steering wheel center piece
scoutem replied to scoutem's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It's a 85 GL Wagon 4x4 2.8 liter -
Hello I am trying to get my center piece of my steering wheel back on. Problem is i can't get the clips to re-engage. Any tricks or ideas on how to get this back on? Thanks

So I have a 85 Sub GL wagonm I took the steering wheel off in order to replace the turn signal switch. So now for the life of me I can't get the center peice back on? It will look like it is clipped in but as soon as I cross RR tracks or some bumps off it comes? Any tricks to getting those clips to re-engage? Also is there newer models Suby's that I can take a wheel off of that will bolt right on? If I can't get this center peice to stay on I'm thinking of putting on a different style of wheel. Thanks for your knowledge.

Thanks for all your help and step by step instructions Gadberry (very helpful) I am/was hoping for a much simpler way. But you are correct it is a kinda important part of the car Taj I contacted you about your rims thanks. Has anyone seen any 6 lug adapted rims for sale on here? Sorry about the repost my computer was acting up/ not showing my post so I hit repost a few times

6 lug wheel on a 4 lug car? Safe?

So I also have been trying to nail down a set of Pug's. I have a set of 14 alloys on my car now. problem is 2 rims are kinda bent and now it is almost impossible to find any. So this 6 lug thing, is it just as simple as taking the hub off lining up two of the holes and then marking 2 others? Then of course just drilling and having tires balanced and mounted? I see several sets of 6 lug Toyota rims on C-List is this the way to go? Thanks for any help direction I plan on getting this done in time for some Holiday driving my front end shakes a little too much now:) -

Thanks again...the original post you felt to comment on about the "didn't make a brat in 99" was from BeachBM69 who doesn't have a Brat in his profile pic, also the in the picture it looks like what I thought is a back seat. I am getting ready to go hunt for some of those seats. So I was just trying to get HIM to clarify. I am new to this post stuff but FYI that is what I was trying to accomplish

Uh Thanks...I knew your post was from a Brat owner. The other guy just said 99 and he didn't look like he had a Brat.
-
What exactly are you saying? That seats from a 99 Escort fit the same? Or that those are seats out of an escort that fit into your 99?
-
Thanks...May give that a try if I can find a wreck STI or Legacy around here. those look sweet and thats one of the better looking Brats I have seen:)
-
Did you get these seats new from a store? Or pick them up used from someone? Looked online but haven't seen much.
-
How hard are these tabs to put in? Just a tack weld or?

Anyone out there had any luck in putting newer seats in a older 80's suby? I have a 85 wagon that runs great and i drive everywhere. But, the seats are really broken down. I wanted to put some legacy or ? seats in it but have been told it will take lots of modifications. Anyone had any luck?

Has anyone else had issue with their ignition breaking? Not the module, but the actual ignition where the key goes in? I took mine apart and now am starting it from the backside. Anyone can steal it now so I am trying to get it replaced, heres the question. As i look at the column all I see is a metal clamp type thing that holds whats left of the ignition on. How does this come off? Or does anyone know the best way to replace an ignition? Switch whole stearing column, a certain tool to remove clamp etc... Thanks
