Doing an alignment soon. Anyone know if I can use stock camber bolts from the front to align the rear wheels? Got a nice upgrade for my front seats. The original cloth ones are a little flat for some of the long bumpy trips we take. Found these on Craigslist last night. The guy didn't even know what they were from. So I'm going to be spending part of my afternoon swapping these in. Has all the power stuff for the drivers side, but seeing as I am going for lightweight for a smaller car, I'm thinking I'm just going to swap the Impreza mount over and keep them both manually adjusted.

Came to the right place! Write up a detailed description of how the car is behaving in the older generation section and you'll be getting good advice to bring the car up to speed pretty quickly. Nice looking car! You'll be in love with these old Subarus in no time.

Had this happen on my Impreza. Started slight but I started it up at work the one day and got shrieking from under the hood. Popped the hood, listened to where it was coming from. Pulled out my pocket knife. Cut the belt off. Problem solved. A/C hasn't worked in over a year and I'm not bothering to fix it anytime soon.

Possibly, but remember that if the coolant level was low you're going to have air in the system. How much coolant did it take to fill it back up? Did you fill the radiator or just the overflow? Have the heating/cooling issues been resolved with the fresh coolant? How far have you driven the car since? I've scared myself a few times smelling burning coolant after adding it due to whatever cooling issues but most of the time it's just because I spilled some coolant on the engine/exhaust somewhere and can smell it as it burns off. I wouldn't say head gasket yet. Play with it a little and see what happens. For a real diagnosis for a HG do a compression test.

You should be fine with a used one. Oil pumps are not a very common failure.

Have you topped off your coolant? Sometimes you'll get a small leak somewhere and your coolant will get low enough that the heat will start acting goofy. (usually accompanied by some varying temps for the engine as it gets starved for coolant and finally gets some. Other possibilities are some blockage in your radiator, heater core or one of the lines somewhere.

No difference in engine temp? Sometimes the heat starts getting goofy if you're running low on coolant, but you should notice your engine temperature rising and falling a bit. More likely would be blockage or gunked up heater core or lines. I forget the setup on these older subes, but there should be two hoses that run from engine to the dash and back again. I tested by unplugging both and running a garden hose through one. If water goes in one hose and out the other, it's not a blockage problem. If you can't get water through, you've got a block somewhere. Had this same problem on my old 83 Wagon. Never got around to fixing it as it was more of a mountain car anyway. -
Good to see this is still around. I was thinking you had sold it. Thing is going to be a beast with the EG33. No small task getting one in there. Looking forward to seeing the progress. Also nice to see that there are still some other lifted subes in the area.

Sounds like 1 of 2 things. A leak in your clutch line or a bad clutch master cylinder. Same principal as brakes. fluid pressure pushed your clutch. Lose the pressure and you lose the clutch. check your clutch master cylinder to see if there is fluid in it. Look for leaks under the car to see where it could be coming from. If the leak is somewhere in the line, you need a new line. If not, you're probably looking at a new clutch cylinder. Either way this is a fairly simple and inexpensive fix. (Sometimes a little messy though)

Also - Assuming its the MC, I've started shopping for one. Is this something that should come from Subaru. Not looking for top of the line (the thing has 300k plus) but something that won't fail on the road as my wife uses this car as a commuter during the week.

'nuff said. Oh wait, also has 4WD/AWD, great ground clearance, holds a ton of stuff, gets pretty good gas mileage and is super simple to work on.

For a 95 with 180k, why not save yourself some time and hassle and just replace the whole rear hub for around $30? Between u-pull-its and your local auto yards, I'm sure you can get one cheap. Then it's just a few big bolts and you're back on the road. Just my thoughts. Bearings aren't a super common failure so you'd probably be okay going used.

This part checked out okay. With the engine off, the pressure seems to build and stay there. All seems as it should. Here's where it's showing issues. Start the car, the pedal drops a few inches catches a bit of pressure but then slowly sinks almost all the way to the floor. You can pump pressure up again, but it sinks slowly. Basically, it's acting like it has a fluid leak, but hasn't lost a drop of fluid. Time for a new master cylinder?

I'd be surprised if internals were the cause. Manual trannys normally give you a good warning before just locking up like that. If all's well on the outside of the trans, I'd be looking for a bent clutch fork next.

So a question, My camber is off all the way around and I'm just starting to notice a bit of wear on the outside of my tires. Was the shop able to do your alignment with stock bolts or did you have to get aftermarket camber bolts? Mine doesn't have a body lift but I have the Forester strut/spring setup that should put the difference between body and suspension similar to yours. Sorry for the hijack, just saw that you had recently aligned a lift Impreza too.

Pretty common in the 2.5 engines of that year. there are some how-to threads on here somewhere. It's a pain but doesn't seem too bad. (Crossing fingers as I have yet to perform this fix) But 2 basic options. 1. Pull the motor and have plenty of space to work. 2. Don't pull the motor and swap it in the car in more cramped and awkward conditions. You'll probably get a variety of advice on which is the easier/better way to do the swap. But either way, I wouldn't be too scared of it. Seems pretty straightforward.

Work on both ends it seems. This car and this thread seem like a "passing of the torch" I'll try and keep this thread updated in a similar manner as Tom has done such a great job in documenting this car's progress. So as Tom finds out how to get the trans out of third, I've been getting started on preparations for when this car resides in my driveway. As winter storm Draco descended on the upper midwest yesterday, my brother and I found some time between some deep dish pizza and a Christmas party to go pick up these. Set of 8 spoke Toyota Land Cruiser 6 lug steels. These came from a restoration project of a very nice looking FJ40. They are 15x7 and I think they match the 80s Subaru era pretty well. The plan is to re-drill the steels and stick with the 4 lug application. (Seems far simpler than converting the hubs to a 6 lug.) These steels are in excellent condition. I'll have to get some better pics after they see a nice bath. Thinking this car will see some lift in the not too distant future. That and these 15 inch steels should have the car ready for some tires in the neighborhood of 215/225/235 75 tires. Got more reading to do on the lifts, but the EA81s look great with them and the lifestyle of my vehicles is usually one that included some trail time.

There's a lot of Subaru contained in that greenhouse. Keep with the project. Those are some nice cars you've got there. Projects get long and tedious sometimes but they are so worth it in the end.
