  1. keepin it alive, just in case someone other than me wants to do some offroading soon. oy, being down here sucks.
  2. anything with a 6x140 pattern will work w/ redrilling.
  3. well, no one wants to hear it anyway. delete please, mods.
  4. was your horn always that weak? i dont know what i would do without one... traffic's a killer here. wonder if you could take a horn from one of those really old cars and hook it up. you know, the ones that go (aaarooooooogaaa), or get a horn that honks to a show tune. that'd get some laughs. who knows if it would pass, tho. id just swap horns with one of your other cars for inspection then swap it back, as previously suggested.
  5. a lot better of a conversion than that stupid 1.5' of truck bed in the back of the legacy (pic in the off-topic forum, i believe). i couldve used that rig for pulling my engine.
  6. air force academy's too cold for me... cali school is where its at. then again, 60 degrees is too cold for me. im a wimp when it comes to cold. cool that you got a mechanical background already, the only crap ive learned about cars so far is from this board, and of course, breaking my car and attempting to fix it. im the guy that's always askin dumb questions cuz i dont do my homework before i ask. (insert official welcome here) skeet
  7. ill be doing the same thing wit ma 8"x15" jeep rims. i think itll look gooood jutting out of the well a bit.
  8. i believe the same principles for hooking up offroad lights apply... if you keep the connection hot you can use it w/o having the car on. (my lights are hooked like so: light to switch to fuse to direct connect w/ battery + ground).
  9. i second the alternator. same thing happened in my dad's truck. a chevy silverado. replaced it a total of 3 times in the past 6 years.
  10. new to subaru? get used to the leakage. its easier to lift the engine rather than dropping that bulky tranny (hard to put back). making a lift is easy to do, ask around the board for help.
  11. i guessed an ea wagon as well, maybe im getting better at learning my roots...
  12. there are ways to lift the engine w/o having to use a cherry picker. as for help, i suggest you smooth-talk some people on the board near your area to help you with your clutch, and donate all the money you save on the clutch replacement to the board. take a board member to dinner and he/she'll im sure will help you. i would. (considering i knew how to do it myself)
  13. welcome to our humble forum. if you have any questions whatsoever, you can most likely answer them by searching for posts on the same subject using the 'search' tool. just for future reference. dunno about that rim schpiel, if those were around i woulda thought they would be more popular round these parts... the forum parts, that is. yes, its possible to drop an ej22 in an '85. a member named mudrat79 does them. see this thread: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=19341
  14. dang, i was just about to say that... more info: its on his cd called fake songs.
  15. you've already got the clutch, so ask some more clutch-specific auto shops if they will use the clutch you have and just perform the service. some shops wont do this for legal reasons, but chances are you will come across someone that is willing to do it for a lot cheaper than that. when they say $600+ they are including the price of a new clutch. ask as many places as you can, because there's always one shop out there that will do it dirt cheap since they know how to do it in under 6 hours. i am getting my 4wd clutch done (kit and service) for $471.54. not a cheap price, but compared to the other shops its nickels and dimes. good luck, skeet P.S. do it before winter, im not sure shops like working on clutches in the cold!
  16. out of curiosity, why do you want the stock tape deck? wouldnt a diff. head unit allow a better sound?
  17. does the dash light up? fuses working? definitely push ALL THE WAY down on the clutch, that got me too. nmi.
  18. heh, andy, wanna come to vegas? ill be shelling out $400 bucks to have some shop do it for me since i dont have time (or equip) to do it myself. one of those times i wish i lived in washington, dangit.
  19. woulda a 1" susp. lift in the back only screw anything up (besides the axles)? id do this purely for looks, since you cant do much with just a rear lift anyway (unless you offroaded backwards). 25" tires sound good. i dont know the width of the 15" wagoneer wheels that ill be getting, so if anyone knows of some 25" tires that fit those feel free to post some info. also, what is the metric form of 25" (ie 215/75/15 or something in that format) so i can look some tires up myself? gracias por la primero informacion.
  20. skeet's poor assessment (corrections must be made): turbos arent good for offroad. too high-maintenance for bumpy rides, i assume. if its got all that fancy schmancy crap (ie: moon roof, digidash) its a gl-10 i believe. correct me if im wrong, but dl's were scrap metal compared to those. the compression in only one cylinder doesnt matter much, as long as the compression matches up with the other cylinders. gl's came with d/r's, not push-buttons. i thought those came along in loyales...? ask him about the parts he replaced. i personally wouldnt go for over 800, and would aim for 700 if i could get away w/ it. ask him last time he replaced: axles timing belts fluids if it looks like it shouldnt be there, question it. just my .02, based on my prev. soob-buying adventures. good luck.
  21. prolly stated somewhere before, but im tired and lazy at the time. whats the biggest size tire you can go on 15"wheels w/o having to get any lift? i got no prob screwin w/ the fenders to make it fit, just dont wanna have to pay for axles every month or a lift kit since ill be quite strapped for cash in a while.
