  1. 1986 GL Wagon Stock carbureted ea82 For some reason the car is extremely hard to start, and once it is started, will not idle unless if throttle is added. Removing throttle will kill the engine soon if not immediately right after removal. Previous symptoms while car was being driven: engine missing at idle speed engine missing throughout rpm range while driving (mostly low rpm) engine randomly would die at idle while taking a right turn in neutral, engine would stall taking off from a stop or from a slow roll (shifting to 2nd around a corner) it would sometimes just fall flat on its face and chug very slowly as if it was about to die. feathering the throttle afterwards for a few seconds would then bring the rpm back up. Idle speed is set at about 1,100rpm (set there because it was not idling right and would die) timing is correct distributor is advanced to the end of its adjustment range, changing position doesn't do much if anything When starting the car, when the key is turned to the "on" position, I cannot hear the fuel pump priming itself or the relay/ controller clicking. On a Loyale that I own, when first turned to the "on" position I hear a clicking from a relay, and I hear the fuel pump priming from the rear of the car. This does not happen on the '86. Is it just that the two are designed differently? One is carbed, the other FI...
  2. It is a pin that holds the cylinder in, but it wont go in when I push on it. Does the cylinder have to be turned from the lock position for that pin to be able to retract? Or is it just being stubborn? The pin is flush with the cylinder, making it unable to be pulled out instead of pushing in.
  3. Sweet, I wasn't sure if that barrel cover came off or if it was a good idea to remove. Ill go mess with it now haha.
  4. But how do I go about taking the cylinder out? On other cars I have removed a keeper screw and had to turn the key a certain way and then pull. But here there is nothing similar to that. I guess another way is just to swap columns? But that seems like a pain.
  5. The time has finally come for the Ignition Lock to get stuck in my Brat. It was already in a state where the key could be removed in any position and while driving around. Currently it is stuck in the Run position, and can start the car, but will not turn back to shut the car off. Is it possible to remove this lock cylinder? I have a parts GL Brat with a good lock cylinder in it to swap out if so. 1985 Brat Gl (tilt column steering)
  6. My god, you could eat off of any part of this Brat. Clean! Seeing this gives me an idea of what mine looked like when it was new.
  7. Heres a recent picture of when we got a little dusting of snow. Also I have the Enkei 3F's on now, I like the way it ended up looking.
  8. I got bored with the looks of the wagon and decided that I would play around and lower this thing for a little while. This is a hybrid of stock ea82 front and rear struts with cheap Honda lowering springs. The front needed a coil cut on each side to look even. The original struts/springs are stored away for when I want to go back to stock ride height. The pugeots wouldn't fit with the massive tires on them, so wagon wheels are on for now. I'm planning on throwing my Enkei 3F mesh wheels on here soon. Here is how she looks after being all settled down. Please excuse the dirt lol there is construction happening on my street.
  9. Maybe I am wrong but they don't look as "sharp" as the ea82 style. Could we get a closer picture?
  10. "I have the four matching white rims, but the front wheel bearing was so bad the rim would catch on the brake caliper and the car wouldn't move. PO said the tranny was bad because only the rear wheels were engaging, but when I took the front wheel off to fix the bearing, I noticed there weren't any splines on the hub. Hopefully getting a hub from a member here and then it'll have dual range and fwd back!" Those are ea81 chassis wagon wheels. They do not fit over ea82 chassis brakes.
  11. All the dead pictures in the old posts have been revived. This Brat doesn't see the road very much these days, I try to keep all the miles on the daily. Over the summer on one of the few outings in the Brat there was a mishap. I was backed into by a box-truck. The impact bent my hood up, pushed the core support in, and broke the radiator. Also the driver's side running light was smashed along with the lowbeam headlight on that side. I extorted cash from the poor soul who awakened the fury within me, then went home and fixed the damage in one evening with all the spare parts I have. The core support was bent back out with some 2x4s, the hood was replaced, I purchased a new set of Sylvanias, and installed a spare running light. You wouldn't be able to tell anything happened if it were not for the hood being off a silver ea81. Here is a pic of the Sylvanias, nice and bright.
  12. This thing has been my amazing workhorse for over a year now. Not much has changed since it is my daily driver. The problems in the previous posts were vacuum leak related. It is still as underpowered as ever, but after warming up it does just fine. Here is a recent picture I took at work.
  13. Nice wagon! Care to elaborate on how you got it sitting that low? I have my Brat project on the back burner and I am aiming for it to be almost as low as your wagon.
  14. I know, I was drooling over your RX like always. I think he was just tired and ready to go home. Believe me, I love the new stuff just as much as the old if not more. But like you said they need to break down the category better. I had a good time regardless, and I'm sure my dad did as well. I had to convince him to bring the Brat out, hes very protective of his projects and always gets nervous taking them out of the comfort zone of the garage. He has a '66 Mustang Fastback with a real Shelby 350 in it, hasn't left the garage in years... Also I think he was disappointed when we got there because it was too late to register in the actual car show. I'm an enthusiast, so naturally I appreciate everything related to cars and the work people put into them. At the autocross I was rooting for cars that a lot of people were jeering, I was surprised at some of the hateful things people were saying about some contestants just because they weren't racing a Subaru. Oh, and you can add my dad to one of those that were over 50.
  15. Only downside of this show, its always been more geared for the newer generation. These were the only two that could possibly fit the "old" catagory, unless if they also counted that Outback you are talking about.
  16. Been a while since I have posted on here, but I am still actively driving my Subies. Had fun at the show today, and I took a small amount of photos. Others can feel free to add theirs as well. Waiting in line at the Fauntleroy ferry terminal. My dad's '82 DL Brat resto project and my daily '86 GL Wagon Dualrange. On the ferry, front and center. Please excuse my filthy windshield. Parked at the show.

  18. Depends on who is buying and how much they want to spend. I would say swap them onto your Brat, they would look good on there imo.

  20. Looks like a nice straight body! You found a good one, what is wrong with the wiring? Maybe it is something simple. Also, a belated welcome to the board. Lots of good info on here, make use of the search button. Do those chrome wheels have a little "J" emblem on one of the spokes? If they do they are Jackmans and are a desireable wheel by the oldschool subaru crowd.
  21. Ewww... Lol they might look good on a golf, but not an '80s Subaru. Fox if you decide to not go with Subaru wheels and do aftermarket, look at some Panasport 8 spokes or replicas.
  22. Was down just west of "The Commons" in Federal Way today and saw a white 2nd gen Brat roll by. It might have been lowered a little bit, and it had some wide crome wheels on it. Maybe you/they saw me? I was the red '86 wagon with the ski racks and RX lip.
  23. When you use adapter/spacers on EA hubs/drums do you have to mill the inner parts (of the hubs) flat first? I'm not sure what diameter these are inside in comparison to the oem wheel opening.
