  1. hi its been a while since i've posted i have a problem my A/C clutch. my ac compressor bearings were going out and i pulled another bearing pulley assembly of a Subaru at a junk yard and figured i could just replace the bearings with the ones from junkyard that were fine and i replaced it. but i have a problem my clutch keeps sliding inwards toward the A/c compressor and rubbing the pulley i have tried putting washers in there but it just wears through the washers. what do i have to do to fix the clutch or do i need to replace the whole compressor with clutches and all. and second question is it worth the time to track down genuine r12 and charge it with that or will freeze 12 and r134 work just fine. i have an evaporator so i can do it either way.
  2. the main cooling fan works for the first couple of heating and cooling cycles then will not work. i have plugged another fan into the car, tested the connections with a test light, nothing. the a/c fan turns on fine but is not enough to keep car cool. i have swapped all the relays (relays from another brat). replaced the temp sensor (the one on the radiator that turns the fans on). i am blown away, i am to the point of just wiring the main into the a/c fan circuit and just fixing it that way. right now I can't even go up the slightest hill with out it over heating. any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you
  3. the connector on the cooling fan looked corroded so i got some flat connectors at autozone and fixed the connection that way. i have replaced the radiator cap. temp looks normal (i also run the A/C) and yet it keeps running itself out of coolant? and i haven't overheated it yet but it starts climbing and i shut the car off imediatly. any ideas is there supposed to be a coolant resivior that coolant goes to? oh another thing when i bought the cap i had to buy one for a 1980 subaru brat. so any help is appreciated.
  4. i had replaced the oil pan gasket on my 1.8 thinking it would fix the leak on the front of the engine. but it still leaked at least 1/4 quart of oil a day. well went to idaho for 3 days and left brat on a drive way with a steep incline with the front pointing upwards for that time. start driving it and now it doesn't leak one drop of oil. just curious why it would stop.
  5. hey if it happens again replace you're battery terminals i had the exact same problem. I had terminals where they dumped hot solder in the hole then just stuck the wire in the hole. well there was a lot of corrosion deep inside the negative terminal that you couldn't even see. so i replaced it and it fixed it. oh and autozone claimed the battery was bad too.
  6. car-part.com you can search nation wide i know there are some around the range of 300 bucks. hope this helps. some yards will even ship to you.
  7. well got my drive shaft back from six states and installed it a couple of odd occurences happened. got the drive shaft in and bolted it on and tried to drive the car (brat was in 2 wheel drive) and was very resistant and almost wouldn't move. so i put the brat on 4 jack stands and put it in 4 wheel drive lo let out the clutch a little resistant and then it just started working. so i took it off the stands and drove just fine. any one have a similar experience.
  8. driveline is in the shop picking it up tomorrow so do i have a wrong gear ratio. it did come out of a subaru coupe?
  9. well i was driving with my friend and his android phone had an app in which he could read how fast he was going and we also timed it between mile posts and according to speedo going 65 it took 47 seconds to go one mile. thats 75 miles per hour.and i had a regular d/r 4speed in it did i get the wrong tranny?
  10. I got a 5 speed tranny out of a 1986 subaru coupe (xt i think) but i discovered the other day that according to the speedometer 0-45 the speedo needle read 5 miles per hour below. and then 55 on the speedo is 65. and 65 on the speedo is 75 and etc. did i get the wrong trannsmision? or is my speedo broken. thanks
  11. i would love to do the ej swap but are there any d/r trannys that would bolt up to it. what year of ej and tranny would i need.
  12. my car gets really hot around noonish when the sun is blaring through the t tops any body have any ideas on how to block the sun
  13. for all the expense and trouble to replace the boot you might as well replace entire axle autozone has for 60 dollars and boots will cost at least 40-50.
