  1. Thanks for the info. Mobil1 catalog listed 2 filters in there book so it is probably one of those. Also if the thread and pitch is the same i guess a regular oil filter can be used. OB99W- thanks for the oem # as the parts guy at my dealership tried to give me the internal and had no idea what i was talking about. I could no longer read the # as the cv joint had given up a boot some time ago and the filter is illegible. Thanks again, Billy
  2. I have done a search and I am not having much luck. The auto parts guys(rocket scientists that they are) can't find the part # for the external trans filter for my 99 OBW. So without having to pull it off and match it up, does anyone have this part # in anything but Fram? Thanks for your time, Billy
  3. Thanks guys. OB99W-thanks for the search. I could not find that option(still having trouble), must be going blind. Imdew-thanks I will get back to you on that soon as I might need one. Billy
  4. Hi there, I have had an intermitent speedo problem for some time. It comes on and off at random and I can't see any type of pattern to it. The cruise control still works so I know the car is registering speed somewhere. Any idea's? I know there is a couple of different sensors and am trying to narrow it down. Don't want to pay the dealer. Thanks, Billy
  5. Thanks for the info, I'll call the dealer and get a quote. Thanks, Billy
  6. My 99 OBW makes a bit of noise. It sounds more like valves than the infamous piston slap. I have gotten different stories as to which years need the valves adjusted. If my 99 needs them adjusted is this a home mechanic job or should it just go to a shop? Cost? Thanks, Billy
  7. Thanks for the photo. I need to do mine in the next couple of weeks. Thanks, Billy
  8. Wow! Thats alot of info really fast. Thanks alot. I will definately go with the GR2's for the car and at the same time see what King spring will do for me. I'll give an update when its done. Thanks all, Billy
  9. Thanks Strakes, The GR2's are the ones I was refering to, glad to hear they are working fine. Thanks for the link on cargo coils. They say they are going to make them for other years also, just don't know if I want to wait. Thanks, Billy
  10. Hi there, I am due for some new struts on my 99 Legacy OB and saw some kyb units available, anyone using them? If not what is the preffered strut on these cars? It is my wifes car and I don't want to modify the ride to much but, I would prefer a little more dampning and control. Also I have been trying to find some aftermarket springs, maybe even some type of cargo coil for the rear since I tow a trailer sometimes. Thanks, Billy
  11. How hard was it to do the plugs, and what are the recommended parts in the process. It looks a little tight. I have a 99 OB and all the literature I have been able to find stops at 98 and starts again at 00. Thanks, Billy
  12. Thanks Chip, I have noticed the start of a couple oil leaks, but nothing major just yet. Later, Billy
  13. Thanks for the reply. The speedo problem is the same as OBW99 had and has been addressed in another post. I will get to fixing it here soon. It just quites working, intermitently. I have 96k on this car right now and I was really hoping to get 200k out of it. I guess I will just play it by ear. Thanks again, Billy
  14. Hi All, So I have this 99 Outback wagon that I love, but I have a few concerns. This is what I have, 1) Wierd speedo problem. Check! 2) Piston slap. Check! 3) Blown head gaskets. God I hope not! How do I identify which series of motor this car has? It is a 2.5 with an auto trans. What is the life expectancy of these motors with the piston slap issue? Where can I get a replacement or rebuildable core? and does the motor have to come out to do head gaskets on it? Thanks for your time and I look forward to chatting with all, Billy
