  1. Passenger side rocker done... had to do a little re-shaping Starting on driver side tomorrow... Goal is to have the rockers done by Friday, the doors by the end of the weekend, pull the engine and have the hood and front clip finished by mid next week and have it ready for paint (putty and sanded) by 9/23.
  2. Thanks Jerry... had the paint guy over tonight to give me a little direction... working on having it ready for paint by mid September.
  3. Thanks... luckily I didn't get burned, I just patted myself out and kept grinding.
  4. Passenger side rocker Lots of rust and dirt... Volcanic ash and snow are a bad combo. Rust cut out... needed to rebuild the bottom of the rail Test fitting for shape... Rail fixed and treated... Welded in... Door's next... ...and this is where I set myself on fire... save your jokes (:
  5. Let me know if you need some pointers on the wheel well rust... I just finished my wheel wells (finally).
  6. 86 or 87... note the EA82s coupes parked to the left and the lack of jump seats in the BRATs.
  7. LOL... just logged on to post the same pic... 86 or 87 by the lack of jump seats.
  8. Found some rust on the frame in the wheel well so I have been grinding/cutting that out. Will be treating it tonight and weld it up tomorrow. Picking up more 18g today for the rockers, going to have the shop put in a few of the more difficult bends to save me a little time. Also picking up the final few engine bits to do the build. Hope to have the rockers in this weekend... more pics to come over the next few days.
  9. Before ... After... Finally feel like I'm getting some momentum...
  10. Before... The rust was worse then it looks... Rust cut out... After...lots of new metal, now just a little bit of wet sanding and I should be good.
  11. I use a cutting wheel on a grinder to get the weld down... then I use a grinding wheel to smooth it out and blend. If you don't have a grinder I recommend purchasing one... makes life waaaaaay easier.
  12. Cut out right rear rocker... Formed and fitted... welded in place...
  13. Finally done welding the wheel well... there was a lot to rebuild. Fitting a panel... Putty has to wait til this weekend whe I get back from trip to lower 48...
  14. Very sorry for you loss... losing someone suddenly is tough.
  15. Torn apart ready for prep. Por15 and welding in the wheel well... tough to make smooth welds it's pretty in close quarters. 27 years of mud and gravel required extra cutting. Rebuilding the inside wheel well before I can put on the outside sheet metal later this weekend.
  16. I don't know if they'll work... I bought rockers from MillSupply (great service and product BTW) to use on the BRAT and realized they were different enough to set them aside for when I redo my GL later next winter. I am rebuilding everything that need to be replaced on the BRAT from flat 18G... It's time consuming but it is turning out nice. BTW... I'm with you, when I'm done restoring this thing it will be driven during winter and taken care of. These things were poorly sealed originally and I am working to remedy this.
  17. Typical Ak summer... Have to stop one project (the Brat) to work on others (2 fishing trips, installing a super charger on my brother's truck, working on my boss's cabin... Etc) but I started on it again tonight and will be on most everyday for the foreseeable future. Pics to come this weekend. Here's some eye candy to hold you over... Ford 6.2l with a Whippel supercharger, 700 Crank HP.
  18. Found a NOS radiator support through the Subaru dealership... one less thing I have to rebuild:headbang:
  19. ^^^ Interior and engine pics or this build didn't happen:headbang:
  20. Been getting work down around the house the last week so not as much done this weekend. Lot's of rust due to mud and moisture getting kicked up behind the fuel filler pipe. Cleaned some engine parts... a nice break from the bodywork. I'll be getting back on the horse this evening.
  21. Welcome... What takes you to Healy? I usually get up that way a few times a year.
  22. Pulled the tank so I can safely weld on the passenger side of the bed. So easy and it even had a plug to drain the last little bit of gas:headbang:
