  1. I'm intrigued. you been there before? What's to expect? And better that I bring a the lifted Impreza or my 87 toyota pickup?
  2. Sure. I've got some angle iron and stuff we can play with. I wanna make a new bumper for the adventure car. The rear bumper on my Toyota pickup is trashed as well so I've been thinking of fabbing a new one for it as well.
  3. To my knowledge they came stock with drum brakes in the rear. Calipers usually came from an XT6
  4. Yeah, I'd just cut and weld a couple quick links to it. Next car I sell is paying for a new welder. If that's the case, I probably have all the stuff for it if you came down. I'll be spending a little time on the truck in the next few days as well.
  5. They should be the same between first and second generation. You might need to swap the rear tophats if they were the same as an impreza, but it's a simple process.
  6. Looks like it gave you a few inches. Now for some meaty tires.
  7. This is a "new" Tom. I sold him a set of struts/springs a few days ago. I guess he bumped into Keaton that same day and got some wisdom for lifting his 95 wagon. I think he just joined the board a few days ago. So Wisconsin will have another lifted Sube in the near future. 6 inch lifted Baja would be sweet. I keep waiting to see something crazy in Madison. Every time I go up there I see Subaru's all over the place.
  8. Welcome to the board! you'll find more helpful people on this board than anywhere else. Post up in the Older generation forum and list your subaru's symptoms and I'm sure you'll be well on the way to the solution.
  9. TOM! Welcome to the board! yeah, post up pics as things progress. Probably in the member rides, or Off Road section. (I upload them to PhotoBucket) Lemme know if you hit any snags or need any hep with those rear struts. They were a bit of a pain when I put them under the impreza.
  10. Heard you met up with Tom and are lifting his Legacy with my strut/spring set. We should get all 3 subes together after he's lifted and get some mud on the tires.
  11. x2... My car should head over there as well.
  12. Might be worth checking and getting a report from the PA guys. Parts at E-Z pull and Save in New Ringgold PA usually has a few old Subarus and they are super cheap as auto yards go. Bring your tools and a shopping list and get that beast back on the road. Looks great! These cars are great road trip vehicles. I put so many miles on my subarus.
  13. I nearly bought and repaired this car when it was $500. and in Indiana a few months ago. I was second in line. Looks like first in line is in over his head and trying to make some $$$ in the process. Rust yes, but some creative welding would bring it back.
  14. Did I see this on Ebay somewhere in Ohio? There was a tan GL similar to this one not that long ago. Looks great by the way. Love the look of this car!
  15. Looks good! You upgrading the tires now that you have more clearance? Looks like plenty of space inside those fenders.
  16. Searching rads and it's saying there's a difference between radiators between manual and auto radiators. What's the difference and how hard would it be to put a manual rad into an automatic car?
  17. I'm putting some spacers in on the 2000 Outback and want some longer bolts on the strut tops. Do I just whale on them with a hammer until they come out or do I need to drill them out somehow? Seems simple, but I searched through here and off road section and haven't seen an answer.
  18. It's an easy modification. You can add some extra lift by adding 3/8 or more strut top spacers. I did this lift on my Impreza. Maximum height is forester springs and struts. I used a set from a 99 Forester and 3/8 spacers and gained 3 1/2 inches of lift before getting larger tires in there. If you're doing the lift, a set of Outback trailing arm brackets will correct the angle. there's a great sticky in the off road section for the "how to lift your Impreza" but all the info is about the same on the legacy.
  19. Probably an Off Road section thread. You planning on running in the Baja? Or just for fun? My brother and I have been kicking the idea of a baja 500 Subaru around for the last year.
  20. Hadn't heard on the driveshaft, but I think it requires some fab work. I lived in PA most of life. Used to go wheeling my Toyota all over the coal region. We traveled out to Cameron County for some time in the mountains. Trip pics. Rear brake line busted in Akron Ohio on the way out. We left around 7 pm after work. Brake light came on, pedal got squishy. Had to use the e-brake to limp into a Napa Auto parts. My girlfriend helped me do a hasty bleed on the line since i didn't have a wrench to open the bleeder screw on the wheel cylinder. Threaded the line in finger tight and had her stomp the pedal, then thightened it down while it was still squirting. Worked like a charm! Whole thing cost us about 20 minutes (not including a breakfast stop at Bob Evans) And cost me a whopping... Wildlife was all over. We saw 4 bull elk, 7 deer and a bear the first evening. As well as a few critters. Got out on the logging trails for some fun on the second evening. Went through a huge T-storm on the return trip. Sunset over Ohio on the way home. Got home tired, but relaxed around 1 am. Great trip all around. Put a nice dent in the rocker panel and nearly got stuck in a muddy field. Dual range would be nice but for trail rides, the AWD does just fine. Put about 2100 miles on the car in 5 days.
  21. I'm thinking about a dual range swap myself. Nearly got stuck during a trip to Pennsylvania over memorial day. (Mud - low range would have been nice) pics soon to come. But yes, with just a strut/spring swap i don't think spacers are necessary. If I put about an inch more on such as a larger strut top spacers, I'd probably add the body spacers. As is, i don't want to sacrifice the ground clearance.
  22. What sort of ground clearance are you getting now? Thing looks pretty good! Is there a mod list somewhere?
  23. Shifter slop is a pretty easy fix. Run a search on it in here, there's plenty of info. Let me know if you can't find the info, I can explain how to fix it with a hacksaw, a drill, a bolt, a nut and two locking washers. zzz
