Lots of time:D. I bent the metal along the bottom edge in order to get the initial shape and then made 4 cuts vertically from the top down (making long narrow triangles) to where the fender well begins the bend (about 3"). Then its just a matter of slowly bending the tabs to create the arc at the top of the wheel well... Trimming as you go. Once I tacked it into place I welded up the cuts I made and then grinded the crap out of it. Lot's of test fitting and trimming. I'll post pics of the next panel during the process.

Took waaaay to long to pull the rear left shock... pulling the gas tank tomorrow so I can safely grind and weld the passenger side this week.

^^^great call... Will do!

Thanks Jerry. Worked in the bed tonight... rust before After poking and cutting... Floor was in great shape under the original carpet... I will be dropping the gas tank, grinding, cutting more and welding this weekend... more pics to come.

I had to go to a metal/fab shop to get mine, Lowes/Home Depot don't carry. 18g should be common at a fab shop.

No pics yet... probably a couple of weeks before I start reassembling the engine... need to stay focused on body work, trying to have it ready for paint by 2nd week of July at the latest. Awesome job on those rockers BTW.

Not bigger cams... just had mine reground. '85 and newer ea81 cams have more meat on them (hydrolic lifters) so are better candidates for a regrind according to Delta Cams. Sorry to hear about the tree... 40mph sounds like bad news.

Finally started... will be working through the weekend, more pics to come.

EA82T Studder/Cut Off
tundrabrat replied to tundrabrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
FIXED!!! I knocked out the cat but when that didn't fix it I got my head into the engine bay and noticed the coil wire was arcing. I replaced the wires, rotor and cap and she runs great now... Good as new. -
BOSS 2" EA82 Lift Kits- $100!!!
tundrabrat replied to The Beast I Drive's topic in Products for your Subaru
Crap... why do you tempt me when I am trying to finish my BRAT?!?!?! If I get my other issue fixed on my GL it sounds like I will be ordering these next week. -
Thanks, I just finished welding the rear quater last night and will get pics up this weekend of this week's work. Engine hot tank, torque grind on the cam (delta cams), heads ported and decked (DeMoss), new heavier spring, valves etc, pistons, rings... I'm into it for about $650.00. I will be upgrading to a weber kit, bearing and other bits and pieces I figure I will have it compeletly rebuild for around $1,200.00 (since I have to pay shipping for stuff) I'm doing the body work and mechanical, a friend of mine is shooting it for me and the interior is very clean. I need a new set of tires for my 14"s, the 4" lift (and all that goes into that) and a few odds and ends but my goal is to come in at $3,000.00... of course that doesn't include all the new tools:brow:

I have a crow bar with the cats name on it... I'll pull it apart this weekend. BTW, started welding on the BRAT last night:banana: -
That's what I'm using... It welds up to the original sheet metal well.

EA82T Studder/Cut Off
tundrabrat replied to tundrabrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Going to try qnd get a new egr solenoid. Lines look good, no rust, I cleaned the injectors with little change, I think I'll look at the fpr, fuel pump next. You brought up and I have reseacrch a clogged cat... my question is if I just knock that thing out will it throw a code or am I OK to knock it out? -
EA82T Studder/Cut Off
tundrabrat replied to tundrabrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks for all your input... I did the fuel injectors like you had originally suggested but I will check the knock control computer. The EGR Solenoid I pulled off the the brat only has two hoses and it does not have the vent. The one I got from you did have a vent but I couldn't use it due to the connection. The solenoid from the brat is a metal canister type versus the one from the 85 GL was plastic. This is true... Unfortunately I think it's a Gremlin... that's where he lives when he's not driving me crazy! -
EA82T Studder/Cut Off
tundrabrat replied to tundrabrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
From what I have read from GD the EGR does nothing to performance, working or not as long as it is a closed system. I made it over to Dwayne's yard yesterday (what a mess) and found a EA82T with the same solenoid you gave me (with the filter)... the difference between the solenoid you gave me and the one that came off of mine is that mine only has 2 wires, yours/and the one at the boneyard have 3 wires so it doesn't fit. So is it spark, air or fuel. We have spark, I think air is good which is why I'm stuck on fuel... especially since the car was off the road just being moved around for the last 15 years. Hope to get it figured out... -
EA82T Studder/Cut Off
tundrabrat replied to tundrabrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Cleaned all the injectors, runs a little better and starts without stepping on the gas but still have the same studder issue up to 3000rpm. Wondering fuel pump, regulator or MAF? Unless it gets worse I'm thinking about driving it until the Brat is done (a few more months) then just pull it off the road until I can EJ it. -
Whatcha need... I have an EA82T GL and I would be happy to take pictures of specifics that you are looking for.

The Awesome Older Generation Picture Thread
tundrabrat replied to 6 Star's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Is this in Okinawa? I had the same year only the awd, supercharged version when we lived there. -
Just coming up for air... Finished the two builds I was working on for different people (to help fund the BRAT build) and got side tracked with a GL10 I picked up to drive this Summer while I finish the build... but I'm finally back at it. I picked up a new welder (super stoked) and my decked and built heads, EA82 pistons, rings, oil pump, etc. came in last week. Pics and updates should be coming more fast and furious now... though not like theloyale's threads, that guy's a machine... and salmon start running in a couple of weeks.

EA82T Studder/Cut Off
tundrabrat replied to tundrabrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Replaced the... Fuel Filter CTS ALL Vaccum lines Cleaned the MAF The car sat for about a week while I worked on the wife's car and drove around in my 4runner. After a week of sitting it started up perfectly and drove great for the first 30 mins and then the problem started again. Same thing, between 1000 and 3000 rpm I get what feels like cut out (studder) but as long as I keep it in the higher ranges (above 3000 rpm) it pulls good. I will check injectors sometime this week. Let me know if you can think of anything else I should be looking at... I'll get this thing figure out! -
I'm doing mine in STI wrinkle finish red... I have to give a nod to the ej257.

I think I know the direction I'm going with the GL (: -
Bummer... I was hoping that was my studder issue.
