  1. When I bring the engine to more than 3,000 rpm I hear a noise that sounds almost exactly like a electric wood saw cutting into a piece of wood. The sound seems to be coming from below the car near the front. Could this be caused by a loose heat shield? If is their any easy way to tighten it or do I need to take it in to be welded.
  2. No problems that I have noticed. Sometimes it takes a little force but not often. My main problems are a loud chirp that goes away with any pressure on the clutch pedal and grinding noise when I press the clutch or in neutral at high rpm.
  3. Yeah thats the one. I have a 99 legacy outback. I was just wondering if thats what they were talking about when they said uneven clutch engagement was a symptom. Its kind of like the feeling you get when you try and pull off in second from a near stop.
  4. So I am replacing my clutch this saturday with the help a friend who owns a garage. I was wondering if I should buy the TO bearing repair sleeve thing since it is my TO bearing that is failing. I have noticed a lack of power in first immediately after releasing the clutch but this may just be in my mind/due to my lack of experience with a manual (learned in this car a few months ago). Other than that not really any noticeable vibrations. Is there any thing I could look for to hint that this may be the problem?
  5. So the Excedy KSB04 is the way to go? Just out of curiosity, what are the benefits of the more expensive clutches?
  6. So after posting previously my throwout bearing seems to be failing and was recommended that I replace the whole clutch instead of just replacing the bearing. I am pretty much a novice but I know a good mechanic who is going to work with me to change it. I was wondering what to look for when purchasing a clutch kit. I found an Excedy OEM clutch kit on amazon for around 150 but then noticed others that are priced up to 600 bucks. Is there any reason for me to purchase the more expensive clutches? Are there any other things I should buy that should be replaced at the same time? Thanks.
  7. Sorry, I have a 99 legacy outback. The sound goes away when I apply pressure to the flat metal piece on the top surrounding the metal cylinder. Edit: Pressure at 90 degrees to the cylinder so I am pushing the flat piece against the cylinder.
  8. Whenever I am sitting in my car with the clutch out I can hear a loud high pitched chirp coming from the engine. It goes away when I press the clutch down even an inch. I looked it up online and some said the problem was simply that the clutch was too loose and that if I tightened it a bit the noise should go away. I am pretty much a novice when it comes to cars but I found the source of the noise yesterday when replacing my KO sensor and was wondering if anyone could identify it. Link. When I pushed on this to stop it vibrating the chirp stopped.
  9. After getting new hoses installed I noticed coolant dripping under the car. After opening the hood I could see it bubbling out of this small plastic screw on the top left side (looking at the car) of the radiator. I can't find the name of this part and was wondering if anyone knew what it was and how to fix it. I included pictures in the following link. http://imgur.com/a/4qBEP
