yeah. Looks like I'll lose some power. But I'd like to get this thing on the road for the time being. I'll stay in the market for an EJ22 and swap that over if I feel it's better. Then I can just sell the EJ18. I know johnceggleston and grossgary have done the swap before. Hopefully one of them will chime in.

So glad that someone on here bought this car. I kept coming back to it on Craigslist and cringing at the thought of this going to the crusher.

Browsing Craigslist and stumbled upon a 91 Legacy about 10 miles down the road. The motor was bad but everything else was said to be decent. Asking price was $700. since the PO had just bought brand new tires for the car. I inquired about lowering the price if he could keep his rims and tires. Long story short, I paid $300, put my 15 inch rims and tires from my pre-lift Impreza on it and dragged it home. I mean, holy cow! The interior is flawless!:banana:the outside is realistically the best i could expect for a Wisconsin car. it's lost the bottom of the front fenders and has some flaking/bubbling on the wheel wells. The underside was rust proofed and has only minimal surface rust anywhere. I don't think the spare was ever removed. the guy I bought it from got it from an old lady in Milwaukee about a year ago. it really is a little old lady car. 109k with an automatic trans. So the motor... Anybody seen this happen before? It has a hole right through the block! Anyway, in the market for a good used motor - cheap. I don't think the car needs anything else. For now, my friend is driving a rattle trap impreza, so she and I might be working out a trade. What sort of engines should I be looking for? EJ22 from 90-94 legacy. Any modification required to use Impreza EJ22 or EJ18?

yeah, still got em. they are 3/8 inch HDPE. It's as high as you can go without changing your tophat bolts. $45. shipped. I used this same spacer set up with forester struts and springs anf got maybe 3 1/2 inches of lift before I changed tires. Outbacks are just a little shorter than Foresters so i'd say you'll be around 3-3 1/4 inches if you used spacers. Subatract 3/8 without. (remember you'll need spacers of 1/4 inch or more unless you're swapping your tophats onto the outback struts.) My car handles great and is still perfect on or off road. It accelerates a little slower and gas mileage has dropped since the lift. But there doesn't seem to be any driveability lost on swapping springs/struts etc. on these. Body lifts maybe. Monstaru has one. I know SJR did one. Not sure at what point these things ever start to become more of an off roader than a multi purpose vehicle.

I got a set that I'll be putting up for sale in the next day or so. pm me if you're interested.

Thinking about trans-x anyway. Seems to do good things for Subarus. I used this to correct the delayed forward engagement on the old trans. Pretty sure the fluid I've got meets the standard. I'll double check to be sure. Where would the kick down solenoid be? I have a spare trans so it might be worth swapping to see if that makes a difference.

In a word... yes. I compared a set at a junkyard just to be sure. 96 and 97 - they looked identical to me.

new(ish) 4EAT in a 2000 Outback. Fluids were changed and are new. between gears it seems to lag on occasion (usually on light inclines). RPMS don't really rise, car doesn't accelerate much or want to shift. Once it shifts, it's fine. Doesn't seem to be slipping. Just lazy on the shift. I'm new with automatics. Any thoughts on this?

Ditto to the come along. I've done this before on a mazda and a ford probe with similar damage. You can do some nice shaping with a sledge hamme, crowbar and a 20 lb dumbbell as well. post up a pic. What year is the car. You can probably shop around on http://www.mypartshop.com etc. and find a good used hood in the same color. Subaru wasn't super varied when it came to colors, so you can usually find one to match if you hunt around. If it's not that bad, just use your dented one until you find your match. Hunt craigslist for parts or cars being parted. Stuff usually shows up.
