95 legacy wagon ej22 ok so my question is this. what should my voltmeter read when idling with no accessories running? and what about with engine sittin @ 2k rpm. voltage doesnt change for anything except when load is applied then it drops. heres what i know: it usually reads about 13.2 cooling fans on with H/L on: 12.4 headlights on: about 13.1 blower on full blast with H/L on : 12.5 with brakes on n H/L on with turn signal going :11.8-12.2 (goes up when blinker clicks off but down again when the light clicks back on) i also stress tested it with my stereo LOUD, H/L on, brakes held, blower on high, and blinker on. n got around 11.3 had the alternator bench tested and put out 100a faithfully also i have 2 batteries on an isolator BUT it was like this before i did that. i have sanded down all the grounds i could find under the hood to bare metal. i have also done "the big 3" (8 awg from neg. battery terminal to body, 8awg wire from body to engine block, and 8 awg from alt charging post to isolator) any thoughts? i know there is going to be a lower voltage on the front battery from resistance but i have never ever seen above 13.4-13.5 from this car. even with the rpm @ about 2k. thanks guys! -jarrid

i found those already and did the test with a dmm and havent found the wire yet...... thanks though! does anyone know by any chance if those pinouts in the second or third link are the same as my 95 4eat? maybe i am testing wrong or maybe my dmm isnt doing so well.....ive seen smoke from it before....but it still works for resistance LOL. anyways thanks in advance!!! -jarrid

i give props on a custom setup like this but like gd and others have said..... ej20 would be more cost effective..... im wondering how long this will take before something blows up. And if it doesnt blow up rather quickly than i will be VERY impressed. just seems like a lot of time and effort on a WAY outdated engine. anyways though everything looks sweet! wish i had some skill like that. -jarrid p.s. i 2nd what gd says about testing between mods..... seems to be the best thing to do but hey! *to each their own* keep up the nice work! ill be watchin this thread now

to be honest i would go get a new one....they are a dime a dozen..... especially with that many miles on it....its alot for the 4eat tranny. not saying i wouldnt trust it for a 800 mile trip because i would....just make sure all fluids are topped up and i would use a tranny fluid cocktail..... alot of people know about whats in it....i do not as i only have 116000 miles on mine and dont hafta do it yet.... good luck -jarrid

the blower problem i have had also....replaced everything and still didnt work.....wired up a switch (30amp) and some wire to it (also rated for 30 amps) and called it a day. i couldnt figure it out but it has something to do with the ignition circuit on these years. i have a 95 leg ls wagon also 2.2 auto though. good luck! also for the 1st legacy..... have you checked to make sure your fuel pump can keep up pressure in the line? -
i have a 95 lego 4eat ej22 i need the extension housing gasket as its leaking VERY badly....like a quart every other day..... is this the right one? anyone know where i could order one online? i dont have enough time to go to the dealership to order as i get out of work the same time they close....and they are not open weekends which i have off..... makes this very difficult. http://www.wittrans.com/showfilter.aspx?Category=763&Section=153 the second from the bottom....paper. and would the metal fit? or would there be problems with clearance or sealing? i would rather put on metal if i could but if paper is the only thing that will work than so be it. any help appreciated! thanks jarrid

ouch.....that sucks! looks alot better than it did before! good luck -jarrid -
ouch..... maybe me n him will go take a look at it soon and see if its worth it or not..... but from what your sayin-unless its a timing belt failure with bent valves then its not worth it . valves i can do, timing belt i can do....but i dont wanna mess with the whole block.....yes itd be fun and i can do it....i just dont want to lol thanks guys jarrid

my buddy wants to buy a 99 forester with 170k on it. for $300. guy thinks it threw a rod BUT it still turns over and theres no hole in the block.....does it sound like a timing belt thing? his daughter was driving it n it broke down and thats what his "mechanic" told him. from what he tells me i would put money that its a timing issue. also did this year come with sohc also? i know its a 2.5 but usually the ones i see are dohc and im hoping its not so i dont hafta replace valves (if thats whats wrong with it)....n yea i gotta do all the work on it. My pleasure of course but im gettin paid so i dont mind thanks -jarrid

also i believe to get to the whole length of shifter cable alot has to come out to get to the bottom of the shifter..... like the exhaust, heatshields, and driveshaft. at least on my 95 legacy its like that....had a problem similar to yours but mine wouldnt go anywhere past 2. would go in 1 and 2 but that was it....turns out the parking pin spring got chewed up by the transmission and jammed the mechanism so bad i had to force it with a wrench where the cable connects to the transmission.....it was stuck in my driveway and wouldnt start and i had to go somewhere lol good luck! -jarrid

General Subaru noob dumb questions
95legwagon replied to PadreScout's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
my 2 cents lol. listen to gd he is VERY knowledgable in subarus in general. and also i own a 95 legacy and i absolutly love it! but you HAVE to understand 2 things: Take car of it and it WILL take care of you. And 2: once you own a subaru the possibilities are endless and you will find yourself wanting more n more stuff done to it...... ive had mine for a year now and it has the ej22 engine which is a great engine dont get me wrong but i want an ej22T (which is the turbo engine) i have a speed and torque fancy i havent quite fulfilled yet with any car ive owned BUT ive also blown head gaskets and trannys on many a car and i tell you what- these ej22's can take a beating for sure! definitly a great engine by far and imo they are the best engine subaru ever built. i am just in need of a lil more power so i want a turbo ok im done now hope this helps -Jarrid
