Where is the fuel filter under the car in a ea82 Turbo sedan... no, it is not under the plate by the fuel pump?!?! Thanks...
-
OK... the "studder/shudder" is back but I believe I can give a much better idea of symptoms. The car feels like the fuel is cutting out at lower RPMs (just getting started and cruising down the road) under 3000rpm. When I get on it (put my foot in it), it has plenty of power and no studder. As an example: driving through my neighbor hood in 1st and second gear under 25mph I get hesitation/power cuts out for a second or 2. When I'm running trough my gears and on the highway, no problems As I said, I believe it is a fuel issue but don't know where to start (filters, pump, lines, injectors) etc. Need Help on this...

My into doesn't work and when I turn off my wipers they don't return to home position. Is this a switch or motor issue?
-
It's the top part listed... mine is busted too. Easy to get to, cheap fix.

Good to know... are the front struts different between fwd and 4wd as well? On a seperate note, the studder/fuel cut off hasn't shown itself over the weekend...bad gas? Did I blow something through the filter? Did something dry out? Ugh, I hate not being able to identify what happened.

EA82T===>Why hate it?
tundrabrat replied to hillbillyhans's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That's what I'm counting on... the ea81 for my BRAT starts going together next week:banana: LOL... GD you are as subtle as a wrecking ball!!! Nightmare is exactly what I was thinking when I opened the hood but I love these sedans. If I can keep this thing from imploding for a year then I will be swapping in an EJ next summer. -

Really enjoying the right up. The ej257 gets off my bench and put in the car this weekend and then I get to start putting my ea81 back together... can't wait. -

I have a pretty low milage ea82t that I am using while I rebuild my brat and I plan to hold onto the ea82t for a while. I don't rev it much over 3500-4000... don't really feel I need to. Sounds like some people run them hard so that might be a contributing factor. Once the Brats back on the road I hope to use the ea82t when I need to take more than one other person with me and to do some ice racing next winter. -
This is an interesting theory, are the springs the same size?

I'll take a look at the top hats, maybe they put them in wrong when it was converted. I'm not trying to modify it or lower it per say, I just want a factory ride hight and this thing is REALLY high in back. This morning was the worst. I started it up and it grabbed 1200 rpm right away, I went inside to let it warm up and when I came out it had died. When I went to restart it, it would start up and die immediately. When I finally got it started (had to keep my foot on the gas) idled at 650 rpm until it warmed up. Then for the next 5 mins I would get gas cut out. This was the first day I had not plugged in the car overnight. It's not happening in boost. You may have something here... I just noticed that it doesn't have a fender liner. I'll go deep into it this weekend.

Cheapest route is to find a used engine locally and stick a webber on it. It's not exceptionally expensive to rebuild the engine (replace gaskets, etc) and then you can get the cam ground for higher torque or hp then add a weber carburator and open up the exhaust a little with larger diameter pipes... but there's only so much you can squeeze out of it. You can probably pick up a dual range 5spd locally for under $300.00 (84-87 I think). The more expensive and definitely more time consuming route is to go with an EJ engine which requires the instalation of a new wiring harness. Good Luck...

I figure it is easier to start a thread where people can offer advice instead of me creating a different thread everytime I have a quesiton or issue. NOTE: I will only post what I can't find after an extensive search. Two issues currently... 1) Engine cut off/Studder intermitantly. I have gotten severl good responses (from electrical to vacuum) but still having the issue. I think I just need to change fuel filters. 2) The air suspension was removed and swapped with the suspention of a later model wagon. I'm now dealing with major rake (the back has 4-5" of clearance, from 1-2). I have RX springs coming for the front, any recommendations on how to get the back down, I assume unlike my BRAT this isn't adjustable. Thanks... I'm sure I'll have more questions to come.

Couple pics from the local dealership... sorry that they're sideways. -
Unfortunately that hole is too big for bondo alone, even with screen as a backing. 1. Grind or cut the bad metal out. 2. Treat the rusty area with a type of rust killer. 3. Go to the local hardware store, buy some 18 or 20 gauge steel or aluminum and a rivet gun 4. Cut the metal to fit with a 1/2 inch over lap. 5. Drill. Holes through the metaland your panel (you may want to tape the patch in place while you drill. 6. Rivet the panel in place. 7. With a hammer tap around the perimeter to make a slight indention. 8. NOW you can add your bondo, sand, prime, paint. While I will always recommend welding first, this is a good long lasting repair that is an easy afternoon/day project... and it wont rattle out when you go over the first bump (:

5-speed swap flywheel+ clutch combos?
tundrabrat replied to Idasho's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm doing nearly the same drive train upgrade w/ myea81 and 5spd upgrade, except I went with the Delta cam grind and ea82 pistons. Idasho, your timing is perfect! -

EA82T Studder/Cut Off
tundrabrat replied to tundrabrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm thnking filter... It did it again this afternoon twice withing 1 mile and then no problem for the next 15 miles. When it cuts out there is literally nothing when you step on the gas for a second or two then it comes back to life. Oh well... I'll get it figured out. -
EA82T Studder/Cut Off
tundrabrat replied to tundrabrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I went through and cleaned several contacts with electrical cleaner, I sprayed around the vaccuum lines listening for any change in idle (nothing) and the car has been starting up no problem without the gas being depressed. I had not problems after lunch and I drove 4 or 5 small trips However, this morning it happened again once while making a left turn from a stop (accelerating from 1st to 2nd). No other problems the rest of my commute. The car had been warmed up and this happened after 10 mins of running. My plan is to finish cleaning all connections (as it has probably never been done). The MAF seems like it is connected well but I will pick up some cleaner today and take care it about this afternoon. I am concerned that my electrical fan isn't running but the weather has been so cool that the car has been fine. I will check thos connections this weekend... are there any tricks I should be aware of with these things? I'm happy with the car... just need to go over it so I don't get left on the side of the road with a simple problem. -

EA82T Studder/Cut Off

Coolant Temp Sender is an interesting idea... my temp gauge is all over the place. Sometimes it is on and is reading all over the place and other times it doesn't even register. I was thinking it must be my digital dash but now I need to check into it. Thanks, Ralph -
EA82T Studder/Cut Off
tundrabrat replied to tundrabrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sorry, I was all over the place with that description. 1.) Car starts up no problem first thing in the morning. 2.) After the car has started once I need to depress the accelerator to turn it over for the rest of the day... car idles fine once stared. 3.) Starting last week, (occasionally) under acceleration it feels like the gas just cuts out (shudder/studder) for a couple of seconds but after it does that a couple of times I don't have any additional problems during the drive. 4.) This afternoon the car started up just fine and then after 30 seconds (just sitting in the parking lot) it died... I turned the key and it started up again no problem. '85 GL EA82T, no mods I don't see a patern to this problem. What's a CTS? -
EA82T Studder/Cut Off
tundrabrat replied to tundrabrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The hose clamp seems tight but I will clean the sensor and check all vaccuum lines just in case. One other thing. First thing in the morning the car starts up without stepping on the gas but after it is warmed up, I usually have to give it gas when I go to start it again. Don't know if that helps, Ralph -
I am getting a studder under a moderate acceleration (like fuel starvation). I noticed it for the first time a week ago as I got on a circular on-ramp and for the first 100yds down the freeway then no problem. I assumed it was because of the banking turn. It occurred the second time on Saturday driving down my street (giong from 1st to 2nd), had not given it much warm up time. I let the car die and just restarted it, no other probelms. Yesterday was the 3rd occurance, similar situation as Saturday. Today I let the car warm up, drove up to my kids school, and was heading down the hill in 4th and it cut out again and it happened again at the bottom of the hill but I just left it in gear and it jumped itself. Need help on this, car runs great and I figure it is an easy fix but want to know where I should start... Fuel filters, Plug wires, Fuel pump, Coil, Fuel injector?!?! Your guys help would be appreciated!
