motor? can the EJ fans fit in the EA82 wagon? thanks! -PRWA

Prwa101 replied to Prwa101's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
befor i did anything to them on my wiring on the ign 5,6 wire they go down and conect to make one, and then theirs another branch off that that leads to the FP big yellow, shows in the trouble shooting DG too... the Wiring diagram in the book and the ej write up diagrams are different... which do i go off of now? in the book it says FP pin 2, shows it goes to 5,6 IG relay... the write up say IG 5,6 go to main power ECu plug A15 then to battery.... -

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/600/dcp00010001.jpg/ this is the double diode pack i still have on the harness! one side is for fan stuff and the other is, alternator and ignition switch lt green and yellow! haha.. i thought i was going crazy... this is the one im suppose to still have right? and now the one ignition relay wire still loose on the ECU pin B12 yellow just needs to be wired to a wire thats on in the "on position"? this is the wire i cut when fallowing the diagram on the wright up... thanks! -

Prwa101 replied to Prwa101's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
that would be awsome! but i live in Sandy, west of Mount Hood.. although i do make trips down to Monmouth every once in a while to see my girl. so this is a possibility. but idk when id be heading down next.. now this is very possible.... and the "diode" i could never find that, nor what it looks like in google images... do you have a picture or even a good description of it? ill try looking at these tomarrow, to see if this is what i did do wrong... As for fuel pump. You'll use the EJ relay, only wire from it you should need to mess with is the Black/red wire. It will connect to the EA fuel pump wire. I can tell you where and what color wire if you tell me what the EA chassis model is (year, EA81 or 82?Carbed or FI?) its a ea82 FI. i should beable to find that one pretty easy ive been in there once befor looking for it, but thatd be awesome if you already know thanks! -prwa
