I'd go with a 15" 6 lug rim. Easter to find tires in that size and very common. Try Craig's list for tires and rims. I got my set of steelys for 80$ and with desent tires on them. Prwa

Perfect, I should have another one ready this week. Keep me posted! Patrick

full parts list for big lift
Prwa101 replied to DLovin93's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
For lifts on your car most people run 1" more on the suspention than the body. but they is entierly dependent on if you want the axels at the stock geomerty or if you want them a little more at an angle. Also 1/2" tube is huge! I use 1/4" on all my lift kits and there near bullit proof, although i sugest making them solid blocks, no small sections all over the place. The rear suspention is dirrfent than the front, since the CV joints down that to make hard turns and mostly just go up and down, they can handle up to 3"ish without droping anything. most people go 2" over what ever they drop the rear suspention. grade 8+ are most common and more than strong enough for this. make sure you use lock wachers with your nuts, its that little exstrea that might save you down the road. that being said, i have 2" suspention lift kits for 180$ shipped in the US. does put your axels at a harder angle than stock. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/148582-anderson-design-fabrication/ PRWA -

If a Subaru is properly maintained it is very uncommon for them not to hit 200k and up. My 00 forester has 275k and it still runs like a champ. My buddy has a ej22 swapped loyale and it had 240k Not sure on the hole deal though, it's kinda up in the air for me. Prwa

This issue is very common with the turbo models. Cracks begin to form inbwteen the valves, growing until the hit the water jackets. This is one reason why turbo heads are so hard to find. Most of the time it's not worth it. My 88gl turbo is swapped for a 2.2 because this same reason. It'll cost more than 500, because you'll need most likely both heads. And they run up to 350 ea if there in good condition. Prwa

^^ my bad! 1" subframe drop needs a stearing extension. And also with any lift where you drop the subframe.
-
4" kits run about 500 easy. I'm starting my kits up but still working on the 2". I do however have some 4" rear lift brackets I'd sell
-
How big are you looking for? A 2" lift is just a spacer in the front and rear. Plus or minus the 1" crossmember drop.
-
Anything over 2" of lift on the front struts needs the subframe dropped. So if you want to keep it stock axles angle. You'll go 4" on front struts and 4" subframe drop. Some people even drop the front an inch with a 2" lift so the angle isn't so hard on the axles

I've got 4" reinforced rear brackets for sale. 60$ plus shipping. Also got 2" front towers haha. Pm me if our interested. Shifted will need to be extended and the linkage below will need to be lowered. Pretty simple one you get under it and starting figuring it out. Stearing is done like you said, cut in half and weld less that what your dropping because its at an angle. I think my 3" drop wanted my steering to be extended at 2.5". Prwa

You can fit a 27" tire with a 2" lift without trimming the fenders. My buddy runs Genral Grabbers AT/2's and he loves them. Good in snow and offroad. But it all depends on what you can find in that 14" rim. Most tires shops with have a magazine for you to look at and show you what they can get.

Prolly woundnt go to him for it... You guys wanna know something really funny though. I read this post when it got started, and Guess who emailed me today about my forester forsale. Non other than mudrat79. He wanted to trade his 96 OB for my forester. NO WAY DUDE. I'm not a moron, for all I know it's another scam and its on its last leg. He gave me his phone number too, if anyone want to harass him about getting your money or bumper back. Funny thing is he called himself mudrat79 in his email and mentioned his "bad rump roast" bumper he built... Haha.

Nice build man! You build the 4in lift kit your self? As far a 2.2 swap you'll love the power with those 29's! Adaptor plates you can get from inferno fabrication, and I offer 22 swap harness services.

I was going to hold off on doing this but, I guess I could get a pre order going. I just got my parts back from the machine shop. I've got 2" ea82 lift kits, which includes 2" strut towers, 2" rear reinforced shock tower and hardware. Price is 160$ a kit. Plus shipping I will openly admit I offer a life time warrenty on the kit it self. As I know all of my parts are built for over kill. I'm currently at least a week out of having these done. Pm me if your interested. My goal is to bring a strong, safe, reliable lift kit, that costs less for me to fabricate, which in return costs less for my customers. Photos are my kits, designed in Auto cad by my self. Prwa101

My 2000 forester has 275,000 on it and is still going. 00 was the 251 sohc, the head gasket issue is fixed with the 257 (STI) head gasket. Subaru claimed they redesigned the old head gasket for the 251 but in fact it didn't change anything. Wow 3500 is a pretty good price. I'm toying with selling mine sadly, king springs, 1" lift, the hole shibang. I upgraded to the 04 FXT's and am addicted now. I'm planning on running the same set up as I got on my 00.

Rubber dampener in shift linkage peeling apart
Prwa101 replied to jmoss5723's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
^^ what he said. Works perfect on mine. But use some glue/lock tight or steak it so it doesn't back off when your on the road Prwa -
It's an imperfection from the cast and mold. 100% sure. Nothin to worry about Prwa

obd 1 vs obd 2 ej to ea swap
Prwa101 replied to Subinoobi's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I prefer obd1. Easy for me to tare down and label. Are you planning on stripping yours? Obd1 just requires to to eliminate the SMJ little soldering and hear shrink. But obd2 is faster and is a more efficient ecu and engine. Prwa -
Just had this happen to mine... I'm opting for better wheel bearings. 6207-2RS from mcguier bearings here in Portland. The harder you beat it in there the harder it'll be to get out when you need to swap it on the trail. Good read. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/113150-wheel-bearings-wont-come-out/

Welcome to the board! This is what I did to my 88gl turbo http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/122949-1988-subaru-turbo-gl-ej22-and-4-lift-plus-6lug-swap-build/
