hey stranger. I'm really diggin the neon mang. are you thinkin about a dual range swap? I think that would be your best bet if you have 5speed and wanna take the car as far as it's set up to go.
-
went shooting the other day. did a little bit of hooning as well. did a sweet hill climb and tested the snorkel. the snorkel worked great, the hill climb (while I still did it took a few tries) BARELY had enough balls to limp to the top but didn't stall I let my buddy drive my car, which probably wasn't a good idea. he thought he was ken block and ended up hitting a giant pot hole going 40+. after that we felt the car steering itself during acceleration and got out to find that the passenger side bracket holding the steering rack on was busted off. my alignment is probably messed up too. junk yard was closed today so i'll get to it later this week. he took a few vids of me doing the hill climb so i'll post those up later. for now you will have to make due with a cell phone pic

hey all! build is slowing down as is work, BUT I thought yall might wanna see the finished snorkel and engine bay shot It works pretty damn well,, not completely air tight yet, but close. car almost stalls when I put my hand over it. I got my package from Scott! sad that it's going to be sitting for a while as I slowly gather parts. I'm not in a rush as the current tranny is solid, super low mileage and I can get around alright in most of the conditions I drive in haha. in the meantime, Im buying a whitewater kayak and gonna run some rivers! and then maybe some small subie stuffs
-
This is such a sick car! my next lifted sube is gonna be a leggy! a local guy has a blue one with sjr all over it. I'm collecting parts for a dual range swap. its gonna help soooo much on the trails. keep it up:headbang:
-
That would be sweet but $$$ I'm on a college kid budget so I might just have to leave the diff open for now if there isn't a reaonable solution. What do most of the gl guys do? Welded? Id like to get out on the trails with the nw offroad crowd but don't wanna slow em down you know
-
Hmmm maybe ill lsd for the rear instead cause I drive it on the road a lot. If the chirping was the only negative effect id be all over it,but I don't wanna blow up the diff if I can avoid it. And its gonna be my winter/mountains/snow car and I've read welded is unpredictible in the snow

I emailed him this week asking about the same thing. He said he built a 93 (is that your year?) And he said he used an old datsun truck driveshaft that happened to be the right length. I wish there was a oem part we could use. That complicates things. I like your car. Pretty beast with the d/r yeah?!

New Project.. 2" now but 8" later....Lifted D/R Impreza (Turtle)

Yesssss. This is going to be sick. I'm looking at puttin a dual range in my impreza so I'm gonna be following this! Do you know how much the driveline will need to be lengthened? From my reading I haven't been able to find that out. - Ryan -
I mocked up a snorkel with some gutter water drainage pipe with all the ruffles and what not to see how that would do because it was 5 bucks and it was a single piece construction. my guess is it would work if I found a proper grommet to attach it to the intake, but with the input of another snorkeler (keaton) I decided I'm gonna go pvc as it would provide better flow. I bought some duplicolor truck bedliner yesterday to paint the two-tone. i wanted to get herculiner, but it was thirty dollars more expensive because it came with as a kit with paint rollers and stuff which I already have. I'll get some pics when its all done. I should be able to have it done by the end of the week, time permitting. I got the front bumper all sanded down last night but ran out of light. I've also been doing research on the D/R swap. I WANT it badly. the stock trans just doesn't cut it. I've also been reading up about welded rear diffs. the overall consensus is that it transforms your grocery getter into a offroad monster. downsides being tire chirping and axle binding. meh. its a play car now so if I break stuff, i'll fix it NBD. The D/R swap is the big thing though. I need to start collecting parts so I can get that going and test it to see if I REALLY need a welded diff for where I will take it. I want to get into hardcore stuff so I can hang with my jeep buddies and drop some yota bros jaws. so it will probably happen haha Cheers

Great product man! Sounds awesome. Installed them on my obs and chopped the muffler, now I scare all the civics
-
wooooow, so just for fun i wanted to see what it would sound like if I hacked off the muffler. it sounds soooo beefy and badass. I'm gonna save myself a few hundred bucks and leave it like it is. its quiet enough that I won't get pulled over when I'm cruising, but it gets pretty intense when I mash on it. it sounds really close to my buddies modded wrx haha. now off to the store to buy some pvc piping and a drill bit and build a snorkel =]

I did not end up taking the sube on my road trip. last wednesday was my birthday and to my surprise, when I opened the garage after work I saw my family video taping my reaction to the new 2012 mazda 3 staring at me. it had 60 miles on it. what a gift. anyways, since the imp was kinda acting up I decided to take the mazda and what a difference! even when the sube was stock height on sti struts and other suspension goodies it didn't handle like the mazda. I'm glad it handles alright because the deal is I can't mod it at all. DD only. that just means I can throw money at the subie and not have to worry about fixing it in time for work lol The trip was awesome. A group of 20 or so of us departed friday morning on a memorial cruise for our buddy that passed last year. We went to the Redwoods to camp for a few days and searched for the Grove of Titans (to no avail),, we encountered what we assumed were locals that didn't want a group of our size stomping through the grove, and concluded that they sent us on a wild goose chase until we finally gave up our search. I will find it some day! then we made our way back north and hit Crater Lake yesterday. slept in Eugene, then hit up the mall in Portland and finally made it back home a few hours ago. I'm gonna call some exhaust shops and set up an appointment to get it done either tomorrow or wednesday. I'm gonna have them remove the second cat and have them put a straight pipe all the way back to a glasspack and tuck it up as high as they can. Since I don't have to daily the subie anymore I might as well make it sound like a moving earthquake haha gonna snorkel it tomorrow I'm also gonna buy some 1" wheel spacers and replace the front axles soon. i'll get some pics of it up pretty soon. not much change in the way of looks

fixed it! I feel stupid. as previously stated i just had to slide the joint down a little to prevent the splined dealy hitting it. works perfect now besides that it could use a little grease. its squeaky squeaky, but works like it should for the first time since I lifted it. STOKED thanks for all your input guys
-
So I went to the pick and pull and found a 98 forester steering joint. Tried installing it but it still binds. Les schwab looked at it and came up with my steering rack was angled weird putting extra pressure on the bottom joint which makes it bind.. their remedy ''dont lift it"............. dumb. Also I think I may have stripped one of the steering rack bracket bolty things. Is there a way to rethread it? Never done it before. Stupid carrrrrrrrr
-
yeah haha never thought to clean it before. my car has been running hot though and smelling like hot dirt... if you know what i'm talking about. its an odd smell. anyways its gone. just gonna change the brakes and itll be ready for fridays drive down the coast

got paid this week and that means a mod =] I bought this last night on ebay. looks well done and the seller is located in Oregon, so it should be here soon. for those of you that want the rumble and have a single port 2.2, here's the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=221096445633#ht_500wt_945 I'm goin to the redwoods next week so in preparation I changed my oil and did a coolant flush.. my car was making a boiling sound the other day in 90 degree weather and I was thinking the cooling system might be clogged. it was..while I was draining the lower rad hose, I noticed it was kinda dirty.. took it off and it was realllllllly dirty. cleaned her up and topped her off. its all jesus now. I'm super jealous of all the people at WCSS right now. I was on my way home from work in port townsend when I saw a large herd of subies rumbling by to go camp for the weekend. I'll be at the next one for sure.

whats the cure for that? you didn't happen to use the outback steering joint did you?
-
seems like the one I have is a fixed length with no flex. The forester one looks a lot closer in length to my impreza one. I shouldn't be able to use my stock joint if i've created a gap as it was designed without a gap. thinking back to when I installed the outback one, I noticed it had a little surface rust, but i remember playing with it and the joints moved in the direction they were supposed to. I don't know what the deal is. would the EA82 joint work for my application if it was cut to size? I like the idea of it being able to flex a little to avoid binding. this is my first lift so I don't really know whats causing the problem and how to remedy it. thanks for all your input.

I'll check the pinch bolts asap. when I got my alignment done they fixed it damn near perfect except a barely noticeable pull, but after I went wheeling, front end came down hard and knocked it out of whack and that bish doesn't wanna turn left. I'm certain the shaft is the right length because my body lift uses all legacy outback components so it should work just fine. GD - you're probably right, when I got it, it looked a little weathered. if its rusty is there any way I can salvage it or is it toasted? I still have my preza steering joint. i'll take the outback one off, test it and if it is beyond saving i'll see if I can get my buddy to add some length to the preza one. you just have to increase the length of it to = the height of the front subframe lift spacer correcto? thanks
-
Hey I lifted my obs a while ago on forester struts, 1" spacers, and the leggy outback body lift kit. I used all the pieces for it except the forester traverse link bushings. instead I used 2 skateboard wheels on either side to space it. I even used the leggy outback steering joint so I would assume everything would be fine..? It's been like this since I installed it. It makes the car less fun to drive as I have to strain to turn the car left. does this happen to anybody else? how do you fix it?
-
Hey so problem solved. in case this happens to anybody else, I replaced the A/F sensor and the neutral switch. MAKE SURE YOU RESET THE ECU I installed the new parts and nothing changed. was about to drop my car off at the dealer so they could rob me and it popped into my head. reset it and poof has been running great. idles a little low ~500 but better than surging. doesn't ever die or anything so whatever codes are gone, but i have a different one now for a cat.. meh im not too worried about it. thanks for all your help and hopefully this helps someone else Ryan
-
ITS ALIVE! replaced the A/F sensor and NSS and reset my ECU and bingoooo .. runs like a top. now that I have a reliable car again i'm gonna be workin my rump roast off for the next few weeks so I can afford some new goodies. -1" wheel spacers and studs -UEL header, and exhaust w/ a cherry bomb most likely -snorkel -skid plate -full size spare -recovery gear and some random stuff hey so i don''t have to pass emissions... when I redo my exhaust should I ditch the second cat? would that give me a little more power? worth the trouble?
-
oh yeah it's mounted in the cabin on the passenger side under the carpet. i'm definitely going to relocate it up higher where the glovebox is supposed to be. I took it out ages ago and it seems like a smart thing to do since I gravitate toward bodies of water. like I said it was a pretty big puddle lol a little bit of water came inside so it very well could be the ecu, but i'm gonna try the cheaper part first. on my way to the dealer now to buy one! weeeeeeeee
-
ok just want to keep this updated with everything that's going on. my buddy hooked up his OBD2 scanner to my car and it threw a P1507 and a P1133 which are for the IACV and A/F sensor respectively. I cleaned the IACV and TB with carb cleaner and replaced the sensor. my car still has a surging idle and it usually starts up after the car has warmed up and I give it some revs. I've read about how the neutral safety switch can throw codes and make the car run in limp mode if it's faulty so i'm gonna replace that next. If that doesn't fix it then i'm gonna turn to the ECU as the next culprit. I tore it apart and it didn't seem wet at all, but the outside casing had a little mud splatter on it when my carpet took a bath. Do you guys think a junkyard ECU would be okay to buy? I think thats what i'll end up doing cause money is tight since I've had to miss a few days of work. -Ryan
-
I think that switch is my next step in the diagnostic/part swapping process. so far i've directly addressed the two codes; I cleaned the IACV and throttlebody, replaced the A/F sensor and the surging still persists. I took apart my ECU and everything appeared to be clean and dry except the outside casing.. there was a little bit of mud splashed on the case indicating moisture. So the next step is the neutral switch and if that doesn't do it i'll swap my ecu with a junkyard one. from there if I can't fix it I feel like i'll have to take it to the dealership because I can't spend time and money guessing as it's my only car $$$$$$$$$$$ anyways thanks for the input and i'll let you know how it goes. -Ryan
